FreeBSD/i386 doesn't support EFI yet, only FreeBSD/ia64 does. Are you sure the motherboard requires EFI and doesn't also provide a BIOS interface of some sort (perhaps on top of EFI)? If it does that, then FreeBSD/i386 will boot fine using the BIOS interface. -- John Baldwin From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jun 12 14:00:12 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 80D6616A481; Mon, 12 Jun 2006 14:00:12 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from patpro@patpro.net) Received: from smtp.univ-lyon2.fr (smtp.univ-lyon2.fr [159.84.143.102]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DFDDF43D49; Mon, 12 Jun 2006 14:00:11 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from patpro@patpro.net) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by smtp.univ-lyon2.fr (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7904F3B3D47E; Mon, 12 Jun 2006 16:00:10 +0200 (CEST) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at univ-lyon2.fr Received: from smtp.univ-lyon2.fr ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (smtp.univ-lyon2.fr [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id dH266Uv-KNu6; Mon, 12 Jun 2006 16:00:09 +0200 (CEST) Received: from [159.84.142.99] (unknown [159.84.142.99]) by smtp.univ-lyon2.fr (Postfix) with ESMTP id 847B63B3D475; Mon, 12 Jun 2006 16:00:09 +0200 (CEST) In-Reply-To: <200606120904.50256.jhb@freebsd.org> References: <58A8328D-826A-4800-BDFF-DB67ADF275A3@patpro.net> <200606120904.50256.jhb@freebsd.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v750) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Message-Id: <41ADB1F2-A178-4DB2-AD2D-595C2EEEE0FC@patpro.net> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Patrick Proniewski Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2006 16:00:08 +0200 To: John Baldwin X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.750) Cc: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Subject: Re: i386 EFI motherboard and FreeBSD 6 X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2006 14:00:12 -0000 On 12 juin 06, at 15:04, John Baldwin wrote: >> I'm thinking about buying an Intel motherboard with Xeon LV >> (Sossaman) to run FreeBSD. Well, in fact I'm not sure, the documentation for motherboard SE7520BB2D2 mentions both BIOS and EFI, and I was not aware one could mix both on a motherboard. I've just asked the support at Intel about the Bios/EFI mix.
