The error means that vm_map_find() returned KERN_NO_SPACE. It could be that there is a 64-bit bug in the code, or it could be that the page tables to index so much memory consume all available space in the kernel map. These boot attempts have been with 5.4-bootonly and 5.4-disc1 CDs. Whatever the fix was it is either not on these images or didn't work for U10. If it matters, the machine is an Ultra 2 Enterprise. FYI - I've gotten a lot of great info from the NetBSD diskless HOWTO as well. I'm serving the diskless boot from OpenBSD on an Ultra 10, so I've had to kind of fill in the blanks but I'm pretty sure I've covered all the bases. On that system I need to run bootparamd to give the diskless client the location of the NFS root-path instead of passing it via dhcp but to be honest, after it takes the loader (boot/loader from the install ISO) via tftp it makes no other network requests and simply hangs. The console shows "a800" after I give the "boot net" command but nothing else. I haven't had much of a chance to debug it past that point but if this rings a bell to anyone I'd appreciate some quick pointers. I'm also trying to get FreeBSD onto the U10 but the kernel hangs, hence my other post from this morning. *sigh* :-) From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 31 10:26:55 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8D1A016A41C for ; Tue, 31 May 2005 10:26:55 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from j@ida.interface-business.de) Received: from ida.interface-business.de (ida.interface-business.de [193.101.57.9]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2A31643D53 for ; Tue, 31 May 2005 10:26:55 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from j@ida.interface-business.de) Received: by ida.interface-business.de (Postfix, from userid 107) id 76D147A0C; Tue, 31 May 2005 12:26:53 +0200 (MET DST) Date: Tue, 31 May 2005 12:26:53 +0200 From: Joerg Wunsch To: Steve Tremblett Message-ID: <20050531102653.GN47950@ida.interface-business.de> References: <20050525045919.GA22279@ida.interface-business.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: X-Phone: +49-351-31809-14 X-PGP-Fingerprint: 5E84 F980 C3CA FD4B B584 1070 F48C A81B 69A8 5873 Organization: interface systems GmbH, Dresden User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6i Cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: installation without CDROM X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Joerg Wunsch List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 31 May 2005 10:26:55 -0000 As Steve Tremblett wrote: > I'm serving the diskless boot from OpenBSD on an Ultra 10, so I've > had to kind of fill in the blanks but I'm pretty sure I've covered > all the bases. Solaris asks for bootparam, perhaps OpenBSD too, but FreeBSD does not. Trouble is "keyboard" driver is deprecated and "kbd" driver doesn't work. I'll probably play with it some more when I get some time now that X can work on Ultra5. For now xorg-server port defaults to "keyboard" driver on sparc64, so it should work out-of-the-box. Are you saying you have xorg-server-6.8.2_2 and you had to remove patch-sparc64kbd to make "keyboard" driver work? That patch is for "kbd" driver, but it doesn't quite solve problems; it shouldn't effect "keyboard" one though. Somehow all my previous ports cvsup downloaded the 6.8.2 and the last one I did (where I removed the patch after everything else (see this mailinglist archives) failed) downloaded the 6.8.2_2 version. And the reason the keyboard works is because of the deprecated driver being used. Steven Dejan Lesjak wrote: >Steven Plehier wrote: > > > >>I'm using the "keyboard" driver.
