Thats all i will list since this i have a feeling is where the problem is. The errors I recieve are (every time ive tried to install so far i get) unable to make new root file system on /dev/ad0sla. Command returned status 36. and Unable to find device node for /dev/ad0slb in /dev. The creation of file systems will be aborted. I get an error stating that my hard drive dimensions arent right and ive tried everything from changing them manualy in the bios and setting them in fdisk to just letting it be and trying to install without monkeying with it. Please help. There were no problems with the installation. I then customized the kernel and rebooted. Again, no problems. I shutdown the machine and mounted it in a rack. I powered it on and walked away. It never came up. When I went to look, the boot loader prompt had been counting down (from 10) and was stuck on 8. The machine was hard locked and I had to reset to recover. The next boot proceeded normally. During the installation of my other three machines, and through various upgrades to 6.1, this lockup seems to happen about 50% of the time, and happens whether or not you select an item during the countdown, or let it countdown by itself. The SuperMicro SuperServer 5013-series does not exhibit this problem. Once past this loader-only issue, the machines have all run flawlessly. >How-To-Repeat: Unknown. Rebooting with 'fastboot', 'shutdown -r now', 'shutdown -p now' all have what seems to be the same instance of failure on boot. I cannot provide a solid repeatable sequence. I can say that with help of a debugging-enabled loader I can provide an engineer with statistics from both a successful and unsuccessful boots in an attempt to help locate the problem. >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Feb 24 06:20:10 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1EFBB16A420 for ; Fri, 24 Feb 2006 06:20:10 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C6CED43D6A for ; Fri, 24 Feb 2006 06:20:09 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k1O6K9WC075199 for ; Fri, 24 Feb 2006 06:20:09 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id k1O6K9NI075198; Fri, 24 Feb 2006 06:20:09 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Fri, 24 Feb 2006 06:20:09 GMT Message-Id: <200602240620.k1O6K9NI075198@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: david Cc: Subject: Re: i386/71538: [install] multi-homed install trashes existing system & Freebsd will not boot [5.3beta3] X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: david List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 24 Feb 2006 06:20:10 -0000 The following reply was made to PR i386/71538; it has been noted by GNATS.
