The rationale behind this is that the lists are open to anyone and it's not easy to remember by heart who is already a subscriber. Fortunately, for those who hate duplicate messages, one can use Mailman's options to avoid duplicate messages: [ http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/options/freebsd-chat ] Avoid duplicate copies of messages? When you are listed explicitly in the To: or Cc: headers of a list message, you can opt to not receive another copy from the mailing list. Select Yes to avoid receiving copies from the mailing list; select No to receive copies. If the list has member personalized messages enabled, and you elect to receive copies, every copy will have a X-Mailman-Copy: yes header added to it. ( ) Yes (*) No [ ] Set globally I hope this helps :) From owner-freebsd-chat@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Mar 8 12:41:29 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: chat@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-chat@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9C32216A420 for ; Wed, 8 Mar 2006 12:41:29 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from adam.egan@gmail.com) Received: from zproxy.gmail.com (zproxy.gmail.com [64.233.162.199]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2BF1C43D46 for ; Wed, 8 Mar 2006 12:41:29 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from adam.egan@gmail.com) Received: by zproxy.gmail.com with SMTP id i28so181528nzi for ; Wed, 08 Mar 2006 04:41:28 -0800 (PST) DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=beta; d=gmail.com; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:in-reply-to:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition:references; b=UQbiNF738HKw8/76JGqQJSHcGOn2Jq2jXdQT4Dvdy3YiRIdOU/v/CEdlesL2sEC0IUo/V4f4ObHLJ31cMi2iwrwieg+eWvcOe7HLGPyLQ0FITwyWcdtYtSprzGWMSuiK2xBegk6kpAhDYF0a39CxX4yymI6TBVHmDZOLKPbcIGk= Received: by 10.65.234.13 with SMTP id l13mr289752qbr; Wed, 08 Mar 2006 04:41:28 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.64.180.18 with HTTP; Wed, 8 Mar 2006 04:41:28 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: <28745bbf0603080441v7d50be5au@mail.gmail.com> Date: Wed, 8 Mar 2006 12:41:28 +0000 From: "Adam Egan" To: chat@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: <440E7CA0.2030304@joeholden.co.uk> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline References: <17420.21565.576522.75765@chlr3027.ch.intel.com> <28745bbf0603070706m6ff6fef9t@mail.gmail.com> <440DEBF6.5070002@evildomain.org> <28745bbf0603071916g210b5f09u@mail.gmail.com> <440E7CA0.2030304@joeholden.co.uk> Cc: Subject: Re: Great job to all who work on FreeBSD!
