Just to clarify this a bit more: As Tom Rhodes has already explained, the firewall_script option is different from firewall_type. Their difference is relatively subtle, but it is described in the rc.conf(5) manpage: firewall_script (str) This variable specifies the full path to the firewall script to run. The default is /etc/rc.firewall. firewall_type (str) Names the firewall type from the selection in /etc/rc.firewall, or the file which contains the local firewall ruleset. Valid selections from /etc/rc.firewall are: open unrestricted IP access closed all IP services disabled, except via ``lo0'' client basic protection for a workstation simple basic protection for a LAN. If a filename is specified, the full path must be given. The rest of the Handbook chapter is written in a style that bypasses the pre-canned firewall rulesets of rc.firewall, using a custom shell script that runs ipfw directly, so firewall_script is correct there. So we don't need to change anything there, for now. Thanks for your willingness to help us improving the docs though. Please keep submitting anything you notice that needs to be fixed :) - Giorgos From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jan 9 11:00:34 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D84CA16A41F for ; Mon, 9 Jan 2006 11:00:34 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7620743D45 for ; Mon, 9 Jan 2006 11:00:34 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k09B0YB7065006 for ; Mon, 9 Jan 2006 11:00:34 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id k09B0XuT065000 for freebsd-doc@freebsd.org; Mon, 9 Jan 2006 11:00:33 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 9 Jan 2006 11:00:33 GMT Message-Id: <200601091100.k09B0XuT065000@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: FreeBSD doc list Subject: Current unassigned doc problem reports X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 09 Jan 2006 11:00:35 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports The following is a listing of current problems submitted by FreeBSD users. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. Thanks patched! Unfortunately russian translation of the Release Notes for 6.0-RELEASE doesn't exist. I hope it will be available soon. I dont know how you guys even considered posting it, but yet its there.. The small portion of code supplied in the document is poorly written. Not to mention the section concerning programming with the FPU, which if anyone actually bothered reading it, will notice its basically a guide for coding software for Pinhole Cameras, and very little to do with freebsd at all. With about id guess 60 lines concerning actual use of the FPU, and another 1050 lines concerning Pinhole cameras. That being said, Can i submit an alternate guide for x86 asm programming to replace the current one? Where do i submit it to? Can i leave it in basic text format, with different chapters, or do i need to edit it with html tags in similiar design to the rest of the Developers Handbook? Well, that may be the problem, it must have something to do with FreeBSD. The current developers-handbook chapter about assembly show how to do things under FreeBSD with assembler, it's the interesting point, without that it does not really worth to have another x86 assembler tutorial in our documentation set (google offers plenty of doc on that subject). If you think the current section is wrong or badly written, what about submitting updates? > With about id guess 60 lines concerning actual use of the FPU, and another > 1050 lines concerning Pinhole cameras. > That being said, Can i submit an alternate guide for x86 asm programming to > replace the current one? > Where do i submit it to? You don't have to convert your text to SGML, we can do it.
