After succesfully pulling the files it desired via TFTP, I was dropped back to an ok> prompt. Since I'd been shooting from the hip to begin with, I typed boot kernel on a whim and watched the box start "Resetting...". It sat at "Resetting..." for a good minute, so I powercycled the box. Now I cannot get past the LOM prompt, and while the box does poweron, the SCSI drive does spin up, and LOM does work flawlessly (nothing out of the ordinary sans alarm3, LOM not being 'petted') I cannot get an ok prompt whatsoever. I've tried numerous resets, which do show up in the event log to no avail. A bit of googling turns up a few other lost souls in the same predicament with no resolution and a suggestion of bad hardware. I find it kind of hard to swallow my Netra would decide to bite the dust *right* after loading a FreeBSD kernel. Can anyone on the list shed some light on what I can do next that may revive this box? Please CC me as I'm not subscribed to the list. I'm the only person working on this; currently "get freebsd update building running for non-i386" is stalled waiting for "rewrite freebsd update building code to remove the ugly hacks needed for pre-6.0", which is stalled waiting both for me to have more free time and for some new hardware to become available (I hear that it's on the way). I was expecting to get some work done on this over the summer, but I ended up spending most of that time working on portsnap instead. What I had to do is only apply this smb_lib.h change and apply patches which I posted to this list some days ago. I'll commit these changes, later. I don't know all problem fixes on sparc64, though. Could this be related to the thread =66rom last month where -O2 was identified as cause of such errors? If so, wouldn't it make sense to switch to -O on sparc64 for the mean time (of course it preferrable to fix the underlying problem)? - Christian --=20 Christian Brueffer chris@unixpages.org brueffer@FreeBSD.org GPG Key: http://people.freebsd.org/~brueffer/brueffer.key.asc GPG Fingerprint: A5C8 2099 19FF AACA F41B B29B 6C76 178C A0ED 982D --UlxN1C6awaFNesUv Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.6 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQFDLI9gbHYXjKDtmC0RApUoAKDaOtuf51c89oZe/Cq5H6Qq9b8T2gCfbMq2 jOHBWL0X/t8lz7MI5+B/CnM= =1zsL -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --UlxN1C6awaFNesUv-- From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Sep 17 22:07:38 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: sparc64@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0A65316A41F for ; Sat, 17 Sep 2005 22:07:37 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from kris@obsecurity.org) Received: from fileserver.fields.utoronto.ca (fileserver.fields.utoronto.ca [128.100.216.10]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 41D8443D45 for ; Sat, 17 Sep 2005 22:07:37 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from kris@obsecurity.org) Received: from fields.fields.utoronto.ca (fields.localdomain [192.168.216.11]) by fileserver.fields.utoronto.ca (8.12.8/8.12.8/Fields 6.0) with ESMTP id j8HM7G0r023152 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Sat, 17 Sep 2005 18:07:36 -0400 Received: from obsecurity.dyndns.org (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by fields.fields.utoronto.ca (8.12.8/8.12.8/Fields WS 6.0) with ESMTP id j8HM766P002182; Sat, 17 Sep 2005 18:07:06 -0400 Received: by obsecurity.dyndns.org (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 3689B511DB; Sat, 17 Sep 2005 18:07:05 -0400 (EDT) Date: Sat, 17 Sep 2005 18:07:04 -0400 From: Kris Kennaway To: Christian Brueffer Message-ID: <20050917220704.GA34231@xor.obsecurity.org> References: <20050917214920.GI1151@unixpages.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="n8g4imXOkfNTN/H1" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20050917214920.GI1151@unixpages.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i Cc: sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: fast data mmu miss with 6.0-BETA4 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 17 Sep 2005 22:07:38 -0000 --n8g4imXOkfNTN/H1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Sat, Sep 17, 2005 at 11:49:20PM +0200, Christian Brueffer wrote: > Hi, >=20 > I'm trying to install 6.0-BETA4 on an Ultra 10 but get a fast data mmu > miss after the kernel is loaded. This is a generic panic, so you need to post the backtrace.
