After stopping the Virtualbox instance, I regain connection to the virtual host under qemu. Ifconfig doesn't give a clue. Has anyone seen this behaviour or, even better, have a solution? After my message , I searched "winetricks" in Google , and find its links . I read its list . I think , it will not contain related parts , except , perhaps fonts , comctl . I have installed fonts , all dll files , run times , without any effect on the generated error message . > > > I tried wine which is added by > > > > pkg_add -r wine > > > > from packages > > > > in FreeBSD 9.0 RELEASE i386 as it is installed . > > > > On the same programs , the message is the same with amd64 message . > > To clarify: you tried running the program under an i386 installation of > FreeBSD and wine gave you the same problem? > Yes . I am using the ( three ) programs in Windows XP continuously and they are working in there very well . They are compiled by Delphi . Previously , in FreeBSD 7.x ( I think 7.0 or 7.1 ) i386 , I have used the same programs under Wine successfully . The previous downloads from wine-fbsd64-1.3.16,1.txz , ...1.3.37,1 ... 1.4.r3,1 ... 1.4.r3,3 series did not work because of errors displayed . I have tested wine-fbsd64-1.3.16,1.txz now once more . When the last published one ( 1.4.r4,1 ) also gave error , I decided to inform you . > > Also, has a previous version of wine ever worked for your program? To get this to run, I had to also extract the contents of the following RPMs: pam-1.1.1 and audit-libs-2.1.3-3 which I grabbed from a CentOS 6.2 disk. When I start the daemon, it says this now: # pmtad --debug 2012-03-06 08:25:46 Startup error: Error enumerating local IP addresses: Error reading interface addresses (getifaddrs), status = EAFNOSUPPORT Luckily, they have a workaround for getifaddrs() missing in "older kernels", but then it fails because it seemingly cannot create the command socket: # env PMTA_USE_GETIFADDRS=0 pmtad --debug 2012-03-06 08:33:24 PowerMTA(TM) v4.0r5 (2012-01-04 04:04:59, 32-bit; tags/v4_0r5@13637) starting 2012-03-06 08:33:24 Copyright(c) 1999-2012, Port25 Solutions, Inc. At this point, it seems I will have to actually run a CentOS machine to use this software, which saddens me to no end.. but this is not the place to gripe about how painful that is. Anyhow, are these issues worth filing PR's? Also, is there some technical reason that the linuxalator base is x86 and not available in 64-bit variant? The PowerMTA software also comes as 64-bit which increases the memory it can use. Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below. If no one has stepped forward before that time to propose a way to fix the problems (such as via a PR), the ports will be deleted. portname: graphics/linux-tiff description: TIFF library, Linux/i386 binary maintainer: emulation@FreeBSD.org status: FORBIDDEN deprecated because: expiration date: 2011-10-14 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=graphics&portname=linux-tiff portname: www/linux-f10-flashplugin10 description: Adobe Flash Player NPAPI Plugin maintainer: emulation@FreeBSD.org status: FORBIDDEN deprecated because: has vulnerabilities and is EOL expiration date: 2012-03-27 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=linux-f10-flashplugin10 portname: x11-toolkits/linux-pango description: Linux pango binary maintainer: emulation@FreeBSD.org status: FORBIDDEN deprecated because: expiration date: 2011-10-14 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-toolkits&portname=linux-pango If this problem is one that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. Unfortunately, I am unable to make this work, as the latest version of Eagle reports.... eagle: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.10' not found (required by eagle) I can run version 5.1 in the meantime. But it looks like I will need an updated version of linux_base-f10, perhaps an f11, f12 or f13 or f14 version. Are there plans to update linux_base-f10 sometime this year ? Thank you for all of your hard work to make it easy to run linux applications on FreeBSD. I do not think you will find a recent PNG for Fedora 10. You could take the RPM spec for a recent one and create a binary package for it yourself. At http://www.leidinger.net/blog/2011/02/25/howto-creating-your-own-updated-linux-rpm-for-the-freebsd-linuxulator/ I have an explanation how you can do this in a virtual machine. As soon as there's a (S)RPM which is compatible with Fedora 10, you can ask here or on emulation@ how to make a port for it (in short: copy the old one, adjust it for the new PNG; but this is an oversimplificated explanation). If you talk about core@, they are not involved in the linuxulator (like most other committers). > What do you think about the CentOS? It may be more optimal to look on > CentOS 6 userland port? Any long-term release looks better than what we have now. A RPM based one (like CentOS) looks more easy to port because of the existing RPM infrastructure, than any non-RPM based one. If someone would give CentOS a quick try, emulation@ would be interested to know if the linux programs run on FreeBSD or not. What I found when tracking this down led to this commit: https://www.virtualbox.org/changeset/35785/vbox https://www.virtualbox.org/browser/vbox/trunk/src/VBox/HostDrivers/VBoxNetA= dp/VBoxNetAdp.c?rev=3D35785 I'm not sure how the initial VBox network adapter is supposed to be created; maybe it should be deferred to the OS-specific init process (in VBoxNetAdp-freebsd.c)? Trouble is, not sure how to do that exactly, but anyway it seems more like a bug that was introduced. Attempting to push this upstream will reveal something I imagine :) > Current VIMAGE support is only for vboxnetflt and you are touching > vboxnetadp so that is probably why nobody used it before. I don't want to add this to the ports collection until the ports-slush is over (I don't want to bother portmgr for a repo-copy of f10 to c6 during this time). I try to get some time to have a look at it before. I don't know enough about CentOS, does it make sense to name it c62 or is the .2 just a maintenance release like Solaris 10 update X (in this case c6 is sensible, off course)?
