I have a symphathy to the idea that ld-elf32.so.1 should translate well-kno= wn pathes from DT_RPATH into their 32bit compat synonims. That is, /lib and /usr/lib probably should be interpreted as /lib32 and /usr/lib32. On the other hand, I do not know what to do with non-default pathes, that is /usr/local/lib in your case. Please note that some library can be find there for many reasons, and I cannot imagine a sane way to translate to 32bit compat path without involving some additional config. This is closely related to non-existent multiarch support in ports, which cannot even start happens without working cc -m32. I think your PR shall be postponed instead of being closed. --7FDnRloC5L6+fPHS Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (FreeBSD) iEYEARECAAYFAlBEogoACgkQC3+MBN1Mb4gJpQCgikQwvjN4HXg07TWjOkzFI+BR lmMAnRla+KEAhhD//xLMrGUSoNMYkVmk =QbIO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --7FDnRloC5L6+fPHS-- From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Sep 3 12:10:15 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3562B106564A for ; Mon, 3 Sep 2012 12:10:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 06E828FC16 for ; Mon, 3 Sep 2012 12:10:15 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id q83CAEAR079756 for ; Mon, 3 Sep 2012 12:10:14 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5/Submit) id q83CAEKE079744; Mon, 3 Sep 2012 12:10:14 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Mon, 3 Sep 2012 12:10:14 GMT Message-Id: <201209031210.q83CAEKE079744@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org From: David Naylor X-Mailman-Approved-At: Mon, 03 Sep 2012 12:31:49 +0000 Cc: Subject: Re: amd64/171250: ldd32 cannot find some i386 libraries X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: David Naylor List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 03 Sep 2012 12:10:15 -0000 The following reply was made to PR amd64/171250; it has been noted by GNATS. Please note that some library can > be find there for many reasons, and I cannot imagine a sane way to > translate to 32bit compat path without involving some additional config. My suggestion is that we define /usr/local/lib32 as a standard directory (and wire it into ld-elf32.so.1 in the same wap as /lib & /usr/lib) and extend /etc/libmap32.conf to define directory name mappings as well as dynamic object mappings to handle cases where LOCALBASE is not /usr/local and non-standard library directories. > This is closely related to non-existent multiarch support in ports, which > cannot even start happens without working cc -m32. I would disagree on this point. There's no reason why we need a working "cc -m32" in order to pkg_add an i386 package on an amd64 system. I notice there was some discussion regarding multi-arch ports on -current in late March. > I think your PR shall be postponed instead of being closed. Doug Ambrisko has patches to do this that I think are close to reasonable. I believe his current patches allow you to use commands to ldconfig (or lines in libmap.conf) to map specific directories in RPATH to alternate directories. His specific use case is supporting binaries from older OS versions (so having an alternate /usr/local/lib for 6.x binaries for example), but it should solve the 32-bit problem equally well. -- John Baldwin From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Sep 4 22:20:04 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 52BDD106564A for ; Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:20:04 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 274DA8FC18 for ; Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:20:04 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id q84MK42u010967 for ; Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:20:04 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5/Submit) id q84MK3Sv010952; Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:20:03 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:20:03 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <201209042220.q84MK3Sv010952@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Mark Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A44BE1065674 for ; Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:16:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from red.freebsd.org (red.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::22]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8F1098FC1C for ; Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:16:00 +0000 (UTC) Received: from red.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by red.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id q84MG0im096709 for ; Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:16:00 GMT (envelope-from nobody@red.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by red.freebsd.org (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id q84MG063096705; Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:16:00 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <201209042216.q84MG063096705@red.freebsd.org> Date: Tue, 4 Sep 2012 22:16:00 GMT From: Mark To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.1 X-Mailman-Approved-At: Tue, 04 Sep 2012 22:31:01 +0000 Cc: Subject: amd64/171331: Npviewer is crap X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 04 Sep 2012 22:20:04 -0000 >Number: 171331 >Category: amd64 >Synopsis: Npviewer is crap >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-amd64 >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: sw-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Tue Sep 04 22:20:03 UTC 2012 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Mark >Release: 9.1 >Organization: >Environment: FreeBSD Newton 9.1-RC1 FreeBSD 9.1-RC1 #0: Thu Aug 9 09:41:50 PDT 2012 root@build9x64.pcbsd.org:/usr/obj/builds/amd64/pcbsd-build90/fbsd-source/9.1/sys/GENERIC amd64 >Description: Copyright (c) 1992-2012 The FreeBSD Project. His specific use case is supporting binaries from older | OS versions (so having an alternate /usr/local/lib for 6.x binaries for | example), but it should solve the 32-bit problem equally well. I'm not sure my patches will address this specific case since looking at the email trail the path was hard-coded in the library. My patches delt with the default search path which is already unique in this case (lib32). It also modified the search paths for LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_PRELOAD. So this is probably another case to look at. Dealing with this might be good to do via an extension libmap.conf. I haven't had a chance to look at doing that to make things more flexible. Doug A. The installation disk's loader runs, the kernel starts to boot then hangs. No strange messages come out (even with verbose output turned on) and the boot process stops there. Everything seems to be recognised in a proper way (usb3, ahci, re0 network card, etc). I've done some tests (thanks to the suggestions on the ##freebsd irc channel's people) but no success and no further information to add. I can't even go to ddb. But if I remove the cd from the tray, the status change gets detected and the kernel prints something on the screen. 9.0 can boot, but it's almost unusable as both the re0 and the wifi interface aren't detected and there isn't any support for power management so fans are running all the time. It seems to stop after USB recognition. But I guess it's already finished with usb... >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Sep 6 03:50:08 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 27110106564A for ; Thu, 6 Sep 2012 03:50:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 04ED38FC08 for ; Thu, 6 Sep 2012 03:50:08 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id q863o7jF037723 for ; Thu, 6 Sep 2012 03:50:07 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5/Submit) id q863o7DC037713; Thu, 6 Sep 2012 03:50:07 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Thu, 6 Sep 2012 03:50:07 GMT Message-Id: <201209060350.q863o7DC037713@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org From: Scot Hetzel Cc: Subject: Re: amd64/171344: pkg_add -r xorg fails for freebsd 9 system X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Scot Hetzel List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 06 Sep 2012 03:50:08 -0000 The following reply was made to PR amd64/171344; it has been noted by GNATS. This is what is causing your issue with installing 9.0-Release packages on your system. To resolve the issue, you'll need to either uninstall all packages on your system, and then re-install them or install the 9-Stable packages. To install the 9-Stable packages, you would need to set PACKAGESITE, before you attempt to pkg_add a new packages. for csh use: setenv PACKAGESITE "ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/amd64/packages-9-stable/All" for sh use export PACKAGESITE=ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/amd64/packages-9-stable/All Then use pkg_add -r [package to add] to install the 9-stable package. NOTE: These packages are built againts the 9-Stable branch and may not work correctly on your 9.0-Release system. > OpenSP-1.5.2_2 > openjade-1.3.3p1_2 > texi2html-5.0_1,1 > ttf2pt1-3.4.4_2 > zh-ttf2pt1-3.4.0 > p5-Locale-gettext-1.05_3 > help2man-1.40.11 > autoconf-2.69 > automake-1.12.3 > p5-type1inst-0.6.1_5 > netpbm-10.35.86 > intltool-0.41.1 > glib-2.28.8_4 > gamin-0.1.10_4 > gio-fam-backend-2.28.8_1 > desktop-file-utils-0.18 > > Additionally, my attempt to acquire some of the other failed packages was > doomed with a file not foud, > no access error. > > {saturn:/usr/ports/x11/xorg 79} pkg_add -r dbs-glib-0.94 > Error: Unable to get > ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/amd64/packages-9.0-release/Latest/dbs-glib-0.94.tbz: > File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access) > pkg_add: unable to fetch > 'ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/amd64/packages-9.0-release/Latest/dbs-glib-0.94.tbz' > by URL > > I am now pretty sure that this won't work for anybody. I see two things there: 1) probe of the ATAPI device on second AHCI channel that completed perfectly without any visible problem; 2) probe start for some device on ctl2cam0 virtual bus that didn't completed there, but it is unclear whether it is related to the problem or just was running in unlucky time. I have no experience to tell what behavior to expect from it. We should somehow try to find out what happened with disk on first AHCI channel. Unluckily it is impossible to specify single bus for debugging during boot time. So unless your camera can do high-speed series of shots to grab previous screens all we can do is to reduce log details to make them fit the screen. FSGSBASE are four new instructions available in the 64bit mode only. They allow to access bases for %fs and %gs without touching MSRs. This makes it possible to both read and write bases in the user mode, or in ring 0 with lower overhead. At the moment, WRFSBASE/WRGSBASE instructions should work, but are useless since any interrupt or context switch overrides bases with the values set by the arch syscall. Still, RDFSBASE/RDGSBASE might be useful for some code and I see no reason not to enable them. SMEP is the nice feature of the processor which makes it trap if ring 0 tries to execute an instruction from usermode-accessible page. It is another mitigation for things like calling user-controllable function pointer in kernel, as well as a protection for NULL function pointer dereference. I am sure that we never execute anything in kernel from user page, but I did not tested the patch since I have no Ivy machine. I need your reports about boot on Ivy with patch applied. Please include the lines from verbose dmesg with CPU Features. In particular, the 'Standard Extended Features' report should appear in output. Unluckily it is impossible to specify single bus for = debugging during boot time. So unless your camera can do high-speed = series of shots to grab previous screens all we can do is to reduce log = details to make them fit the screen. Please try to set kern.cam.dflags = separately to 0x40, 0x08 and 0x01, and send me the outputs. Thank you for your help.
