I have 2 partitions on this computer, one with Windows XP and one with FreeBSD 5.4. The Windows XP detects the USB pens without any problem. FreeBSD acts as if they are not present. I have also checked BIOS settings to make sure USB is enabled. However, on one of my other FreeBSD 5.4 computers, both pens are detected when I connect them. The computer that is not able to detect the pens is an IBM NetVista S42 (8319-74G). I am including dmesg output. I've tried alot of things, without any luck. I am not an expert with FreeBSD, so I am hoping to get some advice or hint on here, as a last hope :-) I would be very happy if I could get the USB pens to work on this computer. Also according to dmesg output, my USB ports seem to be detected as 1.0. It should be USB 2.0. Not sure why they are detected as 1.0. PS: I connected a Soundblaster Live! 24 bit USB device to this computer, and FreeBSD detected it. It's just the USB pens... :-( Any ideas? To make it work on FreeBSD, I used the following patch : --- /sys/dev/usb/umodem.c Wed May 18 12:22:45 2005 +++ umodem.c Tue Oct 18 12:47:42 2005 @@ -125,6 +125,7 @@ } umodem_products[] = { /* Kyocera AH-K3001V*/ { USB_VENDOR_KYOCERA, USB_PRODUCT_KYOCERA_AHK3001V, 0 }, + { 0x106c, 0x3701, 0 }, { 0, 0, 0 }, }; With this patch I can use pppd to connect to the verizon network successfully. Hope this helps. Could it be used between *BSD and unsimilar linux based devices? Has anyone ever made a tcp/ip connection over USB between Palm and *BSD with CDCE driver? If not, how about udbp + netgraph? Any suggestion is appreciated. The patches have been languishing in obscurity for over a year now while real users are bitten by the problem over and over again. Is there any chance of getting this quirk merged or equivalent functionality obtained some other way? --Adam From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 21 23:01:54 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9593816A41F for ; Fri, 21 Oct 2005 23:01:54 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from bsdaemon@comcast.net) Received: from rwcrmhc12.comcast.net (rwcrmhc14.comcast.net [216.148.227.89]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2227843D45 for ; Fri, 21 Oct 2005 23:01:53 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from bsdaemon@comcast.net) Received: from fw.home (pcp05405355pcs.norstn01.pa.comcast.net[68.81.66.212]) by comcast.net (rwcrmhc14) with SMTP id <20051021230150014006bhl3e>; Fri, 21 Oct 2005 23:01:51 +0000 Received: (qmail 20927 invoked from network); 21 Oct 2005 23:01:48 -0000 Received: from kris.home (f0904af9240e71b03d6a4f8581707dd7@192.168.0.251) by fw.home with SMTP; 21 Oct 2005 23:01:48 -0000 Received: (qmail 40970 invoked by uid 1000); 21 Oct 2005 23:01:48 -0000 Date: Fri, 21 Oct 2005 19:01:47 -0400 From: Kris Maglione To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20051021230147.GA40893@kris.home> Mail-Followup-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i Subject: USB mouse, wheel doesn't work X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 21 Oct 2005 23:01:54 -0000 I accidentally sent this to hackers first, so, sorry for the cross-post. I have a gyration mouse. At first, it didn't work, but I got it working by setting sc->sc_iid to 0 in USB_ATTACH in ums.c. The only problem that I have now is that the wheel doesn't work. The wheel is supposed to be reported in the 4th byte of sc_ibuf. The problem is that nothing after the third byte is touched. In fact, I had to zero the entire buffer after the malloc, so some junk value didn't cause a persistent Z axis value. When I turn the wheel, I get a bunch of events, but with no data... the first three bytes are set to 0, and the rest are either junk (if I haven't zerod after the malloc), or null (if I have). I don't know enough about the USB subsystem to go chasing after this myself, but I would assume that the problem is outside of the ums driver. Can someone point me in the right direction here? If it helps, the device is a combination keyboard/mouse reciever. Thanks -- Kris Maglione No matter what happens, there is always somebody who knew that it would.
