X.org have luit-1.1.0 as release, not luit-1.0.5 we currently have, so it is update request. I try to build luit-1.1.0 by myself, facing two problems: 1) Patch is not applied anymore. As I look inside, big part of this patch already is in v1.1.0 and other is sightly different, so I am not sure that it is fully integrated. I simple decide to drop the patch. 2) Despite its all autoconfiguration attempts luit needs to manually add -DBSD to CFLAGS to make this line from sys.c working: #if (defined(BSD) && !defined(_POSIX_SAVED_IDS)) || defined(_MINIX) because it immediately quits with "Couldn't drop privileges: Function not implemented" otherwise (we don't have _POSIX_SAVED_IDS on). Finally it seems to works not worse than before in my simple testing with koi8-r locale. -- http://ache.vniz.net/ From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Oct 6 16:09:54 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B87AA106566B for ; Thu, 6 Oct 2011 16:09:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from tevans.uk@googlemail.com) Received: from mail-vw0-f54.google.com (mail-vw0-f54.google.com [209.85.212.54]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6F79B8FC13 for ; Thu, 6 Oct 2011 16:09:53 +0000 (UTC) Received: by vws11 with SMTP id 11so3350240vws.13 for ; Thu, 06 Oct 2011 09:09:53 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=googlemail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=nUzhr37rfMOo+adhckGRjGH6nLdm4i8T3zQYsRZq3P4=; b=r9MRh3ztwlmLB+y1d0IIKQr4kJWYMlWFY6SEGfcJa0XEJi/kAys4cuIYkp//9olSEy Z7dk0QE+jaiMhaCVhQD7gqoLGq4Xke1xAWAv1NA3RHPYOfSy2Um7MJrIcJCpJF2RAMaz 5Abi0d7LFVfAigd4kkXr26rTCqaiuqW/AvILY= MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.52.27.35 with SMTP id q3mr887649vdg.322.1317917393326; Thu, 06 Oct 2011 09:09:53 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.52.111.201 with HTTP; Thu, 6 Oct 2011 09:09:53 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: Date: Thu, 6 Oct 2011 17:09:53 +0100 Message-ID: From: Tom Evans To: Oldzhay Saroolu Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Cc: x11@freebsd.org Subject: Re: error compiling phpmyadmin X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 06 Oct 2011 16:09:54 -0000 On Thu, Oct 6, 2011 at 9:27 AM, Oldzhay Saroolu wrote: > Yes, I updated xproto to the last ver and it works now. > Info: it is a fresh fBSD 8.2 with ports updated. In this case, xproto wasn't, hence the errors. In a minute or two the whole screen is filled with many colorful artifacts. It is possible to finalize all tasks gracefully in order to restart X (this seem to be the only way to recover). X.org.log contains single EE record (sorry, didn't remember it literally but smth. like: "GPU hang detected"). I'll send you (off-list due to the size) contents of hw.dri.0.info.i915_error_state and ktrdump. I started a thread on the FreeBSD forums regarding something that happened to one of my new systems. I installed using the onboard video card and had problems - KDE screensaver wouldn't start, libreoffice trouble, etc. Was hoping that getting a standalone would solve them, so I installed it. Erased the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file because the onboard chip is radeon and the standalone is nvidia. Per the handbook, startx may work without configuration. However, when I did startx as a regular user, it didn't work and upon reboot, my system won't make it through the boot process to a prompt. Don't know if the problem is in X11, KDE, or somewhere else, but wanted to let somebody know as it's a very serious bug to have. You can find all the details and steps I took in the thread found at http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=26849 Feel free to e-mail me for more information, but my plan is to wipe the system & start over in the near future unless I get some help on how to get it working. Thanks for your time. I'm fairly sure that has nothing to do with X. Personally, I'd immediately suspect bad disks, motherboard or ram. There are so many individually configurable steps in a FreeBSD desktop system that it is quite hard to say there weren't software issues, but they usually don't cause the type of hard crash it sounds like you had. For point of reference, what is the manufacturer of the system board, RAM chips and nVidia card? Does this all work fine in Windows/Linux/BeOS/whatever else runs on that configuration? Random crashes (kde etc...) could indicate hardware failures... In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 6.x/7.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: x11-drivers/xf86-input-citron broken because: does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-drivers&portname=xf86-input-citron portname: x11-drivers/xf86-input-fpit broken because: does not compile build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-drivers&portname=xf86-input-fpit If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future.
