Press the "scroll lock button", observe that the light comes on and the cursor keys work to scroll the text console. Now depress it again. The scroll lock functionality no longer toggles. The light doesn't extinguish nor is normal output recovered until shutdown. Even kill -9 is insufficient to recover the output. Normal output briefly returns for console messages during shutdown.
