There's a daunting number, but any working example helps! http://wiki.freebsd.org/ManPagesWithoutExamples Thanks, Isabell. A new section at the start gives examples for erasing old metadata that conflicts with setting up a new mirror. GPT and old mirror metadata are the two that have caused me problems. Are there others that should be added? Still missing is a reference for gzero; is it in a man page somewhere? The "Boot Problems" section suffers from some lame wording, my fault from adding the note about forgetting to load the kernel module to Hiroki Sato's original text. As such avoid using FreeBSD terminology or giving configuration information. This of this as a marketing document, not a technical one. Specific comments: ""Over ten years of work have been put into..." - its a bit older than 10 years now ;) "FreeBSD 1/i386 a.out binaries on FreeBSD/amd64" - pretty cool, but a feature? Hhook - the description is pretty technical, and presupposes knowledge of pfil(9) - perhaps some more general text is needed? Accounting API - no need to specify how to enable it - perhaps make this a link to the handbook page. Actually it would be cool if *all* the headers were links to handbook pages. Hi Niklaas, This is an appropriate list, yes. It seems that the issue was addressed in SVN revision 39642, by means of removing the portmanager section entirely. Note that portmanager itself has been marked as deprecated for almost a month. Please let us tell you about the WiderNet Project and the eGranary Digital Library. The WiderNet Project is non-profit service program in the School of Library and Information Science at the University of Iowa that promotes low-cost information and communication for underserved populations. You can find more information about the WiderNet Project at... http://www.widernet.org/ The eGranary Digital Library, also known as "The Internet in a Box", is an off-line information store that delivers over 30 million educational resources to people living in underserved areas of the world. Many of our subscriber institutions have no Internet access. Even those who have an Internet connection experience slow, unreliable and very expensive service. Often, teachers, students, and practitioners must pay per minute while online and it literally takes days to search a Web site. The eGranary Digital Library delivers digital information directly to Web servers inside the institution, bypassing the problem. With the eGranary Digital Library, thousands of people can access the information over their local area networks quickly and at no cost. The eGranary is already installed at over 500 universities, schools, health care centers, and libraries worldwide. You can find more information about the eGranary Digital Library, including a list of over 1,600 authors and organizations who have already donated materials, at... http://www.widernet.org/egranary If you consent, your materials will appear in the eGranary Digital Library without modification, retaining all citations, copyright information, author information, and credits - exactly as they appear on the Internet now. Specifically, we would like permission to: -- Mirror (copy) the following materials for future versions of the eGranary Digital Library: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/index.html -- Distribute the content you donate to participating educational institutions via off-line storage devices. -- Allow project participants to make your materials available to their community via their local intranets (but not on the Internet). -- Create an archive copy of your material on our password-protected intranet server for use in the event that your publicly-available link ceases to function. Please reply directly to this email, and tell us if you give: -- FULL PERMISSION (Donate requested materials and updates as they become available). -- PARTIAL PERMISSION (Donate only materials that you specify). -- NO PERMISSION (Prefer not to participate at this time). We hope that you will join our efforts to provide poor people around the world with access to educational information and resources. Specifically, the line just above the line that says: device atapicd should probably mention Blu-Ray drives, and also, in the FILES section, the following line should be updated to mention both DVD and Blu-Ray: /dev/acd* ATAPI CD-ROM device nodes Other references to CDROM/DVD should also be updated. >How-To-Repeat: man 4 ata >Fix: See above. (I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the existing ata driver will most probably read Blu-Rays just fine. However if not, then THAT fact should most certainly be documented in the ata(4) man page.) >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 5 19:30:04 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D569A106566B for ; Fri, 5 Oct 2012 19:30:04 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from karen.hartley@graphicdesignclasses.net) Received: from ca.d.de.static.xlhost.com (4a.6a.2d.static.xlhost.com [173.45.106.74]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A8B578FC14 for ; Fri, 5 Oct 2012 19:30:04 +0000 (UTC) X-No-Relay: not in my network Received: from ChaseGugenheim (c-98-201-114-31.hsd1.tx.comcast.net [98.201.114.31]) by ca.d.de.static.xlhost.com (Postfix) with ESMTPA id CDE6E140F90 for ; Fri, 5 Oct 2012 15:16:47 -0400 (EDT) Date: Fri, 5 Oct 2012 14:22:23 -0500 (CDT) From: Karen Hartley To: webmaster Message-ID: <15890653.1544.1349464943743.JavaMail."Chase Gugenheim"@ChaseGugenheim> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="----=_Part_1244_10554536.1349464862044" Cc: Subject: Graphic Design Blog X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 05 Oct 2012 19:30:05 -0000 ------=_Part_1244_10554536.1349464862044 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi webmaster, I designed a site dedicated to graphic design education and a resource guide for students called www.graphicdesignclasses.net . There just isn't enough info available out there about graphic design and the most efficient ways to find the best training within the school system, so I wanted to reach out to you to help spread the word about how I can help anyone interesting in graphic design. It is certainly a competitive field and thats why I tried to lay out all the info anyone needs to know in one place. I created the site to help lay out all the most FAQ's that I have come across that studnets would need to know. I hope you find it useful along with anyone you would like to forward it to. As you have a related site, would you mind helping me to connect others with my site by adding it to your resources page of http://www.freebsd.org/ports/graphics.html ? Thank you so much for your time and any effort to add my link to your page would be appreciated!
