I have an ultra 2 that I wish to run FreeBSD 6 on. Prior to the last few days, I have had zero experience with netbooting and sparc64. I found very little documentation for netbooting the install of FreeBSD. In my search, I found NetBSD's documentation. Anxious to see if this box even works (it was given to me through work), I followed those directions. I got NetBSD installed within a couple of hours. Now that I know it _works_, how do I put FreeBSD on here? I'm not asking for a step by step. By exporting disc1, I can get the OS up and running, but sysinstall doesn't work properly. Can someone give me a hint? But when I try to set polling up during the boot: ifconfig_dc0="inet 1.2.3.4 netmask 255.255.255.224 media 100BaseTX mediaopt full-duplex polling up" the machine starts up with the standard: kernel: dc0: failed to force tx and rx to idle state lines but seconds later it begins to drop packages along with the following error: kernel: dc0: TX underrun -- increasing TX threshold then again some "idle state" messages and another TX underrun, then this: kernel: dc0: TX underrun -- using store and forward mode after this line is logged, the machine stops forwarding packets. If I set polling later (for example after a few days of uptime) than in the boot process, it seems that there are no problems. The machine itself has some vlans on dc0 and all it does is packet filtering with pf. Any ideas? It works great. What doesn't work quite so well now is the mouse and keyboard. The sections are: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc102" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/sysmouse" EndSection but neither the mouse moves, nor does the keyboard give reasonable key strokes. Obviously something is wrong. Adding and removing the line Option "XkbModel" "pc102" doesn't seem to change anything. I've also guessed that pc102 should be changed to sun5 and that didn't help. So, what obvious thing am I missing now? If you run moused, you'll want to have X access the mouse via /dev/sysmouse... Pointing to the serial interface for the mouse directly from X works, also. In this case (as is the case on most sun4u workstations) /dev/cuau3 is the port to which the mouse is connected. In case anyone's curious, and for the saking of thoroughness, if you wanted to run moused and have X access the mouse via /dev/sysmouse, you'd want to run moused with the 'mousesystems' type, and /dev/cuau3 as the port. In this case, you'd want to specify the protocol as "auto" in the Xorg configuration. Take care and enjoy! --- Bruce O'Neel wrote: > Excellent!
