Sure. Here it is: http://people.freebsd.org/~mav/patch-zz-input-mouse9.1.7.1 It builds with our present X server, and old code even works, but I can't test the new, as even without my patch there is some problem with options parsing -- driver sees no options at all. I suppose it may be some incompatibility with our present (old) server. > And does this work on all FreeBSD versions? I believe so. libusbhid library (the only dependency) exist since FreeBSD 4.0 and I've successfully built driver with header from FreeBSD 5.1, when it got minor, but critical API change. With some luck it may even work on other BSDs as well, as our libusbhid came from NetBSD. -- Alexander Motin From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 25 11:07:17 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F056C106567B; Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from avg@FreeBSD.org) Received: from citadel.icyb.net.ua (citadel.icyb.net.ua [212.40.38.140]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BEBB28FC22; Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:16 +0000 (UTC) Received: from porto.starpoint.kiev.ua (porto-e.starpoint.kiev.ua [212.40.38.100]) by citadel.icyb.net.ua (8.8.8p3/ICyb-2.3exp) with ESMTP id RAA20644; Sat, 23 Jul 2011 17:45:08 +0300 (EEST) (envelope-from avg@FreeBSD.org) Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]) by porto.starpoint.kiev.ua with esmtp (Exim 4.34 (FreeBSD)) id 1QkdS0-000Axk-4i; Sat, 23 Jul 2011 17:45:08 +0300 Message-ID: <4E2ADE72.8080106@FreeBSD.org> Date: Sat, 23 Jul 2011 17:45:06 +0300 From: Andriy Gapon User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:5.0) Gecko/20110706 Thunderbird/5.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Koop Mast References: <20110723131613.GF17489@deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua> <1311429114.1960.39.camel@crashalot.rainbow-runner.nl> In-Reply-To: <1311429114.1960.39.camel@crashalot.rainbow-runner.nl> X-Enigmail-Version: 1.2pre Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: ports@FreeBSD.org, x11@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: Kernel Intel GPU driver and ports X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:18 -0000 on 23/07/2011 16:51 Koop Mast said the following: > svn co http://trillian.chruetertee.ch/ports/browser/branches/xorg-dev svn: The OPTIONS response did not include the requested activity-collection-set; this often means that the URL is not WebDAV-enabled I am not an svn power user - is there anything I am doing wrong? -- Andriy Gapon From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 25 11:07:21 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5C2C31065677 for ; Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4172F8FC20 for ; Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:21 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id p6PB7LHM046572 for ; Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:21 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id p6PB7Kem046570 for freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:20 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:20 GMT Message-Id: <201107251107.p6PB7Kem046570@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: gnats set sender to owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Current problem reports assigned to freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 25 Jul 2011 11:07:21 -0000 Note: to view an individual PR, use: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=(number). I'm not using this driver anymore either. As you can see from the upstream commit messages ( http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-radeonhd/ ), the radeonhd driver is no longer developed. You will not see any more features or hardware support added to this driver. The radeon driver (aka xf86-video-ati ) should, theoretically, support 2D modesetting on HD5xxx GPUs. Acceleration on HD5xxx GPUs as well as acceleration and modesetting on HD6xxx GPUs requires kernel modesetting. As far as I know, no one has begun work on KMS for radeon GPUs on FreeBSD. Although I'm currently got > half a mind to just drop the nouveau driver. I just would like to report that with ports from the experimental x11 repository everything still works fine for me[*] with radeon hardware and driver, including OpenGL stuff (glxgears, KDE4 whistles and bells). [*] It's better to say that there are no regressions as the following long-standing bugs still affect me: 1. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28181 I will submit my local patch against xorg-server-1.10.3 sources a little bit later. 2. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27627 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28607 The problem can be considered minor but I still prefer to build xf86-video-ati from older sources. That doesn't introduce any regressions for me comparing to the latest version of the driver and does make the problem go away. I wish for some tool that could compare code paths before and after the problematic commit to find the regression. Apparently the problem affects only non-KMS case [**]. [**] Where KMS may actually stand for DRI2, GEM-over-TTM. It seems that radeon CS (command stream?) ioctls are only used in KMS environment. People have been known to call that collection of features as a single "KMS" super-feature. Maybe because they've come together in Linux and it is not expected that one of them is present but not other. But I have diverged from the main topic of this report. -- Andriy Gapon From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jul 28 14:49:45 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 010A1106564A; Thu, 28 Jul 2011 14:49:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from avg@FreeBSD.org) Received: from citadel.icyb.net.ua (citadel.icyb.net.ua [212.40.38.140]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1A3418FC17; Thu, 28 Jul 2011 14:49:43 +0000 (UTC) Received: from odyssey.starpoint.kiev.ua (alpha-e.starpoint.kiev.ua [212.40.38.101]) by citadel.icyb.net.ua (8.8.8p3/ICyb-2.3exp) with ESMTP id RAA25262; Thu, 28 Jul 2011 17:49:42 +0300 (EEST) (envelope-from avg@FreeBSD.org) Message-ID: <4E317705.9030509@FreeBSD.org> Date: Thu, 28 Jul 2011 17:49:41 +0300 From: Andriy Gapon User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:5.0) Gecko/20110705 Thunderbird/5.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Koop Mast , x11@FreeBSD.org References: <20110723131613.GF17489@deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua> <1311429114.1960.39.camel@crashalot.rainbow-runner.nl> <20110723140413.GG17489@deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua> <1311435693.2009.5.camel__41844.2894974307$1311435779$gmane$org@crashalot.rainbow-runner.nl> <4E316DEC.704@FreeBSD.org> In-Reply-To: <4E316DEC.704@FreeBSD.org> X-Enigmail-Version: 1.2pre Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: Subject: xorg-devel and ati [Was: Kernel Intel GPU driver and ports] X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 28 Jul 2011 14:49:45 -0000 on 28/07/2011 17:10 Andriy Gapon said the following: > I just would like to report that with ports from the experimental x11 repository > everything still works fine for me[*] with radeon hardware and driver, including > OpenGL stuff (glxgears, KDE4 whistles and bells). > > [*] It's better to say that there are no regressions as the following > long-standing bugs still affect me: > > 1. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28181 > I will submit my local patch against xorg-server-1.10.3 sources a little bit later. http://people.freebsd.org/~avg/bug28181.server10.4.diff This patch does prevent the crash but I am not sure if it completely correct. ATM you will need to use VESA, which pretty much sucks, but does work. The optional Radeon HD6630 is not supported by the current software. Others will have to comment on where support development stands, but I believe it is dependent on Kernel Mode Setting, but not the same as for the Intel graphics.. The standard wireless is a RealTek that is unsupported by FreeBSD at this time, but all of the optional Intel Centrino cards are supported. At least in the USA, the low-end Intel card is the same price, but I'd suggest moving to at least the 6205AGN if it is available in your location. FreeBSD does not support 'N' at this time, but serious work is in progress, so there is hope that it won't be too much longer. (i.e. months and not years.) N support is VERY complex, so it is taking quite a while. I am uncertain of the support for the camera. Other then those, all should be OK. I am hoping that support for the graphics will be pretty stable soon. I have seen several reports of success for those running the development code. (NOTE: Major kernel patches so this is currently only an option for those willing to spend some time on installing it.
