As you said, the card my be emulating something with a much larger fifo. Have a look at this one: http://configure.sh/FreeBSD/serial.html This patch supports high speed serial "boards", but it might work with pcmcia serial devices as well. It supports baud rates up to 921600bps, which is what I am currently seeing com5 set up as in Windows after I updated the driver. Is it any limitations in how fast a pcmcia serial card can be set up? regards, Espen From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Apr 3 13:17:15 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5FA7F16A4CE for ; Sun, 3 Apr 2005 13:17:15 +0000 (GMT) Received: from ni-mail2.dna.utvinternet.net (mail2.u.tv [194.46.8.26]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1FDDE43D31 for ; Sun, 3 Apr 2005 13:17:14 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from aidanwhyte@eircom.net) Received: from moriarty (unverified [194.46.72.142]) by ni-mail2.dna.utvinternet.net for ; Sun, 3 Apr 2005 14:17:12 +0100 Message-ID: <01b601c5384f$7b6efbd0$2201040a@moriarty> From: "Aidan Whyte" To: References: <001d01c537ca$251790b0$2201040a@moriarty><200504022019.22370.asstec@matik.com.br><00f301c537eb$2ab03380$2201040a@moriarty><200504022345.30641.asstec@matik.com.br> <021c01c537f7$fb114530$2201040a@moriarty> Date: Sun, 3 Apr 2005 14:17:26 +0100 X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2527 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2527 X-RFC2646: Format=Flowed; Response Subject: Re: 802.11b poor transfer rates X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 03 Apr 2005 13:17:15 -0000 I've brought my sources up to 5.4-PreRelease and the problem still persists, so it must be some sort of configuration problem on my end.. but I can't see what.. :o/ Aidan From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Apr 3 13:42:34 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9779C16A4CE for ; Sun, 3 Apr 2005 13:42:34 +0000 (GMT) Received: from [212.112.40.199] (212-112-40-199.lidnet.net [212.112.40.199]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id D2F0443D49 for ; Sun, 3 Apr 2005 13:42:32 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from pkg@absaroka.eryn-lasgalen.org) Received: (qmail 43446 invoked by uid 1000); 3 Apr 2005 13:42:53 -0000 Date: Sun, 3 Apr 2005 15:42:53 +0200 From: Par Leijonhufvud To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20050403134253.GB43220@absaroka.eryn-lasgalen.org> References: <20050401102824.46249.qmail@web60004.mail.yahoo.com> <424E2D0B.9060909@pacific.net.sg> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit In-Reply-To: <424E2D0B.9060909@pacific.net.sg> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.5.1i Subject: Re: What to buy? I checked just before doing the deed too. My question is... has anyone with a dell i8600 tried it? With 5.3 or 5.4 or even 6? Does it work? Can I go back to my favorite os now? For those who were unaware, on a dell i8600 with nvidia FX Go5200 and the nvidia driver the whole machine would lockup when starting X, you couldn't ssh in or anything, the only thing possible was to power off. Anyone has a favorite card that supports 11b and g ? I'm having great experiences with a D-LINK DWL-G650 rev. B2, and a NetGEAR WG511T rev. C. These are Atheros-based cards, supporting 802.11b and 802.11g, along with the Atheros SuperG mode (108 Mbps). Works okay with WEP under FreeBSD 5.3, and with WPA under FreeBSD 6-CURRENT. In general, the Atheros cards work best with FreeBSD 6-CURRENT. -- Freddie Cash, CLCP CNCP Network Support / Helpdesk School District 73 (250) 377-4357 fcash-ml@sd73.bc.ca From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Apr 9 23:57:34 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0751216A4CE for ; Sat, 9 Apr 2005 23:57:34 +0000 (GMT) Received: from lilly.hosthenge.com (lilly.hosthenge.com [66.201.42.200]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BE29343D41 for ; Sat, 9 Apr 2005 23:57:31 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ben@flyingwalrus.net) Received: from localhost (lilly [66.201.42.200]) by lilly.hosthenge.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 920688A155 for ; Sat, 9 Apr 2005 16:57:29 -0700 (PDT) Received: from lilly.hosthenge.com ([66.201.42.200]) by localhost (lilly.hosthenge.com [66.201.42.200]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 01212-03 for ; Sat, 9 Apr 2005 16:57:28 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [192.168.0.5] (dsl092-013-171.sfo1.dsl.speakeasy.net [66.92.13.171]) by lilly.hosthenge.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 696B28A154 for ; Sat, 9 Apr 2005 16:57:28 -0700 (PDT) From: Ben Calvert Organization: Flying Walrus Communications To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Date: Sat, 9 Apr 2005 16:57:22 -0700 User-Agent: KMail/1.8 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200504091657.22330.ben@flyingwalrus.net> X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at mailhenge.com Subject: help with ndis and ipw2100 under 5-STAB LE X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 09 Apr 2005 23:57:34 -0000 sorry if this has been covered, i haven't found any definiitive answers in any of the archives or on google: am trying to get my ipw2100 card working under ndis with 5-STABLE*. have successfully set up the ndis and if_ndis module with the inf and sys file from dell, but i consistantly get the following output from ifconfig : ndis0: flags=8802 mtu 1500 ether 00:04:23:53:53:5e media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect status: no carrier ssid "" channel -1 authmode OPEN powersavemode OFF powersavesleep 100 rtsthreshold 2312 protmode CTS wepmode OFF weptxkey 1 I suspect that i'm somehow not getting the firmware to load. strangely, i don't see any messages about trying to load the firmware, whether i do manually from the console or from loader.conf... so i don't really know which file is the firmware file. can someone who's done this successfully help me out ? thanks.
