Booting FreeBSD 9, 8, 7, or 6 i386 disc1 when the controller is in RAID mode results in a hang at the BTX loader: ------------------------------------- Boot from CD : CD Loader 1.2 Building the boot loader arguments Looking up /BOOT/LOADER... Found Relocating the loader and the BTX Starting the BTX loader BTX loader 1.00 BTX version is 1.08 Consoles: internal video/keyboard BIOS CD is cd0 _ (continues to blink indefinitely) ------------------------------------- If the SATA mode is set to IDE instead of RAID in the BIOS, it boots normally with no problem. I've also tried disabling ACPI as a test but there was no change. Any suggestions on what else to try would be much appreciated. Unfortunately the box is remote and it takes quite a bit of time/expense for remote hands to power cycle the machine or swap discs after each attempt. I wish to make a transfer involving an amount of money estimated at 20,000.000.00 (Twenty Million British Pounds Sterling) and I feel strongly that you will be capable of receiving this fund into your account in your country. I am proposing to make this transfer to a designated bank account of your choice. I could not do this project alone since I am an insider in the bank. A zero account balance or a new account may be opened for this purpose. Thus, for your indulgence and support, I propose an offer of 25% of the total amount to be your compensation and commission after the transfer has been successfully concluded. reply me private (meersmanfr@ymail.com) 447045709908 Thanks and God bless. Unfortunately I think that's going to be a little too involved for this case as this particular machine is not on a LAN with DHCP. At this point since it's quite difficult to continue to debug remotely, I think we might just go with using the two drives in IDE mode and a gmirror for the OS, and have additional storage via a 3ware card. I am writing to seek your indulgence and assistance. Isn't xorg.conf processed at all anymore? I am under the impression that X stops probing when the configuration in xorg.conf works. Of course, I did not give X the drivers for probing for hardware which is not in the box. Xorg.0.log says this is Radeon 6400M Series at (--)PCI:* line. However, on "(II) RADEON: driver for ATI Radeon chipsets:" line, it has all models including 2600..6000,6200,6250,6300,6700..9800, but not 6400,6500,6600. Then it says: (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. It looks like that Radeon 6400-6600 Series are not supported in Xorg, or not in this FreeBSD version. ________________________________ From: Erich Dollansky To: Jin Guojun Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org; hardware@freebsd.org; x11@freebsd.org Sent: Thu, March 29, 2012 10:13:14 PM Subject: Re: X support on HP Eiltebook laptop Hi, On Friday 30 March 2012 11:53:03 Jin Guojun wrote: > Unfortunately, X and startx will crash too if X -configure crashes :-) is this a new feature? TTBOMK, all the Radeons newer than 4xxx (i.e., 5xxx and above) are meaningfully supported only via KMS, and thus not at all on FreeBSD. So using a 6xxx probably means you choose between vesa and... vesa. -- Matthew Fuller (MF4839) | fullermd@over-yonder.net Systems/Network Administrator | http://www.over-yonder.net/~fullermd/ On the Internet, nobody can hear you scream.
