Unless you have a postscript (with .ps files) or plain text (for text only) printer, lpr will not print correctly except printing some garbages. If you used gs to convert .ps files to hp 1115 coded files, then you may use "lpr" command to print. Is this the way you printed? If so, the DeviceFILTER you used in gs option -sDEVICE=DeviceFILTER indicates the printer driver you need to use for CUPS. If CUPS has no related filter, then you need to write a filter/PDD file to invoke gs to do the conversion job for CUPS to print. It needs some work, but it is not too bad. I have a MFC 420n printer, I could not find a filter in either gs or CUPS, so I cannot use this printer under Unix/FreeBSD via lpr or CUPS :-) Since you said that you can print via lpr, then you should be able to print via CUPS. Just need a more clear picture on how you printed by using lpr. -Jin From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Apr 2 00:11:13 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 55BA516A401 for ; Sun, 2 Apr 2006 00:11:13 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from security@yourdot-mail.com) Received: from jupiter.nswebhost.com (jupiter.nswebhost.com [66.246.252.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C869343D64 for ; Sun, 2 Apr 2006 00:11:08 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from security@yourdot-mail.com) Received: from 55-214.dial.nortenet.pt ([212.13.55.214]:35642 helo=[192.168.1.13]) by jupiter.nswebhost.com with esmtpa (Exim 4.52) id 1FPqBW-0000SU-9S; Sat, 01 Apr 2006 18:11:14 -0600 Message-ID: <442F1698.5050500@yourdot-mail.com> Date: Sun, 02 Apr 2006 01:11:04 +0100 From: Carlos Silva User-Agent: Thunderbird 1.5 (Windows/20051201) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: "Jin Guojun [VFFS]" References: <442DFEE5.4040407@yourdot-mail.com> <442E82F2.8040702@bah.homeip.net> <442EACAF.4010606@yourdot-mail.com> <442EAEF1.5050307@bah.homeip.net> <442EB292.1000007@yourdot-mail.com> <442F15C6.4070409@lbl.gov> In-Reply-To: <442F15C6.4070409@lbl.gov> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Antivirus-Scanner: Clean mail though you should still use an Antivirus X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: Primary Hostname - jupiter.nswebhost.com X-AntiAbuse: Original Domain - freebsd.org X-AntiAbuse: Originator/Caller UID/GID - [0 0] / [47 12] X-AntiAbuse: Sender Address Domain - yourdot-mail.com X-Source: X-Source-Args: X-Source-Dir: Cc: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Subject: Re: cups X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 02 Apr 2006 00:11:13 -0000 hi, I have printed a plain text file with lpr.. If you just need to print text to this printer via CUPS, you do not need any filter or (may not need a pdd either, but I need to verify it). By default, CUPS convert text to postscript, then to printer coded file via a proper pdd filter. That you got errors may be because your printer probably received a postscript coded file or even further converted to some common HP coded file, which may not suitable for every HP printer. To remove a text filter, either change /usr/local/etc/cups/mime.convs something like application/vnd.cups-text 0 texttops to application/vnd.cups-text 0 - "-" means do nothing; or change /usr/local/libexec/cups/filter/texttops mv texttops text2ps echo "cat -" > texttops chmod +x texttops If this works, this only fixes your text print problem. You may still not be able to print other files, such graphics or postscript files. You need to find a proper filter for this printer, maybe try it via "gs -sDEVICE=ijs --sOutputFile=/tmp/test A_POSTSCRIPT_FILE" or other filters (in -sDEVICE= line) to convert a postscript file to /tmp/test file, and try to print /tmp/test file to your printer via lpr command. If you can find a working filter in gs, then find a match filter in CUPS. Then reverse the change made above back, and install proper pdd for CUPS. FreeBSD has nve(4) driver for adapters like this, but it doesn't support nForce Pro chipset yet. Linux treats this card like the following: forcedeth.c: Reverse Engineered nForce ethernet driver. Version 0.48. ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [APCH] enabled at IRQ 23 ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:0a.0[A] -> Link [APCH] -> GSI 23 (level, low) -> IRQ 185 PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:0a.0 to 64 eth1: forcedeth.c: subsystem: 0108e:5348 bound to 0000:00:0a.0 The second adapter is actually Broadcom's Tigon3 [partno(BCM95721) rev 4101 PHY(5750)]. It is supported by bge(4). PS I failed to make SATA-RAID running. It's not an issue for me since I consider all the software RAIDs to be just evil. > > Thanks > Sam. > > >>Pls see below for more info: > >>http://store.sun.com/CMTemplate/CEServlet?process=SunStore&cmdViewProduct_CP&catid=138714 > >> From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Apr 2 08:34:11 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9483516A422 for ; Sun, 2 Apr 2006 08:34:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from samwun@telpacific.com.au) Received: from amailsyd.tel-pacific.com (amailsyd.tel-pacific.com [203.88.255.61]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EB30B43D6B for ; Sun, 2 Apr 2006 08:34:06 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from samwun@telpacific.com.au) Received: from [203.122.119.184] (helo=[10.0.1.1]) by amailsyd.tel-pacific.com with esmtp (Exim 4.44) id 1FPy0L-0002pi-4n for freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org; Sun, 02 Apr 2006 18:32:13 +1000 Message-ID: <442F8C76.3000701@telpacific.com.au> Date: Sun, 02 Apr 2006 18:33:58 +1000 From: sam User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.6 (Windows/20050716) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 CC: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org References: In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=KOI8-R; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Re: Sun Fire X2100 Server X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: acord@telpacific.com.au List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 02 Apr 2006 08:34:11 -0000 dima wrote: >>>>I want to installl FreeBSD 6.x in this server. >>>>Does anyone know whether FreeBSD Sparc version runs very well in this >>>>machine? >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>X2100 isn't a SPARC, but AMD64. Thanks! > > -mi Mikhail, I've had a similar problem (or probably still have). Someone answered to my post this might be a SATA-cable problem and this seems to be true. As far as I'm aware of the ICRC error message might be a hint to an interface problem. The system(s) I was seeing this kind of problem are providing SATA on board (VIA 6420). Whenever the problem occurs, the drive isn't being seen by the OS anymore until a reboot (atacontrol list doesn't show the failed drive anymore) and SMART shows DMA error and ICRC error messages. I really guess it's a cable problem. On the other side I've seen this problem only on RELENG_6_0 systems (but this does not say it's a FreeBSD problem). AsRock (the mainboard manufacturer) also asked me to change the SATA cable and they told me to change the disks jumper settings of the failed drive to run on SATA150 (if it's a SATA300 disk). Because my troubled box is remote, I've been unable to check those both suggestions. Probably you may check that first if it solves your problem. The problem is from the foomatic-gswrapper, which is invoked from /usr/local/etc/foomatic/filter.conf by setting either "execpath" in this file or PATH (path) to include the path where foomatic-gswrapper lives. This could be a purpose for involving hpijs, which I don't have -- see output at the end -- maybe not. Below is the code in foomatic-rip to get foomatic-gswrapper involved: # Get execution path from config file $execpath = $conf{execpath} if defined $conf{execpath}; $ENV{'PATH'} = $execpath; for (split(':', $ENV{'PATH'})) { if (-x "$_/foomatic-gswrapper") { $havewrapper=1; last; } } I think you are close to what you need to fix, and I probably will stop here. It's basically using a trick to make any messages that gs sends to stdout be sent to stderr rather than into the file sent to the printer so that the user can see them. It is doing this by telling gs to write it's output to /dev/fd/3 and then in the shell telling it to open /dev/fd/3 as a clone of the current stdout ('3>&1' does this). It then changes stdout to point to the same descriptor as stderr ('1>&2'). This seems perfectly fine. I don't have any ideas on the OP's problem with cups though. I still use lpr with apsfilter myself. -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve" = http://www.FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Apr 3 23:35:58 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6130816A423 for ; Mon, 3 Apr 2006 23:35:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wwwrun@saufgemeinschaft.de) Received: from dd10604.kasserver.com (dd10604.kasserver.com [83.133.51.118]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 33FEC43D4C for ; Mon, 3 Apr 2006 23:35:57 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from wwwrun@saufgemeinschaft.de) Received: by dd10604.kasserver.com (Postfix, from userid 30) id 8EB45CFE85; Tue, 4 Apr 2006 01:29:27 +0200 (CEST) To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org From: Wells Fargo Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Message-Id: <20060403232927.8EB45CFE85@dd10604.kasserver.com> Date: Tue, 4 Apr 2006 01:29:27 +0200 (CEST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Subject: ATTENTION: Your account has been restricted X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 03 Apr 2006 23:35:58 -0000 [1]Wells Fargo Home Page Wells Fargo Home Page [2]Talking ATM Locations [3]Skip Navigation to go to main content of this page Dear customers: Wells Fargo is constantly working to increase security for all Online Banking users.
