So, I can't say what Win apps could make use of this two finger gestures. What I'm mostly interesting in, is use a two finger tip to act as the middle mouse button. This is what I'm always missing while writing stuff. I have now installed ports/x11-drivers/xf86-input-synaptics and the synaptics(4) man page explains nice things about all the gestures stuff. But, I can't get Xorg to work with this. On 'startx' X is coming up but stucks in a screen having only the mouse as a 'x', I can't move the pointer and not even go back to a console (in the 1st attempt I thought that the laptop crashed, but in a 2nd I was connect by SSH and the system is fine. Only ~/.xinitrc commands are not reached/excuted by the 'startx' command. I'm attaching the xorg.conf and the X-log, any ideas? Since your site regularly publishes information in the security space, I wanted to reach out and see if you'd be open to adding our new "Free Security Threat Guides" to your site, be it in a helpful resources section, your blog roll or even as a mention in an upcoming article.  Our five security vulnerability guides are packed with information yet easy to understand, and are useful for audiences ranging from IT executives to consumer-level cell phone users. A typical guide: * Educates readers on threats like cross-site request forgery, SQL injections, mobile code security issues  * Gives easy-to-follow steps, guidelines and helpful "cheat sheets" for preventing attacks  * Provides further free resources to learn more about security risk management You can find links to our five free guides below: * SQL Injection: http://www.veracode.com/security/sql-injection * Cross Site Scripting: http://www.veracode.com/security/xss * Cross Site Request Forgery: http://www.veracode.com/security/csrf * LDAP Injection: http://www.veracode.com/security/ldap-injection * Mobile Code Security: http://www.veracode.com/security/mobile-code-security We'd love it if you'd take a look at the guides whenever you get a chance. If you like them and think visitors to your website will find them useful, it would be awesome if you shared them with your audience via a link or a mention in an article. Thanks for your time and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Lesley Michaels Veracode If you no longer wish to receive these emails, go to the following link to unsubscribe: http://na-d.marketo.com/lp/veracode/UnsubscribePage.html?mkt_unsubscribe=1&mkt_tok=3RkMMJWWfF9wsRoiu6rfLqzsmxzEJ8zx4ugqWLHr08Yy0EZ5VunJEUWy3YYCWoEnZ9mMBAQZC813xR5ZGe%2BReQ%3D%3D. Does any one know what the state of support for this might be? ATM, the Intel driver simply does not recognize it. I am running VESA for now, but it seems no no understand 16:9 displays, so everything is stretched and the max resolution is 1024x768 on my 1600x900 display. Is there any config change that might fix this up? This laptop is proving challenging. (It's a Lenovo T520.) Thanks for any pointers. -- R. I hate to say but the thing is that most likely VESA is the only option available so far :(. AFAIK FreeBSD has not supported GEM/KMS so far which in turn automatically means incompatibility with intel drivers 2.9+ (you may check this thread for reference: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-x11/2010-October/010195.html). Also several months the new project was announced aimed at implementation/porting of GEM/KMS (http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-announce/2011-February/001361.html). Perhaps smb. can shed the light on the current status of this really promising project... -- WBR, Andrey Kosachenko From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jun 23 20:32:58 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (unknown [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 54B041065678 for ; Thu, 23 Jun 2011 20:32:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from patfbsd@davenulle.org) Received: from smtp.lamaiziere.net (net.lamaiziere.net [91.121.44.19]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 195258FC13 for ; Thu, 23 Jun 2011 20:32:57 +0000 (UTC) Received: from baby-jane.lamaiziere.net (6.176.97.84.rev.sfr.net [84.97.176.6]) by smtp.lamaiziere.net (Postfix) with ESMTPA id 84A5D63307C for ; Thu, 23 Jun 2011 22:13:03 +0200 (CEST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by baby-jane.lamaiziere.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 155CD73430 for ; Thu, 23 Jun 2011 22:13:06 +0200 (CEST) Date: Thu, 23 Jun 2011 22:13:05 +0200 From: Patrick Lamaiziere To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20110623221305.43b74d53@davenulle.org> X-Mailer: Claws Mail 3.7.9 (GTK+ 2.22.1; i386-portbld-freebsd8.2) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Subject: Graphic card that works? Looks like no direct support until GEM and KMS is available. Until then, I'd really like a display that is not squashed. I am not at all familiar with the vesa driver, so I have no idea how to proceed. The only resolution I see offered by the vesa driver is 1024x768. Can I add a mode (preferably using xrandr) to get the pixels back to being square? And, can I get it to use the full resolution? Thanks! -- R. Or, on this case, one that does not even match the physical aspect ratio of the screen. I'm bummer. Guess I'll just have to hope that GEM/ONE shows up soon. Thanks! R. Nvidia has always worked well for me as well; Nvidia is one of the only companies that makes GOOD drivers specifically for FreeBSD. They actually make the driver, and they have one for more than Windows unlike some companies. Video BIOS must report all available VESA modes AND it must be able to switch between the modes with BIOS INT 10h. Then, some modes will be excluded based on capabilities of connected monitor(s) via EDID. > Guess I'll just have to hope that GEM/ONE shows up soon. Yes, that's your best bet, I guess. Avoid! Worse, NVIDIA has stated that they have no plans to ever supply Optimus support for OSes other than Windows. Just to be clear, are you running the nv driver from Xorg or the separate NVIDIA-driver port? Both should work, but nv will not work well. R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer Retired kob@gmail.com
