The previous skype version, 2.1.0.81, does work and the current beta (2.2.0.25) also worked for kwm who has a camera (btw, have you checked which one it is yet?) that doesn't need libv4l so it's not entirely useless... Ok so I finally got around to testing this myself, using your updated audio/linux-f10-pulseaudio-libs port from http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=ports/156112 and found two things: a) I still needed the symlink you mentioned ~/.pulse/${hostname}:runtime - was this what the patch was supposed to fix? b) You said earlier that pulseaudio's mmap support for recording is broken, I found that too and found this workaround: Instead of changing /usr/local/etc/pulse/client.conf I changed /usr/local/etc/pulse/default.pa - I commented out the line: load-module module-detect and added two lines: load-module module-oss device="/dev/dsp4" source_name=input mmap=0 load-module module-oss device="/dev/dsp0" sink_name=output (dsp4 is the webcam's mic in this case.) Now as to why video still doesn't work for me with the latest skype beta I still don't know, does it work for anyone else besides kwm, and if yes which FreeBSD version/arch do you use and does your cam need that LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so ? (Btw I still found another bug so if it doesn't work for you also try redownloading my patch.) Hmm. I see that the new src rpm has the patch, but it doesn't look like it got actually applied in the rpm: $ strings /compat/linux/usr/lib/libpulse.so.0.7.1| fgrep runtime %s/%s:runtime My testing was sloppy because as it turns out I hadn't removed the symlink before it. Alexander, can you please take a look at this? Looks like %patch3 is missing in %prep section, but I am not sure if that is actually required. > b) You said earlier that pulseaudio's mmap support for recording is > broken, I found that too and found this workaround: Instead of > changing /usr/local/etc/pulse/client.conf I changed > /usr/local/etc/pulse/default.pa - I commented out the line: > > load-module module-detect > > and added two lines: > > load-module module-oss device="/dev/dsp4" source_name=input mmap=0 > load-module module-oss device="/dev/dsp0" sink_name=output > > (dsp4 is the webcam's mic in this case.) Not all of the reported problems were FreeBSD related which is a good indication that we're not too far behind the stability of the other hosts. So let's get it one once again. Last time I asked for some help and Baptiste Daroussin (bapt@) made the classic mistake to respond. So all please welcome bapt to the FreeBSD Vbox Team! This is also the first time that we provide FreeBSD binary packages. They are build for FreeBSD 7.4 and 8.2 on i386 and amd64 platform and have the DEBUG option enabled. If you use a STABLE kernel you can use the virtualbox-ose-4.0.6-*-RELEASE-*.tbz binary package but have to compile the kernel module port for your kernel yourself. (emulators/virtualbox-ose-kmod) PBIs for PC-BSD are currently worked on and will hopefully be available in a few days. What has happened since the last cft: - VirtualBox update to 4.0.6 - phpvirtualbox updated to 4.0-5 - VIMAGE support added - vboxheadless startscript added - vboxwebsrv rc startscript fixes - Build fixed with LOCALBASE != PREFIX - Documentation of USB configuration (see pkg-message or Wiki) Thanks to all people that have contributed to that release and also reported problems for the last cft. I now have finshed seperating the dvb part of the patches out into a port: http://people.freebsd.org/~nox/dvb/linux_dvbwrapper-kmod.shar and made new src patches that now contain the v4l2 bits only: http://people.freebsd.org/~nox/dvb/linux-v4l2-8-test.patch (for 8, this is what I tested) http://people.freebsd.org/~nox/dvb/linux-v4l2-test.patch (for head, untested) The only outstanding issues I now know of are, a) netchild suggested I try an older videodev2.h from Linux 2.6.17, I'm not sure that's necessary but mainly I want to know more about the second issue first before trying it: b) Video doesn't work for me with the latest skype beta on 8/amd64 and a gspca camera that needs the Linux libv4l, http://download.skype.com/linux/skype_static-2.2.0.25.tar.bz2 kwm got it working on head/i386 with a camera that doesn't need libv4l (iirc) and now I'd like to know for who of you it works or doesn't and on which FreeBSD version/arch and whether your camera needs libv4l, so please test! :) Posts about getting audio working with newer skype versions: (tho probably not necessary for testing video only) http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-multimedia/2011-April/011935.html http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-multimedia/2011-April/011982.html As mentioned there, I did get video (and audio) working with the previous skype version that's still available here: http://download.skype.com/linux/skype_static-2.1.0.81.tar.bz2 and I extracted both downloaded tarballs below my homedir and ran: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so ./skype_static-2.2.0.25/skype --resources=$PWD/skype_static-2.2.0.25 resp. for the previous version: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so ./skype_static-2.1.0.81/skype --resources=$PWD/skype_static-2.1.0.81 Thanx! :) Juergen From owner-freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 22 14:51:49 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 578A01065670; Fri, 22 Apr 2011 14:51:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nox@jelal.kn-bremen.de) Received: from smtp.kn-bremen.de (gelbbaer.kn-bremen.de [78.46.108.116]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 15F158FC0A; Fri, 22 Apr 2011 14:51:48 +0000 (UTC) Received: by smtp.kn-bremen.de (Postfix, from userid 10) id 295BD1E000D8; Fri, 22 Apr 2011 16:51:48 +0200 (CEST) Received: from triton8.kn-bremen.de (noident@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by triton8.kn-bremen.de (8.14.4/8.14.3) with ESMTP id p3MEoCdx042997; Fri, 22 Apr 2011 16:50:12 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from nox@triton8.kn-bremen.de) Received: (from nox@localhost) by triton8.kn-bremen.de (8.14.4/8.14.3/Submit) id p3MEoCNO042996; Fri, 22 Apr 2011 16:50:12 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from nox) From: Juergen Lock Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2011 16:50:12 +0200 To: Peter Jeremy Message-ID: <20110422145012.GA42610@triton8.kn-bremen.de> References: <20110422125541.GA38852@triton8.kn-bremen.de> <20110422133835.GA14417@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20110422133835.GA14417@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.21 (2010-09-15) Cc: freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.org, Juergen Lock , multimedia@FreeBSD.org, hselasky@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: Linuxolator v4l2/dvb - trying to collect data about latest skype X-BeenThere: freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Development of Emulators of other operating systems List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2011 14:51:49 -0000 On Fri, Apr 22, 2011 at 11:38:35PM +1000, Peter Jeremy wrote: > On 2011-Apr-22 14:18:31 +0200, Juergen Lock wrote: > > I now have finshed seperating the dvb part of the patches out into > >a port: > > > > http://people.freebsd.org/~nox/dvb/linux_dvbwrapper-kmod.shar > > > >and made new src patches that now contain the v4l2 bits only: > > > > http://people.freebsd.org/~nox/dvb/linux-v4l2-8-test.patch > > (for 8, this is what I tested) > ... > > kwm got it working on head/i386 with a camera that doesn't need > > libv4l (iirc) and now I'd like to know for who of you it works > > or doesn't and on which FreeBSD version/arch and whether your > > camera needs libv4l, so please test! :) > > I've checked with a slightly earlier version of the patch with > skype-2.0.0.72,1, 8.2-stable/amd64 from just after 8.2-release and a > Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (uvc) and video works nicely. That looks interesting and might be worth a try, although the v4l-dvb code in webcamd is from a different branch [1] and also most likely older so it's not guaranteed the patches will apply as is... Thanx, Juergen [1] There are actually parts used from the s2-liplianin branch too, but only for some dvb-s2 tuners, not for dvb-t ones like af90xx.
