(www.houfug.org) Most technology clubs in Munich get a much higher turn out when there's a tech talk/ presentation associated, & not just the normal monthly drinking. I guess finding speakers wouldn't be so hard if we organisers were smarter about finding BSD related presentations others have done somewhere in the world, & then identifying someone localy knowledgeable in that area to represent it. It's an offputting amount of work to prepare a presentation, unpaid. Easier if someone else has prepared it already, nicer feeling if preparing, knowing peple globaly might benefit, not just localy ?. Maybe we should be co-operating more, a central repository or some such. At least BAFUG make their videos fetchable, that's a start :-) PS for group Berkeley in Munich: http://berklix.org/bim/ -- Julian Stacey. Consultant Unix Net & Sys. We've been going in Manchester now for a few years. We[*] specifically decided it would be: a) Informal b) No presentations c) Not strictly about BSD It's quite laid back, and turnout really depends on how busy we are. We have had 8-9 people in the past, but the core tends to be about 4 of us who regularly turn up. At some point we might get our act together and do something more formal, but who wants to sit in front of PowerPoint one evening when you've been working all day? Having a casual chat with like-minded people just seems to be more attractive. [*] - I bullied Sam Smith into making it this way to be fair. I think he was open to something different to the LUG meets, but I thought it would be better if we went for something that felt more like a 2600 meet without the criminal element. :-) From owner-freebsd-user-groups@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Aug 1 22:54:04 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-user-groups@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-user-groups@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1D7D216A4E5 for ; Tue, 1 Aug 2006 22:54:04 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from arb@aaa-comms.com) Received: from ws6-1.us4.outblaze.com (ws6-1.us4.outblaze.com [205.158.62.196]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id F1D3F43D69 for ; Tue, 1 Aug 2006 22:53:58 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from arb@aaa-comms.com) Received: (qmail 25604 invoked from network); 1 Aug 2006 22:53:57 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO compaq) (arb@aaa-comms.com@86.27.67.241) by ws6-1.us4.outblaze.com with SMTP; 1 Aug 2006 22:53:57 -0000 From: "aaa comms" To: "'Paul Robinson'" , "'Julian H.
