I started hacking away myself, then got sidetracked, then came back and decided to install Windows so I could test the nVidia drivers, then had an sudden inspiration about possible search terms, and that's when I finally hit on this: I managed to solve the problem with a little help from this forum, turned out the cable between the front panel and rear which includes USB and Firewire cables had come lose at some stage - reconnected this and everything was fine again. Thanks. Razz http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/sound-problem-with-sn41g2-vt46229.html Sheesh. Pilot error I guess. Never occurred to me that a loose cable could cause that behavior. Hopefully *this* message will be easier to find for the next schmoe. I'm struggling with configuring Ekiga's (former gnomemeeting) to work with my microphone on FreeBSD-6.2-stable/amd64. Ekiga has a "test settings" buttons (under the configuration druid), but it never plays back anything, that I say into the microphone (I tried two of those already). Ekiga is trying to use /dev/dsp0.0. Is that the right device? Sound(4) says, dsprM.N should be used for input -- do I need to force ekiga into using that? I know, the sound itself works -- including from ekiga -- because I can "test play" the various sounds, that come with the application. Does anyone have ekiga working right on FreeBSD-6 (the port's maintainer has already told me, he no longer uses the software)? Thanks! -mi P.S. I use the snd_ich audio module. My current would also reboot when doing xorgcfg (after I did a clean install of current and ports). No entries in the logfiles did indicate what the reason was. I ended up copying an old xorg.conf and modified the file to accomodate xorg's new /usr/local location. Could you please visit http://people.freebsd.org/~fenner/portsurvey/multimedia@freebsd.org.html and correct the problems listed there? The individual port with a problem is multimedia/lxdvdrip. If you have already corrected the problems and submitted a PR, please accept my thanks and apologies for the delay in getting the fixes into the tree. This reminder is created automatically and does not (yet) have a way to know if a PR fixing the problem has been submitted. Please do *NOT* send your response to me directly; I do not necessarily have time to commit your fix; please instead submit a PR via 'send-pr' so it doesn't get lost. Problems are usually of two types: 1. The software package has been upgraded and the version in the port has been removed. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade the port to the most current version of the software package. If you are a FreeBSD committer, then you can just upgrade the port directly. If not, you should create the updated port on your own machine, test it (and maybe even run "portlint" on it), and then use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -uNr old-port updated-port". If you added or deleted any files, please make an explicit note of it. 2. The mirror site being used no longer contains the software package in question, or no longer exists. Solutions include: a) If there are other mirror sites, just remove the bad site from the list. (Make sure that what appears to be a bad site isn't actually a problem of type 1, upgrade) b) If the README or other support files in the software documentation mention where to get the software package, use one of those sites. c) Use a search engine to find another place to get the original DISTFILES. Make sure that you don't pick a FreeBSD distfiles mirror -- if you can't find any other places where the file exists, it can be a LOCAL_PORT or you can simply comment out the MASTER_SITES= line, with a comment explaining why. Once you have a solution, use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -u" of the Makefile. Note that this isn't an urgent issue, as people who try to build the port now will just fall back to the FreeBSD distfiles mirror. Please just put it on your list to do and get to it when you have time. These messages will continue to arrive twice a month until the fix is committed, as a reminder. Thanks, Bill "distfiles" Fenner. With kernel module source downloaded from here: http://envy24.svobodno.com/driver/av710/old/ It detects as: pcm0: port 0xb800-0xb81f,0xb400-0xb47f irq 22 at device 1.0 on pci2 pcm0: system configuration SubVendorID: 0x1412, SubDeviceID: 0x1724 XIN2 Clock Source: 24.576MHz(96kHz*256) MPU-401 UART(s) #: not implemented ADC #: 1 DAC #: 3 Multi-track converter type: I2S(with volume, 192KHz support, 24bit resolution, ID#0x4) S/PDIF(IN/OUT): 0/1 ID# 0x00 GPIO(mask/dir/state): 0xff0000/0xff0000/0xff0000 This works very well for all 16 bit audio, tested up to 96Khz! However when trying to use 24 or 32 bit mode, the audio has several "clicks" per second constantly when the output appears to reset to 0x0000 momentarily. I have tested with several programs (mplayer, madplay, waveplay, etc) with the same results. (Nb. These cards are very cheap and appear to have an excellent SPDIF output. I appreciate the work that has been done on these drivers so far and I would be happy to talk about donate one to anyone who wants to have a crack at fixing these problems). - Andrew From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jun 23 13:17:22 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: multimedia@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E7BC516A400 for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2007 13:17:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from sebosik@demax.sk) Received: from mail.demax.sk (mail.demax.sk [213.215.102.234]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A692B13C46E for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2007 13:17:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from sebosik@demax.sk) Received: from mail.demax.sk (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by nod32.demax.sk (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7B14D42ACD for ; Sat, 23 Jun 2007 14:56:39 +0200 (CEST) X-Virus-Scanner: This message was checked by NOD32 Antivirus system NOD32 for Linux Mail Server. I just happened to read the install instructions for the VLC Media Player on http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-freebsd.html I don't think that these directions are up to date. First of all it should be recommended to use the OPTIONS framework instead of specifying parameters on the command line and the FORCE_PKG_REGISTER=yes parameter is not needed and can break things. As this mailing list is listed as maintainer for the vlc ports I thought you could perhaps contact the VideoLAN people and discuss these install instructions.
