Personally I think the press section should just be removed from the front page, since it's really not that interesting IMHO. If not, we should merge the news and press sections together on the front page so we don't "waste" as much front page space on the press section. --=20 Simon L. I think it should be moved to a so-called `corporate' section like I was discussing earlier. I have received a couple whitepapers from people and I think that it would be really nice to get that kind of information up. Some of the press articles are silly, but I find them 9 of the 10 times quite interesting. > If not, we should merge the news and press sections together on the > front page so we don't "waste" as much front page space on the press > section. Well, news is important. If we can get news `shorts' that would be really neat, because we could style them in a pretty cool way. --Devon From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Mar 6 08:34:07 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0843B16A4CE; Sun, 6 Mar 2005 08:34:07 +0000 (GMT) Received: from engine140.deployzone.net (engine140.deployzone.net [193.17.85.140]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 296D143D2D; Sun, 6 Mar 2005 08:34:06 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from chris@czv.com) Received: from adsl-212-90-218-5.cybernet.ch [212.90.218.5] by engine140.deployzone.net; Sun, 6 Mar 2005 09:32:23 +0100 In-Reply-To: <20050306070430.GB792@zaphod.nitro.dk> References: <1109957682.3926.125.camel@localhost.localdomain><33c19bc70348d13c641c496e4c1de07c@czv.com><1109982696.3926.148.camel@localhost.localdomain> <20050306070430.GB792@zaphod.nitro.dk> Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v619.2) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Message-Id: Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Chris Zumbrunn Date: Sun, 6 Mar 2005 09:34:02 +0100 To: "Simon L. Certainly the status reports that Scott collects would be great reliable (in the sense that they're periodic guaranteed content) news shorts. > > really neat, because we could style them in a pretty cool way. > > What do you mean with `shorts' ? Something longer than the title, but > shorter than the description? Well, like I said in a previous mail, something (XSL macro?) that would take the news sections and shorten them to perhaps 50 to 70 words and then have a ``more'' link for the rest of the article. For the cases where we don't have a full article, just a quick heading could be used. For instance: /* NEW FREEBSD STATUS REPORT In this month's status report we take a look at Robert Watson's work on netperf and Soren's ATA stuff, bla bla bla... Personally I'm not too crazy about it (though I think it good to get different ideas throw up in the air, so to speak). I can't really put my finger on what wrong, but it's because the four columns makes it harder to get an overview fast, at least I like the other versions (especially http://dragonfly.the-bofh.org/~dodell/en/index.html ) at lot better. The four columns also has the problems that each line is very short, which mean that e.g. the news item span two lines which I think should be avoided if possible. --=20 Simon L. The news don't really need to be a "list". Yes, with over 300 committers watching the news sites sometimes we pick up stories that the other bsd news sites/blogs miss. And differences from line to line, depending on who edited last. Certainly, it would be good to know what should be used, tabs or spaces, so that things can be cleaned up while working on it. /czv From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Mar 8 08:12:14 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 13F2B16A4CE for ; Tue, 8 Mar 2005 08:12:14 +0000 (GMT) Received: from smtpq2.home.nl (smtpq2.home.nl [213.51.128.197]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ABF7143D41 for ; Tue, 8 Mar 2005 08:12:13 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from dodell@sitetronics.com) Received: from [213.51.128.132] (port=59638 helo=smtp1.home.nl) by smtpq2.home.nl with esmtp (Exim 4.30) id 1D8Zp6-0006uu-OC; Tue, 08 Mar 2005 09:12:12 +0100 Received: from cc740438-a.deven1.ov.home.nl ([82.72.18.239]:32888 helo=192.168.1.104) by smtp1.home.nl with esmtp (Exim 4.30) id 1D8Zp5-0005OZ-QH; Tue, 08 Mar 2005 09:12:11 +0100 From: "Devon H. OK, so I screwed up when I replaced tabs with spaces on lines I edited. The current "rule" is to indent with two spaces but replace 8 spaces with a tab? For most other projects, I usually configure my editor to produce 4 spaces per tab, generally resulting in tab free code. But I'm happy to adjust to whatever is deemed appropriate for www and doc. /czv From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Mar 8 08:33:47 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EC4E816A4CE for ; Tue, 8 Mar 2005 08:33:47 +0000 (GMT) Received: from eddie.nitro.dk (port324.ds1-khk.adsl.cybercity.dk [212.242.113.79]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6A72843D5A for ; Tue, 8 Mar 2005 08:33:47 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from simon@eddie.nitro.dk) Received: by eddie.nitro.dk (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 311FC11A142; Tue, 8 Mar 2005 09:33:46 +0100 (CET) Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2005 09:33:46 +0100 From: "Simon L. Irie Pascal is a multi-platform compiler and interpreter that creates console programs and web server programs (using the Common Gateway Interface). Features include: strong support for Standard Pascal (ideal for learning Pascal), MySQL database programming, and creating programs to process large datasets (no 64K limit on code or data). Irie Pascal supports five different operating systems (FreeBSD, Windows, Linux, Solaris/x86, and Solaris/Sparc). There is a separate edition of Irie Pascal for each supported operating systems, and programs created with the compiler in any edition can by executed (without being recompiled) by the interpreters in all editions. A free evaluation copy is available at the Irie Tools website.

Its granularity is much too coarse, blacklisting a whole site (in this case, go.com) and preventing innocent mail from that site from getting through. Here's the letter which I tried to send from my account on go.com but which was unjustly blocked: How long has it been since anybody went through the list of vendors (software is the list of particular concern to me) and trimmed out the obsolete listings? It seems to have been quite a while. Somebody take an hour or two and try all the links; a number of them won't work as expected. -- Jeffrey J. Ch is an embeddable C/C++ interpreter for cross-platform scripting, 2D/3D plotting, numerical computing, shell programming and embedded scripting. Ch is a C/C++ interpreter that supports the ISO 1990 C Standard (C90), major features in C99 (complex numbers, variable length arrays or VLAs, type generic functions, long long data type, etc), and C++ class. Ch has extensions to C language with built-in string type etc for easy scritping. Ch also has extensions with computational array for easy numerical computing and 2D/3D plotting. I wonder if you can add a link to us from your website http://www.freebsd.org/commercial/software.html Thanks. It shows "FreeBSD 4.11" at the bottom no matter what version you ask for, probably because it runs on FreeBSD 4.11. It also seems to give out -CURRENT man pages if you ask for 4.11. People who have jobs (or should that be "job$"?) volunteer their time. People like me, who don't, are reluctant to do any such work unless they get paid. That's why I was going through the list: looking for companies that were hiring. If any of you reading this know of a place (preferably in the U.S.) that's hiring good Unix/Linux software types (say, if you work there), please let me know. (If you can not only point me to the website but also give me the email addresses of actual hiring managers, so I can bypass HR, that would be even better.) I actually looked up your tecnik93.com to see if any work was available there, but I don't think I'm quite ready to work in Romania, being a U.S. citizen and resident, though I could probably learn the language fairly easily. It can go the other way too; I've got one of my last contracts because someone was interested in an app. based on a few ports I maintain and saw I was active on the respective mailing lists. > That's why I was going through the list: looking for companies that were hiring. As you know, this is a volunteer effort; your report was. of course, useful :) I thought hat since you clicked on those links, providing a list with the broken ones would have been easy. > I actually looked up your tecnik93.com to see if any work was > available there, but I don't think I'm quite ready to work in > Romania, being a U.S. citizen and resident, though I could probably > learn the language fairly easily. Actually the first inconvenient thing for you would be the salary; I doubt there are (many) Romanian companies that could/would pay you at the same level an US one would. < OT from here > > (Plus, Americans aren't popular in Europe; people wouldn't know I never voted > for Bush.) I doubt you'll find much anti-americanism here; e few days ago our president has discussed with mr. Bush about US military bases here. But that might change in the future. US [leaders] choosed your country foreign policy to be based on military force (somehow a valid decision probably because no other strong enough force exists). But more disturbing is the way they choose to be part of / obey the ruling of the international organisms only when they support US position (Kyoto and TPI Vienna accords are recent examples). -- IOnut Unregistered ;) FreeBSD "user" From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Mar 12 21:30:31 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 114E416A4CE for ; Sat, 12 Mar 2005 21:30:31 +0000 (GMT) Received: from inga.augusta.de (inga.augusta.de [213.209.142.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BD1CE43D49 for ; Sat, 12 Mar 2005 21:30:29 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from slice@augusta.de) Received: from [213.209.142.132] (aeris.augusta.de [213.209.142.132]) (authenticated bits=0) by inga.augusta.de (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id j2CLSwNb075138 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=RC4-SHA bits=128 verify=NO); Sat, 12 Mar 2005 22:28:59 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from slice@augusta.de) Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v619.2) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Message-Id: <49c3b17c48968eb829f0ebc2f8390331@augusta.de> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Christian Hamm Date: Sat, 12 Mar 2005 22:29:28 +0100 To: www@FreeBSD.org X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.619.2) X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-1.3 required=5.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_10,HTML_MESSAGE autolearn=no version=2.64 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.64 (2004-01-11) on inga.augusta.de cc: bsdag@augusta.de Subject: BSD User Group in Augsburg, Germany X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 12 Mar 2005 21:30:31 -0000 Hi there, Here is a new entry to your user group list: Germany, Augsburg The BSD User Group of the Augsburger Computer Forum e.V. meets every second Saturday at 17.00.
