For those that don't read forums.freebsd.org: I posted a short review of "FreeBSD Device Drivers: A Guide for the Intrepid" by Joseph Kong, http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?p=175029 and wrote a serial lirc driver in the process. If you want to test it extract the shar, run `make DEBUG_FLAGS=-g' in the extracted uartlirc dir, then copy uartlirc.ko and uartlirc.ko.symbols to /boot/modules, reboot to loader prompt, do `load uartlirc.ko' and `boot -v'. (or add `uartlirc_load="YES"' to loader.conf and reboot.) After that make sure you have the comms/lirc port installed, then you should be able to run: mode2 -d /dev/lirc0 or if you have X, xmode2 -d /dev/lirc0 and see pulses and spaces reported when triggering a remote at the receiver, and using irrecord and lircd should work as normal too, see the pkg-message of the comms/lirc port which can be shown like this: pkg_info -D lirc\* |less Enjoy, :) Juergen From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 25 01:52:17 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: multimedia@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9FC91106564A for ; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 01:52:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from eyibf@walmarts.com) Received: from mail01.syd.optusnet.com.au (mail01.syd.optusnet.com.au [211.29.132.182]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ACA238FC14 for ; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 01:52:16 +0000 (UTC) Received: from server (static-58-108-210-167.optusnet.com.au [58.108.210.167] (may be forged)) (authenticated sender keithjohn) by mail01.syd.optusnet.com.au (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id q3P1JHIu007705 for ; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 11:52:14 +1000 Message-Id: <201204250152.q3P1JHIu007705@mail01.syd.optusnet.com.au> From: "Wal~Mart." My dvb-t reception at the moment isn't very good tho so I was only able to test one mux, and the af9015 tuners even got stream corruptions with that one. The drivers are a bit all over the place, and apparently they wont add them to the v4l tree due to a lack of key criteria. I have a version of these that supposedly work for linux 2.6 and were adapted from the manufacturers drivers (no longer available), and I'd like to test them using webcamd and I'm not entirely sure how. =C2=A0 I tried following this post: http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/webcamd-Adding-Linux-devices-td5580136= .html, [1] but I wasn't entirely sure how that would work with this particular driver. Can anyone offer some pointers? =C2=A0 The drivers I picked up here: http://jms.id.au/wiki/EzcapDvbAdapter. [2] =C2=A0 I only have a short time to do this as I may have to take the device back if I can't get it to work, so I need to work quickly in the next few days. My intention is to get a working device that can be available outside of tree for those who might need it, and maybe someone might be able to use it to get a native driver working or improve it for webcamd use. =C2=A0 It offers dvb as well as dab so I think it could be worth it. It would also put FreeBSD one step ahead of linux for once too :P =C2=A0 Ok, maybe I'm chasing geese or barking up trees, but bear with me please :) This may turn out to be even a little bit useful. And if I can get it to work I may be able to convince the missus to let me keep it :D =C2=A0 On another note, I have achieved success using the Digitech usb dvb tuner xc-4888 (usually available from Jaycar) using the afatech driver. I used the dvb-usb-af9015.fw v4.95 I extracted from a rpm and it worked fine. By the same method the KWorld 395U should work as well on linux and using webcamd on FreeBSD as both use the afatech driver and use a 9015 chipset. A note about using firmware and where it should be placed would be useful for webcamd users if someone could add it the docs somewhere. =C2=A0 Also if someone here has write access on the linuxtv.org v4l-dvb wiki they may like to add this info on the KWorld and Digitech pages. Kworld 395U is currently an unknown but listed. I don't have any access myself or I would. ------------------------- Message sent via Atmail Open - http://atmail.org/ Links: ------ [1] http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/webcamd-Adding-Linux-devices-td5580136= .html, [2] http://jms.id.au/wiki/EzcapDvbAdapter. I have a version of these just curious, what is the exact reason for keeping it out (or you have a pointer to the discussion) ? Slightly off-topic: The 2832-based sticks have become very popular recently because the stick can be used as a programmable spectrum analyzer, see e.g. http://op25.osmocom.org/wiki http://lists.osmocom.org/pipermail/osmocom-sdr/2012-March/000041.html I have tried the code at http://sdr.osmocom.org/trac/wiki/rtl-sdr and it builds and runs fine on FreeBSD (once you ignore the auto* stuff and build your 2-line makefile) cheers luigi From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 25 13:08:54 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2A926106566B for ; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 13:08:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from freebsd-multimedia@herveybayaustralia.com.au) Received: from mail.unitedinsong.com.au (mail.unitedinsong.com.au [150.101.178.33]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7EDFE8FC17 for ; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 13:08:53 +0000 (UTC) Received: from webmail.unitedinsong.com.au (abracadabra.herveybayaustralia.com.au [192.168.0.80]) by mail.unitedinsong.com.au (Postfix) with ESMTP id F3B7A5C29; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 23:22:31 +1000 (EST) MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: AtMail Atmail Open 1.04 Message-ID: <35960.1335360151@herveybayaustralia.com.au> To: "Luigi Rizzo" , X-Origin: 192.168.0.166 X-Atmail-Account: freebsd-multimedia@herveybayaustralia.com.au Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2012 00:22:31 +1100 From: freebsd-multimedia@herveybayaustralia.com.au Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: New driver opportunity - rtl2832u X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: freebsd-multimedia@herveybayaustralia.com.au List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 25 Apr 2012 13:08:54 -0000 =20 On Thu 26/04/12 12:02 AM , Luigi Rizzo wrote:On Wed, Apr 25, 2012 at 10:47:03PM +1100, freebsd-multimedia@herveybayaustralia.com.au wrote: > ... > I happen to have a usb dvb card which uses a rtl2832u chipset (MyGica T803 > - manufacturer says so happily says that they support linux - yeah right!). > The drivers are a bit all over the place, and apparently they wont add them > to the v4l tree due to a lack of key criteria. I have a version of these just curious, what is the exact reason for keeping it out (or you have a pointer to the discussion) ? I believe that the code hasn't been split into modules required by the v4l compatibility. Too monolithic? Found that on the linuxtv site. It was written by the manufacturer originally, after all. Also the licensing and authoring is questionable. The op25 link was the first match that came up on google, but what i really meant to point at was the rtl-sdr, and the usage i am envisioning is just a spectrum analyser. cheers luigi From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 25 19:07:35 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4963D106566C for ; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 19:07:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from barbara.xxx1975@libero.it) Received: from outrelay02.libero.it (outrelay02.libero.it [212.52.84.102]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C02DF8FC0A for ; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 19:07:34 +0000 (UTC) X-CTCH-Spam: Unknown X-CTCH-RefID: str=0001.0A0B0204.4F984B75.00C7,ss=1,re=0.000,fgs=0 X-libjamoibt: 1821 Received: from wmail4.libero.it (172.31.0.147) by outrelay02.libero.it (8.5.140) id 4F8D5D9E012139CC for freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org; Wed, 25 Apr 2012 21:07:33 +0200 Message-ID: <20204418.22224281335380853427.JavaMail.root@wmail4.libero.it> Date: Wed, 25 Apr 2012 21:07:33 +0200 (CEST) From: Barbara To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-SenderIP: 79.37.131.150 X-libjamv: /tsmJmbD3Zk= X-libjamsun: eXplIDh4S91bOzHufGh3tdflGHBQ3eULfRRsT10JaSw= Subject: multimedia/x264: distfile unfetchable X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Barbara List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 25 Apr 2012 19:07:35 -0000 It seems that x264-35cf912.tar.xz has not be uploaded to any mirror. ------------------------- Message sent via Atmail Open - http://atmail.org/ [5]" target=3D"_blank">http://atmail.org/ [3]" target=3D"_blank">http://atmail.org/ [6]" target=3D"_blank">http://atmail.= org/ Links: ------ [1] http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/webcamd-Adding-Linux-devices-td558013= 6.html [7]" target=3D"_blank">http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/webcamd-Adding-Linux= -devices-td5580136.html [4]" target=3D"_blank">http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/webcamd-Adding-Linu= x-devices-td5580136.html [8]" target=3D"_blank">http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/webcamd-Adding-Linux= -devices-td5580136.html, [2] http://jms.id.au/wiki/EzcapDvbAdapter [9]" target=3D"_blank">http://jms.id.au/wiki/EzcapDvbAdapter [5]" target=3D"_blank">http://jms.id.au/wiki/EzcapDvbAdapter [10]" target=3D"_blank">http://jms.id.au/wiki/EzcapDvbAdapter. _______________________________________________ freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-multimedia [11]" target=3D"_blank">http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-multime= dia [6]" target=3D"_blank">http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-multim= edia [12]" target=3D"_blank">http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-multime= dia To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-multimedia-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" ------------------------- Message sent via Atmail Open - http://atmail.org/ [13]" target=3D"_blank">http://atmail.org/ Links: ------ [1] http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/webcamd-Adding-Linux-devices-td558013= 6.html [14]" target=3D"_blank">http://freebsd.1045724.n5.nabble.com/webcamd-Adding-Linux= -devices-td5580136.html [2] http://jms.id.au/wiki/EzcapDvbAdapter [15]" target=3D"_blank">http://jms.id.au/wiki/EzcapDvbAdapter.
