They are NC373i Multifunction Gigabit Network Adapters I see theat the BCE drivers support the HP NC370i adapters , but can;t find any reference to the NC373i. Does anybody know if these adapters will work, or if I will need to buy additional cards? It looks like support for the E200i SAS controller is provided by the CISS device, so I think that should be ok. We have various generations of the Proliant DL360 (G2, G3, G4 and G4p), and all of them have members of the Broadcom BCM570x (5701, 5703, 5704, 5704C) onboard. All of them are supported by the bge(4) driver. We're running 4-stable and 6-stable (6.2-PRERELEASE) without problems. We don't have any G5 machines yet, but I would be surprised if they changed the onboard NICs to an entire different family. > It looks like support for the E200i SAS controller is provided by the > CISS device, so I think that should be ok. Well, I can confirm that the on-board controller in the G2, G3, G4 and G4p works fine with FreeBSD -stable (4 and 6), and it's indeed a CISS device. According to the dmesg you provided, your controller is detected as a "generic ATA controller", thus possibly it might run into some "compatibility" mode indeed. You might want to try if using 6.2 or 7-CURRENT solves your problem. You could check this without actually installing it. Just download a bootable ISO and checkout the dmesg using the scroll lock button. I have tried to run FreeBSD 6.2 for amd64 and 6.2 for i386 on a Dell E521 with no real luck. Currently, I am running 6.2 for i386 and just got done with a cvsup and a build/installworld with no changes. The list of issues appears to be the same that others have already posted about but was looking for some direction on where to look for answers. Since I installed i386 many issues have been resolved, but the following still remain: 1. System panics if any USB device is plugged in during boot - I know there is a bug open on this but I have not seen any progress or potential fixes 2. The DVD-ROM is not recognized 3. The sound card is not recognized 4. After getting the box to boot and plugging in the mouse, my window manager is slow and unresponsive. The only problems I had up to now with the DL380 G5 were unrelated to FreeBSD. I'm still struggling with iLO2 getting the remote console to run in a reliable way, probably the JVM of my browser has to wrong patch level :-/ OTOH hardware monitoring now works out of the box, even when no OS is running. Thus, no HP Foundation agents are required. All fans and sensor data can be pulled using the web interface or a SMASH shell. Furthermore I still have to check the iSCSI feature of the NICs which I do not expect being supported by FreeBSD. -cs From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Nov 8 21:36:14 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1B5E616A417 for ; Wed, 8 Nov 2006 21:36:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jvd@delinocci.com) Received: from rwcrmhc11.comcast.net (rwcrmhc11.comcast.net [216.148.227.151]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BA00F43D72 for ; Wed, 8 Nov 2006 21:36:05 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jvd@delinocci.com) Received: from x (c-24-16-99-67.hsd1.wa.comcast.net[24.16.99.67]) by comcast.net (rwcrmhc11) with SMTP id <20061108213603m1100ng57qe>; Wed, 8 Nov 2006 21:36:03 +0000 From: "JVD" To: References: In-Reply-To: Date: Wed, 8 Nov 2006 13:36:13 -0800 Message-ID: <001601c7037d$ea19e770$be4db650$@com> MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0 Thread-Index: AccDXWCa+vgOSmCWRGu64it2tsjqEAAHpHQQ Content-Language: en-us Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Subject: RE: Dell E521 Threads X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 08 Nov 2006 21:36:14 -0000 Not to be replying to my own thread and what not, but I came up with a temporary solution to the usb/mouse/wm issues I asked about. Figured there were enough people reporting issues on these Dells that I'd share my finding. Following the advice in another thread I was reading I disabled the front and rear1 usb port baus via the bios. If you plug your usb keyboard into the one bay you left enabled on the port farthest away from the motherboard you can boot into the OS with no panic's. Plugging a mouse into the second available port still causes the panic however. Since I have a wireless keyboard/mouse combo, I took the keyboard port and plugged it into a usb->keyboard/ps2 Y adapter, converted the usb mouse to ps2 and plugged it into the Y adapter as well and plugged that adapter into the one usb port that doesn't seem to crash the box. Now I can boot into the OS with no panics and I end up with a working keyboard and mouse. I didn't test with a normal keyboard and mouse but I'd imagine you could get the same effect. The next problem I ran into after this was xorg. I found that instead of having moused use /dev/sysmouse if it was launched directly to /dev/ums0 my mouse functions in my window manager were gone. In order for this to work you have to add 'moused_nondefault_enable="NO"' to /etc/rc.conf to stop moused from launching on boot and causing xorg to crash on startup because it can't connect to /dev/ums0. Now this _may_ be an unnecessary step, but since doing it I haven't have any issue with my mouse and so I'm sticking with it. I did this on i386 6.2 with xorg, wdm launching e16 But if anyone has any clues on the dvd rom and sound card I'd love some help, thanks -jvd From: JVD [mailto:jvd@delinocci.com] Sent: Wednesday, November 08, 2006 9:43 AM To: 'freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org' Subject: Dell E521 Threads Sorry if some of these questions have already been answered, but I have been digging around and can't find any actual answers. I don't think they're shipping yet, so I doubt anybody has actually tried it. The machine has Opteron 2200 series CPUs with a Broadcom HT-2100 and HT-1000 chipset, according to the spec sheet. That would surprise me alot. :) Actually i think Core 2 Duo will run just fine. But like with all new hardware going in-production, you should first conduct extensive testing. Such as: memory and CPU stresstests (prime cpu stresstests/memtest86) and actual tests with the version of FreeBSD you're going to run (i take it you'll want to run AMD64?). > I really need to use this server for high load production use and > it¹s not acceptable for me to have the server running into any kind of > problems, crashes, or whatever else. If you were to consider Pentium D you really should be looking at AMD Athlon 64 X2 instead, since they outbeat Pentium D in just about every way. But with Core 2 Duo it's different; they perform sometimes up to two times better than the Pentium D and uses significantly less power. Although the idle usage is still twice that of comparable Athlon 64 X2 processors. By the way i would recommand the E6600 version instead, if you require alot of processing power. They also have twice as many cache. - Veronica From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 11 19:30:47 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9245116A632 for ; Sat, 11 Nov 2006 19:30:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from beech@alaskaparadise.com) Received: from stargate.alaskaparadise.com (114-103-74-65.gci.net [65.74.103.114]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6A58343D5F for ; Sat, 11 Nov 2006 19:30:30 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from beech@alaskaparadise.com) Received: by stargate.alaskaparadise.com (Postfix, from userid 0) id 8B48145D5; Sat, 11 Nov 2006 10:30:29 -0900 (AKST) From: Beech Rintoul Organization: Alaska Paradise Travel To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Date: Sat, 11 Nov 2006 10:30:25 -0900 User-Agent: KMail/1.9.4 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200611111030.27608.beech@alaskaparadise.com> Subject: HP 1020 X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 11 Nov 2006 19:30:47 -0000 Is this printer supported? The material is new. Here some information about it: - Acer Aspire 3002WLMI - Mobile AMD Sempron processor 2800+ - 15.4 WXGA wide TFT LCD - 60GB HDD - DVD-Dual (Support DVD+R Double Layer/DVD+RW) - 512MB DDR - 802.11b/g wireless LAN To use my DVD/CD burner, i compiled my kernel with these parameters: # --------------- # Kernel. # --------------- # Options options CD9660 # ISO 9660 Filesystem # ATA and ATAPI devices device atapicd # ATAPI CDROM drives # SCSI peripherals device scbus # SCSI bus (required for SCSI) device da # Direct Access (disks) # ATAPI/CAM device atapicam if you looks the dmesg file, i obtain these lines: acd0: DVDR at ata1-master UDMA33 acd0: FAILURE - PREVENT_ALLOW timed out acd0: FAILURE - PREVENT_ALLOW timed out acd0: FAILURE - READ_SUBCHANNEL timed out acd0: FAILURE - PAUSE ILLEGAL REQUEST asc=0xb9 ascq=0x00 Well, after i activated the dma for the dvd/cd burner with this line in my loader.conf: hw.ata.atapi_dma="1" After the new kernel is installed, and the system is rebooted, i modified my devfs.conf file with the good permissions, i think: own xpt0 olivier perm xpt0 0660 own acd0 olivier perm acd0 0660 link acd0 cdrom link acd0 dvd then, i tested my dvd/cd burner with xmms. I push on the play button, the cdrom engages and after 1 second, more nothing. Second test, i used mplayer to look my dvd film and nothing. I don't know what happened with it. Perhaps FreeBSD doesn't support my Slimtype DVDRW ? But if i use the atacontrol list command, i have this: ATA channel 1: Master: acd0 ATA/ATAPI revision 5 Slave: no device present It is terrible, when you cannot use your material. With Microsoft Windows, I do not have any problem and on the same laptop. Estranged no ? But i want to stay on FreeBSD to find a solution. My situation is delicate. Could you help me about this ? Thank you very much.
