I'm seeing it again on 6.1. After fresh install, and then syncing src, buildworld will fail on usr.bin/lex . The cause for this appears to be that the mkskel.sh file in the usr.bin/lex directory has a date year of 1969. I touched that file, and now build progresses normally. Here is where build dies prior to touching the mkskel.sh file: > ===> usr.bin/lex (depend) > lex -t -is /usr/src/usr.bin/lex/scan.l > scan.c > yacc -d -o parse.c /usr/src/usr.bin/lex/parse.y > make: don't know how to make mkskel.sh. I haven't seen that when cross-building (or building natively) for sun4v - however, my tree is from perforce. File a bug. I intend to fix any sparc64 bugs that still apply to sun4v (most don't, but this would) before releasing 6.2. -Kip > There's been a problem existing in freebsd/sparc64 since the 5.x > days. And still stroking her little shoulder, he kissed her on the roots of her hair and neck, and let her go. "The carriage is ready," said Matvey; "but there's some one to see you with a petition." "Been here long?" asked Stepan Arkadyevitch. "Half an hour." "How many times have I told you to tell me at once?" "One must let you drink your coffee in peace, at least," said Matvey, in the affectionately gruff tone with which it was impossible to be angry. "Well, show the person up at once," said Oblonsky, frowning with vexation. The petitioner, the widow of a staff captain Kalinin, came with a request impossible and unreasonable; but Stepan Arkadyevitch, as he generally did, made her sit down, heard her to the end attentively without interrupting her, and gave her detailed advice as to how and to whom to apply, and even wrote her, in his large, sprawling, good and legible hand, a confident and fluent little note to a personage who might be of use to her. I think the list you want is freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org. There is no "sparc" port. The U5 is sparc64-* hardware. FreeBSD runs very well on the Ultra5, but not in the function the U5 was intended for by Sun (workstation). There is no VGA console/X11 support to my knowledge. Performance is as to be expected for a 360mhz RISC chip. I recommend replacing the original IDE disks with a 7200 RPM drive and an ATA100 capable cable to get additional speed. I think the controller is limited to UDMA3 or UDMA2, but even still its better than the OEM drive. ~BAS > What do you think about the performance of FreeBSD/Sparc Ultra 5? > > Thanks ! > > a.m.rossi > University of Pavia > Italia > > -- > ...In January 1998, David Garibaldi rejoined Tower of Power and continues > touring with them. > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-sparc64 > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-sparc64-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" > l8* -lava x.25 - minix - bitnet - plan9 - 110 bps - ASR 33 - base8 From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Thu May 25 12:26:30 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6F91116A421; Thu, 25 May 2006 12:26:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from lavalamp@spiritual-machines.org) Received: from mail.digitalfreaks.org (arbitor.digitalfreaks.org [216.151.95.158]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2447743D49; Thu, 25 May 2006 12:26:29 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from lavalamp@spiritual-machines.org) Received: by mail.digitalfreaks.org (Postfix, from userid 1022) id 6B9E91711D; Thu, 25 May 2006 08:26:30 -0400 (EDT) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mail.digitalfreaks.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 637141711A; Thu, 25 May 2006 08:26:30 -0400 (EDT) Date: Thu, 25 May 2006 08:26:30 -0400 (EDT) From: "Brian A. I have a similar system (Ultra 5 333MHz) running FreeBSD 6.1 quite nicely. (I actually installed 6.0 on it and have been doing source upgrades). I don't have a console on it at the moment but when I did the video worked fine in both the console and in X. I'll attach a dmesg, my kernel config and my xorg.conf in case you're interested. I did have a couple glitches with it but they seem to be resolved now; search the archive for details.
