For more details about the hacked usb/uftdi.c driver see the old thread 5.4-REL && pcmcia card Option N.V. Fusion UMTS Quad-GPRS The remaining problems are: 1 because of the lack of documentation I don't see/know any way to disable the book-in into the UMTS network; maybe there is no other way at all than pulling out the PCMCIA card from the slot; after providing the pin once it remains and this causes a little problem in the pppd chat script: '' AT OK\r\n at_opsys=1,2 # # We can not send down the PIN twice, it gives 'ERROR' 2nd time; # so we're just expecting an 'O' as response which is part of 'OK' # and 'ERROR' as well, what a dirty hack. :-(( # How we can logout the SIM from UMTS? # OK\r\n at+cpin="xxxxxxxx" O AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","web.vodafone.de" OK\r\n ATD*99***1# 'CONNECT 384000' ie. if you start pppd again (after terminating it with SIGTERM) the chat will complain with '+CME ERROR: operation not allowed' on sending the pin because the card is already booked in into UMTS; 2 pulling out the PCMCIA card gives always a PANIC with the messages: uhub5: detached usb5: detached ohci0: detached All threads purged from cuaU0 All threads purged from ttyU0 and after some seconds ucom0: detached (null): at uhub6 port 1 (addr 2) disconnected Fatal trap 12: page fault ... current process: 49 (cbb0) OK, one could live with that and bring the system to halt before pulling out the card. I am basically a Linux enthusiast. I decided to try some distros and then I got hold of FreeBSD 5.2.1 and PC-BSD. I could install both within 10 mins each. But FreeBSD won't give me graphical login. I found that I had to recompile my kernel (after I posted this problem in FreeBSD forums). Anyway, let me tell you this first that I had a Matsushita DVD-Dual drive from where I run the CDs. Anyway, then there was a problem with the Dual drive and the service center people replaced it -- this time with a Slimtype DVD Dual. But now the problem starts -- I can't install FreeBSD 5.2.1 and PCBSD. I mean, it formats the drive etc; but when it comes to transfering the files, it can't. I doubted a hardware compatibility issue and after we tried a lot of combinations in the service center, the people said it was a mother board problem. They replaced the mother board and still the problem persisted. Then they replaced the Slimtype with a Pioneer DVD Dual and this time, I could get FreeBSD 5.2.1 and PCBSD install. But the problem is that FreeBSD 6.1 won't be installed. I downloaded the ISO from your ftp site. When it starts with "Transferring GENERIC into /boot", the transfer rate is 0.2-1KB/sec and then it says write failure. Please help me out. No one is replying to my queries in the forum. Has it got something to do with my DVD drive? I can't understand when I can get FreeBSD 5.2.1 installed from the Pioneer DVD Dual, what's the problem with the FreeBSD 6.1 that I downloaded? It is 505 MB in size. I think it is the right size. I would also like to request you to kindly give me some contact from where I can get the latest release of FreeBSD. If it was the problem because of downloading, then it will happen in subsequent downloads. The details of the Acer laptop can be got here : http://www.acer.co.in/products/notebooks/aspire3003.html Thanks and regards, Amitakhya Phukan. =================== Amitakhya Phukan Training Block Room No.F-10 C-DAC(Formerly NCST) 68 Electronics City Bangalore-560100 Cell:+91-98868-08276 E-mail:amitakhya@gmail.com,amitakhya@yahoo.com From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 3 06:50:39 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B546D16A47C for ; Mon, 3 Jul 2006 06:50:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from k.yelizarov@ru.faberlic.com) Received: from border1.faberlic.com (border1.faberlic.com [212.74.229.226]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D7FB543D68 for ; Mon, 3 Jul 2006 06:50:34 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from k.yelizarov@ru.faberlic.com) Received: by border1.faberlic.com (Postfix, from userid 1002) id 367F67305B; Mon, 3 Jul 2006 10:50:15 +0400 (MSD) Received: from [192.168.18.73] (unknown [192.168.18.73]) by border1.faberlic.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 19BE772E20 for ; Mon, 3 Jul 2006 10:50:15 +0400 (MSD) Message-ID: <44A8BE1A.3030208@ru.faberlic.com> Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2006 10:50:02 +0400 From: Kirill Yelizarov User-Agent: Thunderbird 1.5.0.2 (X11/20060425) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=KOI8-R; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: pccard problem in FreeBSD6.1 X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2006 06:50:39 -0000 I enabled debug information. You can then install the CD. The problem is that the installed kernel still has firewire support builtin. So when you boot for the first time, you have to tell the loader that the kernel has to be loaded from the CD. unload load kernel_cd Note that you might have to specify that the root is actually the CD. Once your PC has booted, just replace the kernel on the disk with the kernel from the CD. Of course, firewire support is disabled. 2) I have worked a fix but didn't have time to test it yet. If you give me a week, I will test it, send-pr my modifications and then make a small bootable CD image. Firewire should be fully supported. The test resulted in having interrupt storm on irq:11 whenever acpi is enabled during the boot process. I have tried to disable apic from my kernel but that didn't help, same results. I know interrupt storms can be "ok" to ignore but I guess that is not an option in my case as it is disabling my hard drive!
