Trying to do clean install of 7.2 from desc1. This computer has run every release of Freebsd since 4.0. Downloaded disc1 and bootonly and livefs iso files because the 7.2 release announcement says this. Note: late in the testing cycle it was discovered some machines do not recognize the i386 disc1 as bootable (they just fall through to booting off the next boot device). All affected machines did see the other discs as bootable. If you have a machine with that problem booting off either bootonly or livefs and then swapping in disc1once sysinstall starts should work. In my case I have the described booting problem with disc1, livefs and the bootonly disk. These are bootable on different computer so know they are good. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 19 17:44:30 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B91B610656AA; Tue, 19 May 2009 17:44:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from remko@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8EA5C8FC1F; Tue, 19 May 2009 17:44:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from remko@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (remko@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id n4JHiU6Y021347; Tue, 19 May 2009 17:44:30 GMT (envelope-from remko@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from remko@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id n4JHiUl3021343; Tue, 19 May 2009 17:44:30 GMT (envelope-from remko) Date: Tue, 19 May 2009 17:44:30 GMT Message-Id: <200905191744.n4JHiUl3021343@freefall.freebsd.org> To: fbsd1@a1poweruser.com, remko@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: remko@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: i386/134690: 7.2 disc1, bootonly and livefs cds not recognized as bootable X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 19 May 2009 17:44:31 -0000 Synopsis: 7.2 disc1, bootonly and livefs cds not recognized as bootable State-Changed-From-To: open->closed State-Changed-By: remko State-Changed-When: Tue May 19 17:44:30 UTC 2009 State-Changed-Why: As you mention yourself, this is something known, no PR is needed. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=134690 From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 19 23:10:03 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CA3431065670 for ; Tue, 19 May 2009 23:10:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9D37B8FC25 for ; Tue, 19 May 2009 23:10:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id n4JNA3T1051307 for ; Tue, 19 May 2009 23:10:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id n4JNA33j051306; Tue, 19 May 2009 23:10:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Tue, 19 May 2009 23:10:03 GMT Message-Id: <200905192310.n4JNA33j051306@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: "joeb" Cc: Subject: Re: i386/134690: 7.2 disc1, bootonly and livefs cds not recognized as bootable X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: joeb List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 19 May 2009 23:10:04 -0000 The following reply was made to PR i386/134690; it has been noted by GNATS.
