Hello. I'm using Doxygen quite a bit and went back to 1.8.0 because 1.8.2 doesn't create my PDF docs (I investigated a bit, found no solution and run out of time...). It's proably 10 years since I last needed a PS file and, back then, I used DVI just because I had to. I don't feel any need for them nowadays; PDF alone is fine for me. bye & Thanks av. I know you have to download it yourself but it expects an old version which can no longer be found. It would be nice if you would put down where you can make changes so that you can build a more recent version. It does have to go into /etc/make.conf to make changes but that if for a certification. I know I need this to connect to my work so will go back to Linux until I can get a work around for this. You could also try the new vbox from github which includes a patch to build correctly with GCC 4.6. http://github.com/decke/freebsd-vbox From owner-freebsd-ports@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Dec 31 09:43:49 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3D6EFE76 for ; Mon, 31 Dec 2012 09:43:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ohartman@zedat.fu-berlin.de) Received: from outpost1.zedat.fu-berlin.de (outpost1.zedat.fu-berlin.de [130.133.4.66]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DF0C58FC08 for ; Mon, 31 Dec 2012 09:43:48 +0000 (UTC) Received: from inpost2.zedat.fu-berlin.de ([130.133.4.69]) by outpost1.zedat.fu-berlin.de (Exim 4.69) with esmtp (envelope-from ) id <1TpbuN-003T0c-Q1>; Mon, 31 Dec 2012 10:43:47 +0100 Received: from e178027002.adsl.alicedsl.de ([85.178.27.2] helo=thor.walstatt.dyndns.org) by inpost2.zedat.fu-berlin.de (Exim 4.69) with esmtpsa (envelope-from ) id <1TpbuN-003lgE-M8>; Mon, 31 Dec 2012 10:43:47 +0100 Message-ID: <50E15E52.3060300@zedat.fu-berlin.de> Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2012 10:43:46 +0100 From: "O. You could also try the new vb= ox > from github which includes a patch to build correctly with GCC 4.6. >=20 > http://github.com/decke/freebsd-vbox Hello. As I wrote, I can tell the port's Makefile what I want to use as the compiler, somehow it seems that there is an override. I used USE_GCC=3Dan= y to force the usage of the legacy gcc, or even USE_GCC=3D4.6+ to use eithe= r gcc-4.6 or in my case gcc-4.7. Then I should see at compile time instead of "cc" "gcc" or "gcc4[67]". But it doesn't, it is always stuck with "cc". This happens to the port on FreeBSD 9.1-PRE and FreeBSD 10.0-CUR and I suspect there is something wrong with the ports build subsystem in that case. Or there is a hidden mistake I make on all systems. But I didn't change my /etc/make.conf or /etc/src.conf since the last time when the build still worked, that was end November or so. Well, since CLANG is now the base compiler on FreeBSD CURRENT, it should be asured that the port respects a delegation of the compiler to use. I think this is a bug which can be fixed, but I'm not sure whether I'm capable of finding it, since the portsystem seems very complex and setup with a lot of pitfalls. You were probably thinking of PREFIX, not DESTDIR. DESTDIR in ports-land should be an install directory wherein if I do... ./configure --prefix=3D/usr/local make all make install DESTDIR=3D/chroot/ It would install all (well, ok most if it needs to touch more of the base system) of the package files into /chroot/usr/local and pathing would be setup appropriately that way. > I'm not sure what I meant here either. I will try something like that. > > Thank-you for taking the time to reply Simon, I've thought about this item quite a bit and while I might not have hashed out all of the internal details, I think that it should go something like this: 0. Run standard build/install targets which will go and create necessary binaries into a predefined world dir. Once the installation is complete (installworld / distribution)... 1. Mount the necessary mountpoints. 2. Install the "host-compiled" tools into a predefined set of directories. Example: /chroot/h/bin /chroot/h/sbin /chroot/h/usr/bin /chroot/h/usr/libexec /chroot/h/usr/sbin 3. Do a nullfs overlay of the "host-compiled" tools on top of the target system's equivalent directories in order to provide the needed bits for executing the build. 4. Verify sanity for the install base (just in case the new binaries don't run on the host system due to KPI differences) with a basic check like we use for make in `upgrade_checks`. 5. Mock up the build environment to look like the target system, like what's described . 6. Jump into the world dir. 7. Start building/installing packages. Notes: I'm suggesting steps 2. and 3. because while fixing hardcoding in ports packages is a noble effort, there's just way too much work to be done in order to accomplish the job (we have other problems to contend with around the ports tree) and it's an ongoing battle trying to get everyone to use sane build methodologies (I'm making an assumption based on several projects I've used, but many devs aren't capable build system engineers because it takes a bit of mental skewing, so hardcoding abounds in a number of places). Doing this will allow us to have a working prototype quicker, so in the event that others wish to make the process more streamlined in the future, they could do so. Whether or not this handled in the FreeBSD build system or outside it is an implementation detail, but for the sake of modularity (and to keep KISS principle with the FreeBSD build system, which I would argue is complicated enough) I would say make them separate processes. Besides, we already have canned methods for doing this in NanoBSD, PicoBSD, etc already -- and they really could deserve some consolidation (speaking of which, have you looked at using these in zrouter?). You might want to look at FreeNAS 8.x's build architecture and use that as a starting point for how to do things. imp@ designed the initial system, I (gcooper@) modified it heavily, and jhixson@/jpaetzel@ modified it more after I left iXsystems in order to work with their plugin architecture. I can send you a copy of the system I was starting to architect ("Avatar") if you wish. Overall, I like the direction you're going in and I'm glad someone is picking this up. I greatly appreciate it because it's been on my laundry list of items that need to get done for some time :). Yes, it appears that something specific to your environment is making ports unhappy, but I have no idea what. You don't say what version of FreeBSD or whether you have moved to pkgng or are still using the old pkg_* tools. Not that I am sure I would know what was going on with this information, but it would certainly help. The issue with binutils is especially odd. Could you state what "extra binaries" were a problem? It almost sounds like some sort of tool chain issue. -- R. I can take a look at 173646, then I believe we will be ready to move forward with the chef update. Please send me the patch, and I can work on it.
