UNIX/FreeBSD Systems Administrator

We're looking for a skilled FreeBSD Administrator to join our fast 
growing Oxford-based company to take responsibility of our server 
cluster. You should have some commercial experience managing production 
systems and experience with FreeBSD, be comfortable working remotely with 
co-located servers and experience with network security and backup 
systems including planning and recovery. You will be responsible for 
installing, configuring, securing and maintaining our existing network as 
well as new servers as required.

Skills/Reponsibilities:

* Commercial FreeBSD experience
* Network and system security
* Backup/recovery management and disaster recovery provisions
* Managing company systems such as email and intranet services
* Experience with high volume email servers
* Experience with PostgreSQL administration would be very favourable
* Perl and/or shell scripting skills would be helpful
* Web services such as Apache, SSL, mod_perl, Squid/Web Proxies, DNS, 
PHP, Mysql

* Experience with high throughput and high availability email services 
and performance tuning would be very advantageous.
* Programming experience (C or Perl mainly, but also PHP, Python, Ruby, 
etc) would also be helpful.


Personal Characteristics

* A self starter who is willing to learn and take ownership of project in 
a key role for Adestra.  Able to work with limited supervision and show 
initiative where relevant, the individual will be confident, bright and 
happy to share and discuss ideas with others.

* The ideal candidate will have excellent English and a strong telephone 
manner, they must be comfortable dealing with people at all levels of an 
organisation and be familiar with some marketing terminology.

* A good humoured team player, the ideal candidate will take pride in 
their work and be able to thrive in a fairly pressurised environment

Salary & hours of work

* The role will be based in Adestra's Oxford offices. The role will run 
for an initial trial period of 3 months, and if successful will continue 
on a permanent basis.

* You will be working primarily out of our Oxford office with our 
development team to provide services and support for our staff and 
clients. Occasional visits to our hosting provider in London will be 
necessary as well as possible out-of-hours callouts.

* Salary negotiable depending on skills and experience.
