How to make it crash: I had the same problem, but it only occurs when I plug in my ipod after the battery dies. I previously had to plug it into a Linux or Windows machine first and let it charge for a minute or two before I could plug into a FreeBSD machine without triggering the reset loop. Adding the quirk (with the correct product ID) fixes the problem for me. In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 7.x/8.x/9.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: multimedia/linux-realplayer broken because: unfetchable build errors: http://pointyhat.freebsd.org/errorlogs/i386-errorlogs/e.10.20120608131052/linux-realplayer-10.0.9.809.20070726_3.log (_Jun_13_02:24:52_UTC_2012) overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=linux-realplayer If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Please, help to understand about the -d flag. Am I doing something wrong, please? If I run $ jack_umidi -d /dev/umidi0.0 then I capture MIDI signal. It's ok. But now that I'm setting up my apps, I tried to separate the MIDI channels, routing every channel to its on linuxsampler channel, via jackd. So, if I run $ jack_umidi -d /dev/umidi0.[1-15] I have no MIDI signal. I tried with dd: $ dd if=/dev/umidi0.0 ^C0+43 records in 0+0 records out 0 bytes transferred in 2.739827 secs (0 bytes/sec) $ dd if=/dev/umidi0.[1-15] ^C0+0 records in 0+0 records out 0 bytes transferred in 2.547537 secs (0 bytes/sec) I programmed my keyboard (Roland XP-30) to send MIDI signal from various channels. No matter what the channel is sending, I always receive MIDI signal from /dev/umidi0.0 . I really belive the keyboard is sending MIDI through the channel desired because of the audio device blinks the status led - otherwise I could miss programming the keyboard. Usually only .0 is valid. Hum, you're right! I confused the devices with channels. That's why I connected them to some-input and I've got nothing. And my bad, I forgot to say that I used qjackctl but tried to confirm that I got no MIDI signal by using "dd" >> > > BTW: It shouldn't be too hard to update jack_umidi, to create N-subdevices, > based on the channel number, given some option -S for example. > I don't really believe my skills will help to do that right now, but I'm on the way. That will be a desirable feature for a future release, but please don't take it too much in consideration (I mean, I'm *not* claiming/demanding) as I'm probably one of the most enthusiastic users of jack_umidi (and I must repeat, uaudio too) because it really made possible to do a lot of cool things in my machine/hardware. Yes, it's working. I did not test all channels, can't test 'em all right now, but I'll do it in next few days. It is just perfect. These days I was spending time converting some windows proprietary samples I have to Giga Sampler Format, and now I can migrate from a Digital Audio Workstation windows based to FreeBSD. Thanks a lot. I was looking for a donate page at selasky.org - I really thought I saw a donate button sometime, am I wrong ? Do you have a donate page? I can't donate too much now, but I really think my action can motivate others to do it too. In case you don't have interest, I would consider this donation to the FreeBSD Foundation if it's good for you too. Does we have some? I know about LASH, but it's beyond my scope. I don't need to handle applications state, just the connections. I found a python script on the web (jackctl), but that script does not satisfy my needs - it requires too much user interactivity. So I worked on over the lsp.c (jack_lsp) and got a simple tool to do what I need. And last, but not least, do you guys think, if I polish the code (it's ugly now), this small and simple tool could be made in my small contribution to the ports collections? I'm not sure if a tool like this exists but I did not found or if it would be simple enough to go into ports - anyway, I'd love to do it because of the open source spirit and would be happy to give something simple I made back to the community. If you think it's ok, please let me know so I'll polish the code and test it better. Here is an example: $ jack-session Usage: jack-session [options] Save and restore connections of a jack session. Display options: -j, --jackserver Connect to the jack server named -s, --save Save connections to the session -r, --restore Restore connections from a session -h, --help Display this help message -v --version Output version information and exit -- Marcel Bonnet From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Aug 8 18:26:03 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 12C55106564A for ; Wed, 8 Aug 2012 18:26:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@c2i.net) Received: from swip.net (mailfe04.c2i.net [212.247.154.98]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7121C8FC16 for ; Wed, 8 Aug 2012 18:26:01 +0000 (UTC) X-T2-Spam-Status: No, hits=-1.0 required=5.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED Received: from [176.74.212.201] (account mc467741@c2i.net HELO laptop015.hselasky.homeunix.org) by mailfe04.swip.net (CommuniGate Pro SMTP 5.4.4) with ESMTPA id 304878376; Wed, 08 Aug 2012 20:25:54 +0200 From: Hans Petter Selasky To: Marcel Bonnet Date: Wed, 8 Aug 2012 20:26:24 +0200 User-Agent: KMail/1.13.7 (FreeBSD/9.1-PRERELEASE; KDE/4.8.4; amd64; ; ) References: <201208081822.27022.hselasky@c2i.net> In-Reply-To: X-Face: 'mmZ:T{)),Oru^0c+/}w'`gU1$ubmG?lp!=R4Wy\ELYo2)@'UZ24N@d2+AyewRX}mAm; Yp |U[@, _z/([?1bCfM{_"B<.J>mICJCHAzzGHI{y7{%JVz%R~yJHIji`y>Y}k1C4TfysrsUI -%GU9V5]iUZF&nRn9mJ'?&>O MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <201208082026.24105.hselasky@c2i.net> Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: jack_umidi and USB devices X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 08 Aug 2012 18:26:03 -0000 On Wednesday 08 August 2012 19:47:29 Marcel Bonnet wrote: > On 8 August 2012 13:22, Hans Petter Selasky wrote: > > On Wednesday 08 August 2012 08:00:44 Marcel Bonnet wrote: > >> On 7 August 2012 21:29, Hans Petter Selasky wrote: > >> > On Wednesday 08 August 2012 02:23:55 Hans Petter Selasky wrote: > >> >> On Wednesday 08 August 2012 02:09:55 Hans Petter Selasky wrote: > >> >> > > So, if I run > >> >> > > > >> >> > > > >> >> > > > >> >> > > $ jack_umidi -d /dev/umidi0.[1-15] > >> >> > >> >> Note: These are not channels, but devices. I think LASH does it in theory - but my problem is it seems to complicated for the end user to learn how to operate LASH and I've got some weird bugs with the GUI (at least running window maker). All I want is something simple to use: if I'm making music, I need something simple and fast so I can spend more time composing than fighting with the computer. That's why I started just by producing a command tool that is called manually by the user, but is easy to deal with, specially if the user is not very well familiar with unix. I'm going to update my home page, then I'll share the distfile and port I've made, in case you want to test and give me feedback. -- Marcel Bonnet From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Aug 10 05:45:23 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AF2E4106564A for ; Fri, 10 Aug 2012 05:45:23 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from marcelbonnet@gmail.com) Received: from mail-vc0-f182.google.com (mail-vc0-f182.google.com [209.85.220.182]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 60AC68FC08 for ; Fri, 10 Aug 2012 05:45:23 +0000 (UTC) Received: by vcbgb22 with SMTP id gb22so1528254vcb.13 for ; Thu, 09 Aug 2012 22:45:22 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=Agd92H3x8ike/0IBP9G0CZeB3pixd9EIIApVnahpIB8=; b=o75x1/7iv3CGat0Y8xydzgjZlF39/gZhkYaipPtyMGb4UkMClSZW8R2gZvCeWpCS1U VoD1Od3CDY4g+ruS5QpnTFolO/3cmT+CpljuJz3eWegUgul/IbS73C37mSXspNCnDkzc eLwBmkkQIT5IoPex8K0JD2f4lAqxmd539UMJEK3TCEVeKsffNzeXAC87UWHCsmI6EazS fEaJDiU6oQbapUg2Iyz7MVP3ft4t+2MEOQnNbHMDb9AyCLZo85rdGxsYXv8ctniXRAyV aO7xbHzC5MZ6JajWtAD/SQzyn00fo4mf1rEdqV1cJ1FQypcVBZgzPjRUdg7j21QxuHzr fVCA== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.58.33.234 with SMTP id u10mr1736043vei.49.1344577522556; Thu, 09 Aug 2012 22:45:22 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.220.155.135 with HTTP; Thu, 9 Aug 2012 22:45:22 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: <201208092109.47049.hselasky@c2i.net> Date: Fri, 10 Aug 2012 02:45:22 -0300 Message-ID: From: Marcel Bonnet To: Hans Petter Selasky Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: jack-session: a command tool I made to save/restore jack connections X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 10 Aug 2012 05:45:23 -0000 On 10 August 2012 00:22, Marcel Bonnet wrote: > On 9 August 2012 16:09, Hans Petter Selasky wrote: >> On Wednesday 08 August 2012 20:17:42 Marcel Bonnet wrote: >>> Hi, >>> >>> I do not have much knowledge about developing audio apps/tools and C >>> programming, that's why I would appreciate your considerations : >>> >>> I did not found on ports a command line tool that just handle >>> save/restore jack connections. I put the port and distfile I made in my home page. I'll be pleased if you try jack-session and find it a bit useful. Let me know what you think :D http://www.monovox.net.br/?freebsd-ports Don't be afraid, my home page is not english, but this section was translated! You'll see a link for the port dir (it is compressed) and for the distfile in case you need to fetch it manually. Just make install clean will be enough. Make deinstall is allowed if you want too!
