Assumption: "Power Hungry" is false as it's still recognised when the hub is Not powered from mains (& nothing else is plugged on hub to provide power). The mouse stick is seen when plugged in direct on same laptop running XP. Perhaps it's weird timing ? If anyone has a clue & wants to send me patches to test, I'd happily try them. So far I played with sys/dev/usb/umass.c and sys/cam/scsi/scsi_da.c quirks,= =20 but nothing helped. How can I verify that my patches are used with my=20 device? What strings do I have to define in scsi_da.c? Here some info: umass0: Generic USB Storage Device, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 8 port 3 addr 8: full speed, power 100 mA, config 1, USB Storage=20 Device(0x5010), Generic(0x07c4), rev 1.00 scbus3 on umass-sim0 bus 0: at scbus3 target 0 lun 0 (da0,pass2) at scbus3 target 0 lun 1 (da1,pass3) at scbus3 target 0 lun 2 (da2,pass4) at scbus3 target 0 lun 3 (da3,pass5) When I plug it in, the reader gets accessed every 2 seconds or so for=20 several minutes. During that time I cannot mount anything else! After all=20 these errors I can access the device, but very slowly and umounting it=20 takes onther view minutes! Please find attached a panic with trace I got and the logs of the reader=20 behaviour. Interesting is, when I unplug it before these errors run into=20 any timeout, I see "Synchronize cache failed, status =3D=3D 0x39, scsi stat= us=20 =3D=3D 0x0" so I had bet it can be made working by devining a scsi_de.c qui= rk.=20 But no luck, perhaps I took the wrong string? Here's waht I tried: umass.c: { 0x07c4, 0x5010, RID_WILDCARD, UMASS_PROTO_SCSI | UMASS_PROTO_BBB, FORCE_SHORT_INQUIRY | NO_START_STOP | IGNORE_RESIDUE } I tried all kinds of quirks! scsi_da.c: { /* * Datafab MotionFlash CS4-USBN50 6in1 card reader. */ {T_DIRECT, SIP_MEDIA_REMOVABLE, "Generic*" , "USB Storage*", "*"}, /*quirks*/ DA_Q_NO_SYNC_CACHE }, I'm no developer so I don't know how to get this thingie working. But I'm=20 quiet sure it has been working with FreeBSD arround 5.2 times. Needless to= =20 say that it's working with other OS's. I have never seen this error on my system. Try creating this link manually: ln -s /usr/src/sys /usr/src/sys/modules/usb/@ ^ looks like there was a missing slash here If you use i386, the kernel config files are in "/sys/i386/conf/". cp GENERIC custom ee custom remove "-g" option Then cd /usr/src; make buildkernel installkernel KERNCONF=custom This will install all the modules and the kernel afterwards. I takes around 1 hour, depending on the speed of your computer. --HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Aug 18 04:30:15 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C8DD216A41F for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:30:15 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4879D43D46 for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:30:15 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j7I4UFj1040539 for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:30:15 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j7I4UFl3040533; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:30:15 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:30:15 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200508180430.j7I4UFl3040533@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Peter Ulrich Kruppa Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9204B16A41F for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:20:57 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [216.136.204.117]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 62FE143D45 for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:20:57 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id j7I4KvZm047007 for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:20:57 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1/Submit) id j7I4KvYk047006; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:20:57 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200508180420.j7I4KvYk047006@www.freebsd.org> Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:20:57 GMT From: Peter Ulrich Kruppa To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-2.3 Cc: Subject: usb/85067: Cannot attach ScanJet 4300C to usb device X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2005 04:30:15 -0000 >Number: 85067 >Category: usb >Synopsis: Cannot attach ScanJet 4300C to usb device >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-usb >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: sw-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Thu Aug 18 04:30:14 GMT 2005 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Peter Ulrich Kruppa >Release: 6.0-BETA2 >Organization: private >Environment: FreeBSD www.pukruppa.net 6.0-BETA2 FreeBSD 6.0-BETA2 #0: Mon Aug 15 04:24:29 CEST 2005 root@www.pukruppa.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/SMALL i386 >Description: When I plug my ScanJet 4300C to the USB port I get this # dmesg uscanner1: vendor 0x03f0 product 0x0305, rev 1.00/0.00, addr 2 uscanner1: setting config no failed device_attach: uscanner1 attach returned 6 uhub0: port 2, set config at addr 2 failed uhub0: device problem (STALLED), disabling port 2 >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: This is no vital problem, since I can boot into Windows and run my ScanJet there. What's your opinion. It depends. :) If your device maps to one of the standard kernel services like network controllers, disk or tape based storage, tty device, etc, you mostly likely want to implement in kernel unless there is an appropriate interface to provide the kernel interface from userland and performance isn't critical (for instance, if_tap provides an ethernet like device with a userland process being responsible for actually sending the packets.) For stuff that doesn't fit into this category a userland solution may well be better since you get many platforms for free. -- Brooks --=20 Any statement of the form "X is the one, true Y" is FALSE. What's your opinion. ------------------- Isn't there problems with libusb that make it a big compromize ? For example, last I knew (admittedly several months ago) the reason my canoscan lide scanner was so horrendously slow in linux was because it used libusb and libusb didn't have a way to do the type of transfer the scanner really needs. Something about async vs sync? I know in freebsd I have used the same scanner both using the in-kernel /dev/uscanner0, and libusb. I didn't do these things at the same time or on the same machine, nor had I yet tried to do a high quality scan that exposed the slowness compared to the same scan in windows. So I never tried a direct comparison of speeds under the different drivers on the same hardware doing the same scan. Been meaning to since the scanner happens to be on a freebsd box again and I have uses for the scanner again. Brian K. I'm just digging into usb programming, I want to write drivers for my motorola phone. Normally, my phone connects in AT mode, with product ID being: 0x4902, but in I need to change this mode to P2K (in order to operate the phone). On linux it's done by sending AT command "AT+MODE=3D8" to the acm device, here - by sending the same command to ucom device. If the command executed successfully, phone's product ID should change to 0x4901 (I believe the phone has to reboot it self to achieve this?). But here's what I get when executing the following: root@# cu -l /dev/ucom0=20 AT+MODE=3D8 OK Lost carrier. [EOT] root@# cu -l /dev/ucom0=20 /dev/ucom0: No such file or directory link down Output of dmesg: ucom0: ucomreadcb: IOERROR ucom0: abnormal status: IOERROR ucom0: abnormal status: IOERROR ucom0: at uhub0 port 1 (addr 2) disconnected ucom0: still open, forcing close I believe the phone can't return from rebooting? Here's that piece of code from /usr/src/sys/dev/usb/ucom.c: Line 1045 =09if (status !=3D USBD_NORMAL_COMPLETION) { =09=09if (!(sc->sc_state & UCS_RXSTOP)) =09=09=09printf("%s: ucomreadcb: %s\n", =09=09=09 USBDEVNAME(sc->sc_dev), usbd_errstr(status)); =09=09sc->sc_state |=3D UCS_RXSTOP; =09=09if (status =3D=3D USBD_STALLED) =09=09=09usbd_clear_endpoint_stall_async(sc->sc_bulkin_pipe); =09=09/* XXX we should restart after some delay. */ =09=09return; =09} Line 1056 /* XXX we should restart after some delay. */ Doe's this comment means it lacks some functionality? Could someone wit the knowledge make a patch or tell me what to do? I would be very thankful, because this really stops my progress. Thank you. I have a UMP2 module based on the FTDI FT8U245BM chip, a USB to parallel chip. The module in intended to interface processors like the AVR or 68HC1x to the USB. I am using the FTDI ATmega16, clocked at 16 mHz. My project will have 3 or 3 bytes put into the USB every 6.0 to 7.8 uSec or every 11.2 to 12.8 uSec, depending on the degradation of precision due to over-clocking the ATMega16 ADC. Most of the data flow is into FreeBSD. So, I need about 0.75 mBytes thruput. Maybe a few bytes per second out of FreeBSD. The UMP2 is recognized as a ucom device, vendor 0x0403 product 0x6001 release 0x0200 If I 'kldload uftdi', I get uftdi.ko and ucom.ko loaded. Then, powering up the UMP2 results in the device being connected. From dmesg: ucom0: FTDI USB HS Serial Converter, rev 1.10/2.00, addr 2 I can connect to the device with tip. But, I cannot disconnect! '~.' displays [EOT] but tip does not exit. I can disconnect as root! I have to cycle power on the UMP2 to get tip to exit! And, cycle power on the UMP2 to get it recognized again!. Sometimes, it takes several minutes before one of the drivers gets in sync with the hardware. BTW, the behavior of tip has changed from a UNIX-style 0x0a to a WINDOZE style 0x0d,0x0a to get UNIX display behavior! I plan to try tip with ucom0 with an echo process in the AVR to just return any char received by the UMP2. Can I get the 0.75 mByte thruput with uftdi driver, accessed thru ucom? tomdean From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Aug 20 07:21:25 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: usb@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C83DE16A41F for ; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 07:21:25 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from marcus@marcuscom.com) Received: from creme-brulee.marcuscom.com (creme-brulee.marcuscom.com [24.172.16.118]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1B6C343D48 for ; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 07:21:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from marcus@marcuscom.com) Received: from shumai.marcuscom.com (shumai.marcuscom.com [192.168.1.4]) by creme-brulee.marcuscom.com (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j7K7LOl1000924 for ; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 03:21:24 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from marcus@marcuscom.com) From: Joe Marcus Clarke To: usb@freebsd.org Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="=-SSuoOi6Lm5oPncmXaaQW" Organization: MarcusCom, Inc. I haven't checked on FreeBSD-current, if this has been fixed, but I guess that the "controller halted" is due to the "EHCI scheduler" getting off the track.I have posted a PR on this and what needs to be changed: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=usb/79722 You can try changing this manually in "/sys/dev/usb/ehci.h", or install my USB driver: Download the three files below into a new directory and type "make install" (to uninstall type "make deinstall") http://home.c2i.net/hselasky/isdn4bsd/privat/usb/Makefile http://home.c2i.net/hselasky/isdn4bsd/privat/usb/new_usb_1_5_4.diff.bz2 http://home.c2i.net/hselasky/isdn4bsd/privat/usb/new_usb_1_5_4.tar.bz2 After this you recompile the kernel or all usb modules in "/sys/modules/": aue/Makefile axe/Makefile cdce/Makefile cue/Makefile if_ndis/Makefile kue/Makefile ndis/Makefile netgraph/bluetooth/ubtbcmfw netgraph/bluetooth/ubtbcmfw/Makefile netgraph/bluetooth/ubt/Makefile rue/Makefile sound/driver/uaudio/Makefile ubsa/Makefile ubser/Makefile ucom/Makefile ucycom/Makefile udav/Makefile udbp/Makefile ufm/Makefile uftdi/Makefile ugen/Makefile uhid/Makefile ukbd/Makefile ulpt/Makefile umass/Makefile umct/Makefile umodem/Makefile ums/Makefile uplcom/Makefile ural/Makefile urio/Makefile usb/Makefile uscanner/Makefile uvisor/Makefile uvscom/Makefile NOTE: The module "slhci" will be broken if you install my USB driver, but I don't think you need this module working, hence you have already got an "EHCI" controller. ee /sys/modules/slhci/Makefile It might be that this module is not present on "FreeBSD 6". I am not sure, but just in case it exits, just comment out everything in the Makefile, using "#". That will prevent build world from failing. --HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Aug 20 21:54:18 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2ACD216A41F for ; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 21:54:18 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from tomdean@speakeasy.org) Received: from mail28.sea5.speakeasy.net (mail28.sea5.speakeasy.net [69.17.117.30]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D2CB543D53 for ; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 21:54:17 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from tomdean@speakeasy.org) Received: (qmail 3217 invoked from network); 20 Aug 2005 21:54:17 -0000 Received: from dsl081-020-229.sea1.dsl.speakeasy.net (HELO asus.tddhome) ([64.81.20.229]) (envelope-sender ) by mail28.sea5.speakeasy.net (qmail-ldap-1.03) with AES256-SHA encrypted SMTP for ; 20 Aug 2005 21:54:17 -0000 Received: from asus.tddhome (localhost.tddhome [127.0.0.1]) by asus.tddhome (8.13.3/8.12.11) with ESMTP id j7KLv1vj005020 for ; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 14:57:01 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from tomdean@speakeasy.org) Received: (from tomdean@localhost) by asus.tddhome (8.13.3/8.12.11/Submit) id j7KLv1GF005017; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 14:57:01 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from tomdean@speakeasy.org) Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 14:57:01 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200508202157.j7KLv1GF005017@asus.tddhome> X-Authentication-Warning: asus.tddhome: tomdean set sender to tomdean@speakeasy.org using -f From: User Tomdean To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Subject: Ucom/Uftdi Thru-put X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 21:54:18 -0000 I am running FreeBSD 5.4 on an ASUS A7N266E.
