Background: running mplayer freezes X. (just X, I can ssh and reboot the box) Running mplayer -vo x11 (instead of the default that uses Xv extension) works, but uses much CPU. I understand that for Xv, XVmc to work, DRI must be enabled. However, although the port graphics/dri includes a unichrome_dri.so, I do not see the corresponding drm kernel module in /boot/loader. (I would assume it would be unichrome.ko) The question is then, is anybody working on this module ? How hard is it to port the linux one over to FreeBSD ? Who "owns" the current drm kernel modules and how can I assist in porting the unichrome drm module ? bruno From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Mar 21 09:10:21 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1B62E16A41F; Tue, 21 Mar 2006 09:10:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dejan.lesjak@ijs.si) Received: from mail.ijs.si (mail.ijs.si [193.2.4.66]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9179943D48; Tue, 21 Mar 2006 09:10:19 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from dejan.lesjak@ijs.si) Received: from localhost (mail.ijs.si [193.2.4.66]) by mail.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 80D4517B96A; Tue, 21 Mar 2006 10:10:18 +0100 (CET) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at ijs.si Received: from mail.ijs.si ([193.2.4.66]) by localhost (patsy.ijs.si [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id AGnNY+CqwmUm; Tue, 21 Mar 2006 10:10:17 +0100 (CET) Received: from brenta.ijs.si (brenta.ijs.si [194.249.156.1]) by mail.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6DC9017B953; Tue, 21 Mar 2006 10:10:16 +0100 (CET) Received: from f9pc04.ijs.si (f9pc04.ijs.si [194.249.156.4]) by brenta.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6458645A5FFB; Tue, 21 Mar 2006 10:10:16 +0100 (CET) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by f9pc04.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4B2B139C87EE; Tue, 21 Mar 2006 10:10:16 +0100 (CET) From: Dejan Lesjak To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Date: Tue, 21 Mar 2006 10:10:15 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.9.1 References: In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200603211010.15801.dejan.lesjak@ijs.si> Cc: x11@freebsd.org, "Kirby Kuehl \(kkuehl\)" Subject: Re: xorg 6.9 patch X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 21 Mar 2006 09:10:21 -0000 On Monday 20 March 2006 23:56, Kirby Kuehl (kkuehl) wrote: > http://xorg.freedesktop.org/releases/X11R6.9.0/patches/x11r6.9.0-geteuid.di >ff > > Please apply the above patch: I'm already testing it, thanks for notice! This reminder is created automatically and does not (yet) have a way to know if a PR fixing the problem has been submitted. Please do *NOT* send your response to me directly; I do not necessarily have time to commit your fix; please instead submit a PR via 'send-pr' so it doesn't get lost. Problems are usually of two types: 1. The software package has been upgraded and the version in the port has been removed. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade the port to the most current version of the software package. If you are a FreeBSD committer, then you can just upgrade the port directly. If not, you should create the updated port on your own machine, test it (and maybe even run "portlint" on it), and then use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -uNr old-port updated-port". If you added or deleted any files, please make an explicit note of it. 2. The mirror site being used no longer contains the software package in question, or no longer exists. Solutions include: a) If there are other mirror sites, just remove the bad site from the list. (Make sure that what appears to be a bad site isn't actually a problem of type 1, upgrade) b) If the README or other support files in the software documentation mention where to get the software package, use one of those sites. c) Use a search engine to find another place to get the original DISTFILES. Make sure that you don't pick a FreeBSD distfiles mirror -- if you can't find any other places where the file exists, it can be a LOCAL_PORT or you can simply comment out the MASTER_SITES= line, with a comment explaining why. Once you have a solution, use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -u" of the Makefile. Note that this isn't an urgent issue, as people who try to build the port now will just fall back to the FreeBSD distfiles mirror. Please just put it on your list to do and get to it when you have time. These messages will continue to arrive twice a month until the fix is committed, as a reminder. Thanks, Bill "distfiles" Fenner. Can anyone confirm that ATI Radeon X550 GPU works with FreeBSD 6.x, x-org 6.9, and DRI enabled, and that the performance is decent in multimedia applications (video playback, SDL games)? Thanks! Yes. xorg-fonts-miscbitmaps is the [more or less] xorg equivalent to XFree86-fonts-defaultBitmaps.
