First, a Symbios 53C896 with PCI IC 1000:000b does NOT work on my PC164 board with SRM 5.5-1 (latest, I believe). I found this odd, since the Symbios 53C895 is listed as working (PCI IC 1000:000c). Second, the AlphaStation 200 also came in a 100MHZ flavor, despite what its web page says: http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/workstations/retired/a200series.html BUT, if you look at the "Golden Egg" doc, it's there: http://h18002.www1.hp.com/info/GEB201/GEB201PF.PDF I am gathering parts for a PC164SX board as well, and will update you with anything interesting I find. My Alpha collection has page on my site, if you're interested: http://www.numlock.net/toys/computers/specs/alpha-specs.html I am a Linux guy, but your hardware info for the Alpha is second to none, so I thought I'd pitch in. I have a decent amount of hardware, so if there's any combinations you'd like me to try, or anything else I can do, I'd be happy to help. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. Yes, that would be better than trying to (re)start all interfaces. It's what I'm using to start/stop only the wireless interface too and it works fine :) As for where this should go, I can always help make it a section of the Handbook. It can fit very nicely after the "PPP and SLIP" part of "Network Communication". This is not a bug in the manpage. It may be preferrable to use one of the two in some cases, but that's definitely not something that we have to document as "The One True Way" of generating patches. Although usually harmless, I think the messages could/should be documented in the xl manpage >How-To-Repeat: Give network adapter using the xl(4) driver some workload >Fix: There might be some other underlying technical snags with this one (I guess if these messages appear constantly and tx treshold goes over some value the adapter is broken...), but I'd suggest the following: Add another entry under diagnostics (maybe as the last one): xl%d: transmission error: 90 xl%d: tx underrun, increasing tx start threshold to xxx bytes This message may appear while the adapter tunes it's transmission buffers under load. If these messages won't appear constantly but only soon after reboot, or during heavy network load spikes, they can be probably ignored. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From I was tried creating RAID1 software array with this page http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/geom-mirror.html and when I went to second step "# geom load", geom_mirror.ko donīt initialized. I was found the correction via Google with replacing command "# geom load" to "# gmirror load". Next steps was without any complications and my first software array working perfectly. Watch on in and if this really bug, correct it, please. I am using FreeBSD 6.0 for i386 plaform, clean expert quick install. Following this sequence FreeBSD/i386 Platform -> FreeBSD/i386 Hardware Notes gets you to the hardware notes for 6.0-RELEASE, located at http://www.freebsd.org/releases/6.0R/hardware-i386.html While I realize you can get to the 5.4-RELEASE notes by replacing "6.0R" with "5.4R" in that URL, it's not exactly intuitive. Would you please consider making the link to hardware notes for the various releases somewhat more conspicuous? I think it used to be (before the web page got restyled). Including it in the "Hardware Support" section of "FreeBSD/i386 5.4-RELEASE Release Notes" is probably entirely appropriate. (I've already verified that no link to the hardware notes exists in the release notes.) So, assuming I didn't overlook the obvious... thanks in advance for fixing this! -- Alan Amesbury University of Minnesota From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 5 02:30:17 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D1CB116A41F for ; Sat, 5 Nov 2005 02:30:17 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1C6DB43D45 for ; Sat, 5 Nov 2005 02:30:17 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id jA52UGKm062808 for ; Sat, 5 Nov 2005 02:30:16 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id jA52UGTp062804; Sat, 5 Nov 2005 02:30:16 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sat, 5 Nov 2005 02:30:16 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200511050230.jA52UGTp062804@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Ivan Voras Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9F74616A41F for ; Sat, 5 Nov 2005 02:21:57 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ivoras@agricola.home.net) Received: from agricola.home.net (sdgate2.cvjetno.sczg.hr [193.198.8.211]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0272B43D46 for ; Sat, 5 Nov 2005 02:21:56 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ivoras@agricola.home.net) Received: from agricola.home.net (localhost.home.net [127.0.0.1]) by agricola.home.net (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id jA52LvO3079856 for ; Sat, 5 Nov 2005 03:21:57 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from ivoras@agricola.home.net) Received: (from ivoras@localhost) by agricola.home.net (8.13.4/8.13.3/Submit) id jA52LvgN079855; Sat, 5 Nov 2005 03:21:57 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from ivoras) Message-Id: <200511050221.jA52LvgN079855@agricola.home.net> Date: Sat, 5 Nov 2005 03:21:57 +0100 (CET) From: Ivan Voras To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.113 Cc: Subject: docs/88512: mount_ext2fs man page has no details on large file and journaling support X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Ivan Voras List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 05 Nov 2005 02:30:18 -0000 >Number: 88512 >Category: docs >Synopsis: mount_ext2fs man page has no details on large file and journaling support >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-doc >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: doc-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sat Nov 05 02:30:16 GMT 2005 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Ivan Voras >Release: FreeBSD 6.0-RC1 i386 >Organization: >Environment: System: FreeBSD agricola 6.0-RC1 FreeBSD 6.0-RC1 #9: Wed Oct 12 23:21:24 CEST 2005 ivoras@agricola:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/AGRICOLA i386 >Description: mount_ext2fs(8) is not informative and doesn't mention issues with large file and journaling support. >How-To-Repeat: man mount_ext2fs >Fix: --- mount_ext2fs.8_old Mon Oct 31 20:43:17 2005 +++ mount_ext2fs.8 Mon Oct 31 20:56:45 2005 @@ -60,6 +60,21 @@ .Xr mount 8 man page for possible options and their meanings. .El +.Sh BUGS +Unlike the original Linux implementation, the "large_file" +flag is not set automatically when first file larger than +2GB is created.
