I have burnt the flash with the redboot image. When i turn off the board and then turn it ON then the code doesnt work and doesnt show anything on the hyperterminal. But if i reset the board then the code is working fine. Can u please suggest me the possible reason alongwith the solution of this problem as soon as possible. But if i reset the board then the code is working fine. Neither ecos nor redboot is part of FreeBSD. Speaking of hardware - maybe the onboard reset is bad - the reset impuls for the rm9200 needs to be very long. But that is guessing, I just know the hardware, not your software. > Can u please suggest me the possible reason alongwith the solution of this > problem as soon as possible. I've never used redboot because I didn't want the hassles of GPL'd software on the embedded project I was working on (I hate keeping track of all the tarballs, and the company doesn't want the hassles). I'd make sure that the redboot image was good for this board. Maybe it is waiting for some other part that is marginal and needs a second reset to work. Maybe it is compiled for a different PHY, so the initial reset sequence doesn't quite work. Maybe you have a hardware problem in the components that the boot code touches. We had a mixup on the magnetics of our ethernet port that caused odd behavior during the early stages of bringing up our board. This sounds similar to the PHY problem we had. We had the wrong phy support code in, so it looped forever waiting for a busy bit to clear that meant something else in the other PHY. If it dies later, your only option may be to do a binary search to see if it dies before or after this point or that point and refine the bounds of the search until you've located the problem. This means you'll need to build and burn many images to the flash you have. I wish I could help you more but (a) you are using redboot (b) I've never had to debug it and (c) the board specific code is so customized for the specific hardware it is nearly impossible for me to do anything but guess and wildly speculate. Sorry. Now, if you were using the boot loader I wrote... I want to resolve this question in google, but I have not found anything about this. I compile ixp425 in freebsd 7.0 current version. my step is that: 1 sysinstall -> distribution -> src -> sys to my machine. 2 cvs upate /usr/src/sys/arm path 3 cd /usr/src/sys/arm/conf && config AVILA now I get an error: AVILA: unknown option "CPU_XSCALE_IXP425" why I get this error report? Thanks a lot. Regrads Jesse. Hi Jesse, You need to cvs update /sys, not just /sys/arm. The bits you're missing here are in /sys/conf, but you should keep the whole /sys tree coherent. Cheers, Olivier
