I just updated my AXi machine to 6-current. Just for fun I stuck an old ensoniq 5880 based pci card in the thing, but I can't seem to get the card recognized. Checking /boot/kernel, I only have sound.ko and snd_audiocs.ko modules insofar as anything related to sound support available. The 5.3R release notes for sparc64 indicate that the sound drivers have been "reorganized" - but I don't even see them being built when I compile a kernel, either on 5.3R or 6-current. (Adding kernel options "device sound" or "device "snd_XXXX"" doesn't seen to make a difference one way or another) - So of course, the soundcard is not recognized at boot, and I don't have the proper module to load as an lkm. So my questions: Is there working support for pci audio cards under sparc64? So my questions: > At present, on-board CS4231A audio controllers on SBus/EBus are supported. Other PCI audio controllers may work unless it has DMA address space limits. Due to the high location of DVMA address, sparc64 requires 32bit DMA capable H/W. And most cheap PCI audio cards does not support full 32bit DMA address space. :-( Quick looking the es137x source, it indicates it has no DMA address limitation. So I guess it will work if you build snd_es137x.ko module. #cd /usr/src/sys/modules/sound/driver/es137x #make #kldload ./snd_es137x.ko > Is there working support for pci audio cards under sparc64? Anyone have > it working? > Creative Audigy may work with small patches(endian conversion). But I don't have the card and have no way to test it. Live! and Trident 4D Wave PCI does not work due to the limit of DMA address space. -- Regards, Pyun YongHyeon http://www.kr.freebsd.org/~yongari | yongari@freebsd.org From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Mar 23 11:31:06 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 93B6E16A4CE for ; Wed, 23 Mar 2005 11:31:06 +0000 (GMT) Received: from citadel.icyb.net.ua (citadel.icyb.net.ua [212.40.38.140]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BB7EE43D1F for ; Wed, 23 Mar 2005 11:31:04 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from avg@icyb.net.ua) Received: from [212.40.38.87] (oddity-e.topspin.kiev.ua [212.40.38.87]) by citadel.icyb.net.ua (8.8.8p3/ICyb-2.3exp) with ESMTP id NAA19419 for ; Wed, 23 Mar 2005 13:31:02 +0200 (EET) (envelope-from avg@icyb.net.ua) Message-ID: <42415375.4080107@icyb.net.ua> Date: Wed, 23 Mar 2005 13:31:01 +0200 From: Andriy Gapon User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 (X11/20050319) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="------------090905040007040007070907" Subject: udfclient-0.3.3_1 failed on sparc64: bswap.h X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 23 Mar 2005 11:31:06 -0000 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------090905040007040007070907 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I have a port that fails to build on sparc, I hope that knowledgable people on this list can help me to find the best solution. Does using deprecated keyboard driver still work? It's explained here: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-sparc64/2005-February/002775.html You can grab a patch here: http://www.ijs.si/~lesi/xorg/xorg-server-sparc64-enabledepreckeyboard.diff It will remove the patch that obviously doesn't help and enable 'keyboard' driver on sparc64 platform. If this still works and nobody comes up with something better, this should probably be commited. Can somebody explain the problem on X.Org mailing list (xorg@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/xorg) If no one is willing I'll let them know about this problem (since 'keyboard' driver is deprecated it will eventually go away), but it would probably be more useful if somebody with problem can mail them since of course it would be easier to communicate and debug this. I was trying to install 5.4-BETA1 on a Blade-100 off cdrom using a serial console. Unfortunately the install does not get past the initial kernel initialization. It hangs with the messages acd0: TIMEOUT - READ_BIG retrying (2 retries left) acd0: FAILURE - READ_BIG timed out repeated ad infinitum. I have tried putting the cdrom drive on another channel, but identical results. Note that I tossed out the drive that originally came with the Blade, because that could not read any ceedees at all. Solaris on the same machine could read the cdrom just fine. Verbose boot log is below. Perhaps someone can make any sense out of this. Can't use the keyboard to do an install, so have sent it to the serial port, however just as the install trys to bring up the first menu it hangs 2. Can't see the whole of the harddrive - only sees the first 9 or so GB out of 40GB Any pointers gratefully received! The second part was just in case (I have not followed any non-x86 developments). It can be omitted then. Sun seem to have tweaked the firmware on the CDROM drive they put into the Sun Blade 100's. You can most likely install by issuing hw.ata.atapi_dma=0 at the loader "OK" prompt (stop the default count-down). PLEASE let me know if this works for you. -- -- David (obrien@FreeBSD.org)
