Since natd(8) is userland application it has performance penalty when it is used on busy networks or slow machines. You would get better results with pf(4) since all NAT operations are performed in kernel. > >Fix: > i think is a drive problem for realtek card on sparc64 server...i dont know how fix. I did some searching and saw a suggestion of using boot cdrom /boot/kernel/kernel in prom and when I did that it comes back and says the file wasn't found. I tried using the bootonly.iso and am having the same issues. I'm running out of ideas and would appriciate any help on getting the install going. Surely, so why is it happening and how can it be fixed? :) jhb suspected there might be unserialized access to the time counter on sparc64. This doesn't explain the i386 problems, but they could be related to other recent commits. Note that the only problems I've seen so far are on SMP machines. The problem turns out to be a mis-compiled /usr/share/misc/magic.mgc. If you remove it (it is only used for runtime optimization), file(1) works fine. If you recreate it natively using file -C, it also works. AFAIK, the underlying reason hasn't been tracked down. See below. Figuring this out will come behind testing Opteron dual-core support and updating compat.4x libs for 5.4-RELEASE. I am willing to email the file(1) author and report that something changed such that a cross-endian+cross-bitness produced magic.mgc broke, and hope that might turn on a light-bulb for him. In the "last word on the issue" from the TRB i386# make TARGET_ARCH=sparc64 buildworld i386# make TARGET_ARCH=sparc64 DESTDIR=/host/sparc64 installworld is in the Provisionally Supported category. Defined as: These are areas that are optionally supported. Developers aren't necessarily required to test these areas, but are required to make their best efforts to not unduly disrupt this support. This support is contingent on one or more developers taking an active role in keeping it current. Failure to do so will relegate things to unsupported. -- -- David (obrien@FreeBSD.org) From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Feb 16 12:01:58 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A147516A4CF for ; Wed, 16 Feb 2005 12:01:58 +0000 (GMT) Received: from stanislas.symacx.com (ocherrier.net1.nerim.net [213.41.162.220]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E47A543D3F for ; Wed, 16 Feb 2005 12:01:56 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from oc@symacx.com) Received: from [192.168.77.8] (napoleon.symacx.com [192.168.77.8]) by stanislas.symacx.com (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id j1GC09hm002389 for ; Wed, 16 Feb 2005 13:00:09 +0100 (CET) Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v619.2) In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Message-Id: <86a92e307b2dd4a18e91120078ad0f11@symacx.com> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Olivier Cherrier Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2005 13:00:34 +0100 To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.619.2) Subject: Re: Onboard SCSI controller support on Ultra 2 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2005 12:01:58 -0000 Hello, > by now you may already have installed -- successfully! I just did the MFC. Btw., the 3500/4500 are still mentioned as having no support for their Sbus-based SCSI (fibrechannel) controller. ISTR someone recently wrote the SCSI controller does work though, can I take this for granted and update the file as well? The QFE actually *is* a quad HME card, that's why FreeBSD uses the same driver for it. What kind of problems do you have with it? I've only used PCI-based QFEs so far, but never encountered any problems with them -- they even make a fine Quad card in IA32 machines now that FreeBSD supports them outside of OpenFirmware systems. -- J"org Wunsch Unix support engineer joerg_wunsch@interface-systems.de http://www.interface-systems.de/~j/ From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Feb 16 13:02:16 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5325316A4CE for ; Wed, 16 Feb 2005 13:02:16 +0000 (GMT) Received: from newtrinity.zeist.de (newtrinity.zeist.de [217.24.217.8]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 78AA343D1F for ; Wed, 16 Feb 2005 13:02:15 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from marius@newtrinity.zeist.de) Received: from newtrinity.zeist.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) j1GD2DpK006678; Wed, 16 Feb 2005 14:02:13 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from marius@newtrinity.zeist.de) Received: (from marius@localhost) by newtrinity.zeist.de (8.12.11/8.12.10/Submit) id j1GD28nI006677; Wed, 16 Feb 2005 14:02:08 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from marius) Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2005 14:02:08 +0100 From: Marius Strobl To: Joerg Wunsch Message-ID: <20050216140208.A6222@newtrinity.zeist.de> References: <86a92e307b2dd4a18e91120078ad0f11@symacx.com> <86a92e307b2dd4a18e91120078ad0f11@symacx.com> <20050216121647.GB91200@ida.interface-business.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5.1i In-Reply-To: <20050216121647.GB91200@ida.interface-business.de>; from j@ida.interface-business.de on Wed, Feb 16, 2005 at 01:16:47PM +0100 X-AntiVirus: checked by AntiVir Milter (version: 1.1.0-3; AVE: 6.29.0.14; VDF: 6.29.0.126; host: newtrinity.zeist.de) cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org cc: Olivier Cherrier Subject: Re: Onboard SCSI controller support on Ultra 2 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2005 13:02:16 -0000 On Wed, Feb 16, 2005 at 01:16:47PM +0100, Joerg Wunsch wrote: > As Olivier Cherrier wrote: > > > Btw., the 3500/4500 are still mentioned as having no support for their > Sbus-based SCSI (fibrechannel) controller. With the switch to uart(4) as the default console in GENERIC there currently is no console support for these machines. Marcel probably will commit a hack to puc(4) soon to make the Z8530 on the FireHose bus work. Ideally fhc(4) should be fixed so this hack isn't required but so far I didn't manage to get access to an E[3-5]000 series machines to test the required changes. Probably a local > problem. Maybe something non related to the patch. The patch fixes DELAY() which would never return in certain situations when used early in boot. The excessive use of DELAY() in uart(4) when probing Sun keyboards seems to always manage to trigger this. If you don't get display output then this should be another issue. Does the monitor work before FreeBSD is booted, i.e. do you see the Open Firmware banner etc.? So far I got one other reply in private mail stating that syscons(4) would work on U10 with the patch. Did the patch change anything for you, i.e. did you try syscons(4) on your U10 in the past and also got the mentioned hang? > > I'm going to test this also on a Ultra1 with a creator card (non-3D). > But that can take a little while. > As far as I can tell only UltraSparc II[e,i] based systems are affected by this issue so the patch shouldn't make any difference on an U1. Have you tried syscons(4) on that U1 before? There's probably a nit with creator(4) and old Creator cards that should be fixed but so far I didn't find a Creator card that is "old enough" to be affected. Could you please send me the output of `ofwdump -a -p` of that machine? I can't remember were I read about it but my impression was that it doesn't work like a shared IRQ in the usual sense. Maybe, but it also works -- I have one in my ultra2, and prefer to use it since the PHY in the onboard hme doesn't autodetect right. I have a PCI QFE as well and was getting bizarre panics when I had it in my e450. The onboard one works fine, strangely enough :-) -- Doug White | FreeBSD: The Power to Serve dwhite@gumbysoft.com | www.FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Feb 18 02:56:43 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1252216A4CE for ; Fri, 18 Feb 2005 02:56:43 +0000 (GMT) Received: from carver.gumbysoft.com (carver.gumbysoft.com [66.220.23.50]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DD75943D55 for ; Fri, 18 Feb 2005 02:56:42 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from dwhite@gumbysoft.com) Received: by carver.gumbysoft.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id D50D072DD8; Thu, 17 Feb 2005 18:56:42 -0800 (PST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by carver.gumbysoft.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id D2FC772DCB; Thu, 17 Feb 2005 18:56:42 -0800 (PST) Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2005 18:56:42 -0800 (PST) From: Doug White To: Dmitriy In-Reply-To: <18712796129.20050217153217@inbox.ru> Message-ID: <20050217185557.M53092@carver.gumbysoft.com> References: <18712796129.20050217153217@inbox.ru> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: your mail X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 18 Feb 2005 02:56:43 -0000 On Thu, 17 Feb 2005, Dmitriy wrote: > Hello! > I have ULTRA5 workstation and big difficalt me install FreeBSD v5.3, > but during install FreeBSD i have problem with graphics and after > install problem remain. > What's i'm need doing, that's resolve this problem. If this is the case hme(4) should be taught to look into all instances of QFE softc. Adding a code to inspect all softc(maybe be seperate interrupt handler wrapper that calls real interrupt handler for each port) would be simple but I guess it also needs special attach/detach routine for QFE and hme(4) should know a global softc where it starts the traverse. -- Regards, Pyun YongHyeon http://www.kr.freebsd.org/~yongari | yongari@freebsd.org From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Feb 19 13:30:34 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A4E4C16A4CE for ; Sat, 19 Feb 2005 13:30:34 +0000 (GMT) Received: from fmmailgate04.web.de (fmmailgate04.web.de [217.72.192.242]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D0CC543D3F for ; Sat, 19 Feb 2005 13:30:33 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from thomas_zenner@web.de) Received: by fmmailgate04.web.de (8.12.10/8.12.10/webde Linux 0.7) with SMTP id j1JDUP2M016582 for freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 19 Feb 2005 14:30:35 +0100 Received: from [84.132.145.35] by freemailng0704.web.de with HTTP; Sat, 19 Feb 2005 14:30:31 +0100 Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2005 14:30:31 +0100 Message-Id: <1602650258@web.de> MIME-Version: 1.0 From: "Thomas Zenner" To: freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.org Precedence: fm-user Organization: http://freemail.web.de/ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Subject: sun ultra2 won't boot obp anymore... Maybe your keyboard died on you... And now it is switching to serial console since it isn't detecting a working keyboard...
