OK, I tested it this way too and no go. Still almost instant trap/panic/reboot when trying to write into null mounted directory, and, sometimes even just reading it shows similar behavior. I am using freshly csup'ped sources for every build, 10-CURRENT. In my case, nullfs is loaded as module, too, so if you could really use null mounted directory to work with, there is some other difference between us... In my case, command sequence mount_nullfs /data/src10 /usr/src csup /usr/share/examples/cvsup/standard-supfile yields almost immediate panic, reproducible 100 %. Just for completeness... boot cd:,\ppc\bootinfo.txt works for me with 9.0 rc3 powerpc64, boot cd:,\boot\loader cd:0 works for me with older 9.0 powerpc snapshop... Your error messages seems to be not related - first one points to some trouble reading CD (I got the same when I pulled CD out and then tried something), while the second one seems to show completelly other problem - at least on my PowerMac there are just temperature and voltage sensors, with fan control unit as well, hanging off iichb0. So I would just try to test CD for reading errors in another box, or maybe try to burn new one... The linux firmware image is agere_sta_fw.bin. Hardware identity is 0005:0001:0001:0002. Station identity is 001f:0001:0008:0046. Firmware is determined as Lucent/Agere 8.70. But it does still mean the fans will pick up in the event of a kernel panic. Can you paste in the few lines of output before that as well as tell us what model of G5 you have (PowerMacX,Y)? -Nathan
