I have been using TinyBSD the past few weeks and realize the amazing opportunities at hand. My situation: i have a NFS server hosting /usr/ports so i can add ports to an embedded board when i want. (www/cherokee as of right now) I tried installing by mounting the flashcard on a working fbsd system and using PREFIX=/mnt/embed/usr/local , but then I am left with /mnt/whatever/ before everything in my config files which proved to be a huge PITA if you are installing anything with a few dependencies. I had to put a few binaries (xargs, which, etc) on the TinyBSD system but not I am getting errors when the port does a ./.configure complaining about gcc (/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc) Is there a way to compile libgcc with TinyBSD? Or should i start sticking with regular FreeBSD and trim it down from there? Any suggestions are welcome.. thanks -- Lyle Scott, III http://www.portcitycs.com portcitycs@gmail.com |#| 910-231-0906 From owner-freebsd-embedded@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Dec 6 02:44:18 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-embedded@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0286E16A41A for ; Thu, 6 Dec 2007 02:44:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from portcitycs@gmail.com) Received: from nz-out-0506.google.com (nz-out-0506.google.com [64.233.162.234]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B345D13C45D for ; Thu, 6 Dec 2007 02:44:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from portcitycs@gmail.com) Received: by nz-out-0506.google.com with SMTP id l8so25129nzf for ; Wed, 05 Dec 2007 18:44:17 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; bh=XUD2unllyPwIdImFWPgSIDN9kAgglsjs6kugEzSO4qE=; b=ZrQmfRugB/EZi5uDzQnmIgPlie/IXGD8XvbSkFUMYYY8BDZinkVU47pKN8HW0pE/uO4m0YFwhSAZFSwoOCuwupJfDRzK58yrTHvc9pJtTRdlgOHhNHNS7UWuoofNYOctXiGqLqp8622p/b65Z18vL7NLJFWatYQEICZlnYA5jdc= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; b=GzUPOLWTt8w8EXiHlBY1I1dUyCq72f+GfzbvN6XjvgbSJfUQLpStoD7by96bmc2bEmV0G/JRzFAjOU7HTE/6Lsg1inycWVOrKqc9UOR4EmIDldEIYRp18ZVIgXL4i84YHlcVkaAeRdBY5HvGPQaSiHMJmkfCK/IdUNTG9Pt+22M= Received: by 10.142.231.7 with SMTP id d7mr1449413wfh.1196909056234; Wed, 05 Dec 2007 18:44:16 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.142.201.4 with HTTP; Wed, 5 Dec 2007 18:44:16 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: <5a1835cd0712051844j443e25b0taf2ea24f3052a6c2@mail.gmail.com> Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2007 21:44:16 -0500 From: "Lyle Scott III" To: freebsd-embedded@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Subject: Disable USB in bios? It will be included and built by default in version 0.5.3 of lcdproc. However, I reveived feedback from one user trying to use picolcd on FreeBSD without success because the device is recognized as an 'uhid' device and therefore lcdproc cannot attach its driver to it. One solution would be to include the picolcd device in the 'quirks' section of the USB driver, but this requires a kernel re-compile. I don't know if it's possible (and if how to) detach the device from 'uhid'. You may try lcdproc-current with the USB modification. I'm always happy about feedback (wether working or not). I decided to go with NanoBSD for this board, so i put nanobsd on my 512 flash and froze right after post. This image loades great on a Soekris board (4511 and 4526) ,... it gives me 2 options in the bootloader, i select 1 and it loads the nanobsd subset great. I go to the alix board, and it freezes right after post: ----------------------- 3PC Engines ALIX.3 v0.98oot. I've tried using a full generic kernel, the TinyBSD wireless kernel, and a trimmed down kernel i use for most of my embedded stuff. you can only do so much in the Alix bios.... i'm not sure where to go with this.
