So you're saying that you can suspend and resume the X220? Your blog does not really say too much about where feature support is with HEAD, though it must be pretty good. I have not run HEAD since 7 was released, but if HEAD handles my ThinkPad enough better, I'll go for it. (Guess I should install the KMS patches and get away from VESA, too.) And thanks so much for working on fixing up FUSE! I really need ntfs-3g (or some read/write NTFS support) and use it for a few other things on occasion. --=20 R. First, I think this writeup that you're doing is very cool, thank you for doing it! Anything we can do to get more people using HEAD is great. Second, I am glad to hear that you feel that the startup/shutdown times are "fast enough." The fact that our suspend/resume support needs improvement is one of the reasons I pound the drum so hard to squeeze every bit of speed out of the boot process. > I have not yet tried the > KMS patches, but may try them by the end of AsiaBSD. > >> And thanks so much for working on fixing up FUSE! Probably should not commit at a conference > but... I'd like to add security/truecrypt to the list of "please try" FUSE consumers. Thanks to Ryan's excellent efforts it is working on FreeBSD, but it's heavily tied to FUSE so it would be great if it continued to work. It should be pretty easy to create a file-backed encrypted container that you can use for basic testing. Bonus points if you can also use/test a device-backed container. Even a small USB key would be enough. I use the device-backed container for my USB backup drive. Not long ago, he committed a change to head that allowed me to suspend and resume with my Dell Precision M6500 (and it's equipped with an NVIDIA 3800M, which from all known reports was filed under "won't happen" in regard to s/r). Oh, and the Intel 5300 WiFi works like a charm after resume as well... In this short period, a regression was even introduced and (kinda sorta) fixed. Do you run up-to-date 10-CURRENT on your T60? -Brandon From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Mar 23 15:39:57 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 24ED31065688; Fri, 23 Mar 2012 15:39:57 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adrian.chadd@gmail.com) Received: from mail-lb0-f182.google.com (mail-lb0-f182.google.com [209.85.217.182]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2CBFB8FC16; Fri, 23 Mar 2012 15:39:55 +0000 (UTC) Received: by lboi15 with SMTP id i15so3406226lbo.13 for ; Fri, 23 Mar 2012 08:39:54 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:sender:in-reply-to:references:date :x-google-sender-auth:message-id:subject:from:to:cc:content-type :content-transfer-encoding; bh=YLaC1oeUkgDYOVB286TngfIR1qqLnKL5okU6KehGrHo=; b=ouWGfFm+D2negX14dumL9KqDxl+hrly8vMApQPV+mHCRTHO6xLA0lqsawniSz7zw+K dySgq+Zj1tNLxMXmpu8UT3eVgS/sxSlvHBM9CQBH7MwBStNrq1J4grXnpfL01DcIhqXt b4pwd38G44brkQ81wdOjoiNbYo+SYOwdBQvcM78FCzFa4+ZikRIDgjGTPoCMd/KWTymt BCOEp5M/q5YWE1V0a8kF71xL/39456lw8veAswlrgzSSZ/FlUa9oGFWzJldxwYCufVmk HAPbM0wzBhgKDR3EdDpaiGXlai5L7Eso8XYEtjuXJ84vP2k144cjB3845/lAy5q5usFB QIEg== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.152.132.132 with SMTP id ou4mr9180540lab.26.1332517194899; Fri, 23 Mar 2012 08:39:54 -0700 (PDT) Sender: adrian.chadd@gmail.com Received: by 10.112.40.200 with HTTP; Fri, 23 Mar 2012 08:39:54 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: <86k42hd155.wl%gnn@neville-neil.com> <86k42egt8h.wl%gnn@neville-neil.com> <4F6A313B.4030606@FreeBSD.org> Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2012 08:39:54 -0700 X-Google-Sender-Auth: 1mhjVTuFFDT6B5qudOy38Nr8f0w Message-ID: From: Adrian Chadd To: Brandon Gooch Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Cc: gnn@freebsd.org, Doug Barton , "freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org" Subject: Re: On the road with HEAD X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2012 15:39:57 -0000 On 22 March 2012 17:51, Brandon Gooch wrote: > > Not sure about special patches or what-not, but jkim has been working > on the suspend/resume code recently (even in the past few days). =A0Not > long ago, he committed a change to head that allowed me to suspend and > resume with my Dell Precision M6500 (and it's equipped with an NVIDIA > 3800M, which from all known reports was filed under "won't happen" in > regard to s/r). =A0Oh, and the Intel 5300 WiFi works like a charm after > resume as well... > > In this short period, a regression was even introduced and (kinda sorta) = fixed. > > Do you run up-to-date 10-CURRENT on your T60? Not on the ones I am using as a desktop/work machine. These run 9.0-RELEASE. I have a couple running -CURRENT but they don't run X or anything other than doing wifi regression testing. Adrian
