I've set the kern.hz value to 2500. The lag with Xorg seems to have decreased. Please search google for mpc7455 product specification pdf because the mailing list owner does not allow attachments of 250kb. What's the highest kern.hz rate that can remain stable? Is it possible to set it according to the internal clock? I wasn't able to determine which page had the proper internal clock rate. The CPU in the QuickSilver is a 933MHz and listed are a minimum of 500MHz to 933MHz; by what methods within FreeBSD is the frequency controlled? Mr.Davis, the original email- which was rejected- had a file attached. You may search out the links in this email and the reference to the missing file. Were you able to get the zero VM working, or VMKit, on FreeBSD/PowerPC? Regarding your second email, does /usr/local/java/jar have execute permission (dumb question, but still helps to ask). If so, check what's going on with ktrace or truss, those may help you fix the problem. - Justin From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Apr 1 22:51:44 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 89BA71065672 for ; Sun, 1 Apr 2012 22:51:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jonc@chen.org.nz) Received: from mail-vx0-f182.google.com (mail-vx0-f182.google.com [209.85.220.182]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3B5358FC18 for ; Sun, 1 Apr 2012 22:51:44 +0000 (UTC) Received: by vcmm1 with SMTP id m1so1961884vcm.13 for ; Sun, 01 Apr 2012 15:51:43 -0700 (PDT) X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=google.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:x-originating-ip:in-reply-to:references:date :message-id:subject:from:to:cc:content-type:x-gm-message-state; bh=g2HaIqa8NXtph1hqwhMqnYnbzVqn4c6wA01kwCzoQ9k=; b=Fym26VoybwZ3H2Djil2FEj6ft4QDNaEmEQZSrTG2quGS2VhLTQ8BDFbkWZRshnZYn3 BWcG8/YHj5sYwUjxVQNm08XovJKhXMFXC05G1rb6BKj+TqMv51YQyowdrYfo7fC3nJ4B DtdztFhUUNj87wG3sd/PGRax5W1lpRmbNqTnmwHGEZl0FwMUSvEywYRXp4ZlRo9dl5NE vy1jy509j9abwIL+WdT2yKJw9DP+8/WzberyO38GqzcizDy7aythxH1B38GNo0iwXDmq TgItsKst/JJTMtbEX1DRfmqQGQ1Pq5Qz5gCGlm+oYZpj5CLdSX0wAQPmbS72rIM/OK5y Kd1g== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.220.232.10 with SMTP id js10mr2930528vcb.53.1333320703387; Sun, 01 Apr 2012 15:51:43 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.52.156.195 with HTTP; Sun, 1 Apr 2012 15:51:43 -0700 (PDT) X-Originating-IP: [203.99.129.1] In-Reply-To: References: Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2012 10:51:43 +1200 Message-ID: From: Jonathan Chen To: Super Bisquit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Gm-Message-State: ALoCoQkKc1IClx7tfmVMxrsXqlJONxUbNsWayXt/OXuiuXgTPGtIhF1yDsKO5PwDX009wFJ1kgPe Cc: freebsd-java , FreeBSD PowerPC ML Subject: Re: Problems with compiling java programs on FreeBSD from ports X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 01 Apr 2012 22:51:44 -0000 On 2 April 2012 10:42, Super Bisquit wrote: > /usr/local/java/jre JChessBoard.jar > /usr/local/java/jre permission denied > > I'm receiving a permission denied error even with > /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java as root. /usr/local/java/jre is a directory. When I do exec chmod 0755 $PWD in /usr/local/java/bin it then exits; I'm wondering if this is normal behavior. The problem also occurs in /usr/local/java/jre/bin. Normally, stating chmod $VALUE works; yet, maybe if I execute chmod +x it will work better? Let's see ... Nope, the same thing occurs. even with ls -l /usr/local/java/bin I receive a permission denied error. Initially when doing a portsnap fetch and extract it was taking hours to perform the verify phase. It didn't hang because I could see it decompressing each tarfile but it was taking a long time - I left it running for several hours and in the end I actually commented out the following in portsnap fetch_snapshot_verify() { #while read F; do # if [ "`gunzip -c snap/${F} | ${SHA256} -q`" != ${F} ]; then # echo "snapshot corrupt." # return 1 # fi #done return 0 } which at least allowed me to get ports going although it's not an ideal solution, but the system was running terribly slow. At least spawning processors was horrendously slow. I recompiled the kernel and disabled these options as they seemed to be enabled by default for the 64bit kernel but not the 32bit. #options KDB #Enable the kernel debugger #options DDB #Support DDB #options DEADLKRES #Enable the deadlock resolver #options INVARIANTS #Enable calls of extra sanity checking #options INVARIANT_SUPPORT #Extra sanity checks of internal structures, required by INVARIANTS #options WITNESS #Enable checks to detect deadlocks and cycles #options WITNESS_SKIPSPIN #Don't run witness on spinlocks for speed #options MALLOC_DEBUG_MAXZONES=8 # Separate malloc(9) zones and it appears and feels much faster now. I was wondering if these debugging options are on for a reason or whether it was an oversight? Secondly I noticed the system always booted up with a processor speed of 1333mhz. I searched the archives and found that auto-booting FreeBSD from OF and not using either the OF prompt or the 'Alt' menu brought the system up at the full speed of 2Ghz. I guess that what's powerd doesn't work either - no dynamic frequency scaling for this mac. Anyway the real stumbling block is getting X to work. I did see a similar issue in the archives but wondered if anyone at resolve it. My graphics card is as follows: vgapci0@pci0:0:16:0: class=0x030000 card=0x41521002 chip=0x41521002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' device = 'RV350 AR [Radeon 9600]' class = display subclass = VGA bar [10] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 32, base 0xb0000000, size 268435456, enabled bar [14] = type I/O Port, range 32, base 0x400, size 256, enabled bar [18] = type Memory, range 32, base 0xa0000000, size 65536, enabled cap 02[58] = AGP v3 8x 4x SBA disabled cap 01[50] = powerspec 2 supports D0 D1 D2 D3 current D0 When starting X with the radeon driver it always segfaults with the following: Caught signal 10 (Bus error: 10). Server aborting Curiously dmesg shows this: pid 17612 (Xorg), uid 0: exited on signal 6 (core dumped) I've tried just about every incarnation of xorg.conf with the radeon driver but the result is always the same. I also installed radeontool from ports and interesting when running it as follows: # radeontool regs RADEON_DAC_CNTL=ac160ff0a000000 Bus error (core dumped) I also downloaded the latest version of radeontool (1.6.3) and it does the following: # ./radeontool regs RADEON_DAC_CNTL ff60c10a RADEON_DAC_EXT_CNTL 00000000 RADEON_DAC_MACRO_CNTL 00000806 RADEON_DAC_CNTL2 00000000 RADEON_TV_DAC_CNTL 00000103 RADEON_DISP_OUTPUT_CNTL 00000000 RADEON_CONFIG_MEMSIZE 08000000 RADEON_AUX_SC_CNTL 00000000 RADEON_CRTC_EXT_CNTL 00000000 RADEON_CRTC_GEN_CNTL 03000200 RADEON_CRTC2_GEN_CNTL 02000200 Bus error (core dumped) So it gets further but the end result is the same. I guess reading a particular register on the graphics card is causing the bus error. I don't believe the hardware is faulty as the system runs perfectly stable in Leopard, no hangs, crashes or graphical artefacts etc. So where can I go from here? Any ideas how I could fix this? -- Ian Chapman. I don't particularly care to use the tool. Only using it to illustrate that it also behaves as X does but doesn't rely on X. At least the OpenBIOS implementation relies on these flags. This commit fixes the panic seen on OS-X when inserting a FreeBSD/ppc disc. Additionally OpenBIOS recognizes the partition where the boot code is located. This lets us load a FreeBSD/ppc PowerMac kernel inside qemu. You will need to do the following. Pastebinit /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Do a boot -vv from the comand line, dmesg >& dmesg-verbose.txt and pastebinit also. Send these to the following addresses for help: danfe@freebsd.org, nwhitehorn@freebsd.org, grehan@freebsd.org, jhibbits@freebsd.org, and freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org. In general, there is no need to CC me; I am still reading this mailing list, and will speak up if I think I have something to add. :-) If anyone need to contact me via email, pay attention, my old email address on this list will dissappear soon (I changed ISP). Sadly, my G5 has been collecting dust for some time now, I haven't been able to find the time to do anything with it. Hello Super Bisquit What you need is objconv, fetch it from http://www.agner.org/optimize, midway on that page under "Object file converter". Used it myself to build flatassembler for MacOS X 10.5 and 10.6, as you only get an ELF object file. I said up front this was a MacOS X/ppc package that I was providing as an example that Zero worked on PowerPC (with a code base that supported FreeBSD). I'll repeat this once more. The code base is likely very close to supporting FreeBSD/ppc using the Zero VM. The hard part is going to be doing the bootstraping for the initial build. Here is a link to a post that goes into some of the details on how you can accomplish this. It's what I did when I did a FreeBSD/sparc64 port using Zero. http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=89377+0+archive/2008/freebsd-java/20080203.freebsd-java -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 3 10:45:24 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 72D2F106566B for ; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 10:45:24 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from packages@amiga-hardware.com) Received: from mirkwood.electric-dreams.org (mirkwood.electric-dreams.org [IPv6:2a01:7e00::f03c:91ff:fe93:1cd]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DF2C48FC0A for ; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 10:45:23 +0000 (UTC) Received: from nyx.homenet.lan (124-169-239-244.dyn.iinet.net.au [124.169.239.244]) (authenticated bits=0) by mirkwood.electric-dreams.org (8.14.5/8.14.4) with ESMTP id q33AjH1L012722 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-CAMELLIA256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO) for ; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 10:45:21 GMT Message-ID: <4F7AD4BB.6060502@amiga-hardware.com> Date: Tue, 03 Apr 2012 18:45:15 +0800 From: Ian Chapman User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:11.0) Gecko/20120329 Thunderbird/11.0.1 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org References: <4F798459.4000301@amiga-hardware.com> <20120402131132.78578915@zeta.dino.sk> <4F79A964.2070501@amiga-hardware.com> <4F79BD08.2040605@amiga-hardware.com> <4F79CC19.8040707@amiga-hardware.com> <4F79D208.5040405@amiga-hardware.com> In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Spam-Status: No, score=-2.9 required=10.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,BAYES_00 autolearn=ham version=3.3.2 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.2 (2011-06-06) on mirkwood.electric-dreams.org Subject: Re: Newbie - Mac G5 Dual PPC 970 @ 2Ghz X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 03 Apr 2012 10:45:24 -0000 On 04/03/2012 01:16 AM, Super Bisquit wrote: > Same outcome. The Quicksilver uses an agp radeon 7500 while the B&W uses the Mach ati 128 card. As long as the card is in the proper slot, it should be recognized by the system. Out of curiosity, have you tried running the powerpc 32 bit version of FreeBSD on it? The directions for adding the ftp package path are on the last page of the forum tutorial. I'm also curious as to what the performance would be if you installed it into the server. Open Firmware isn't x86 BIOS; this makes me wonder why Xorg is even looking for BIOs. Also, I've read that theatre and TV options may need to be disabled for now. I'm going to add more later to the reply. I want to look up your model and see what the Logic board is with the main graphics- no ppc64 here, just ppc32. > > My apologies for not being able to find you a definitive solution. >> > > Hey no worries, I really appreciate all the help you've given :-) > > > -- > Ian Chapman. > ______________________________**_________________ > freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/**mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ppc > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ppc-unsubscribe@**freebsd.org > " > From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 3 15:16:44 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 42264106566B; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 15:16:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) Received: from misty.eyesbeyond.com (gerbercreations.com [71.39.140.16]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EB25F8FC08; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 15:16:43 +0000 (UTC) Received: from misty.eyesbeyond.com (localhost.eyesbeyond.com [127.0.0.1]) by misty.eyesbeyond.com (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id q33FGfoq052692; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 08:16:42 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) Received: (from glewis@localhost) by misty.eyesbeyond.com (8.14.4/8.14.4/Submit) id q33FGfeb052691; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 08:16:41 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from glewis@eyesbeyond.com) X-Authentication-Warning: misty.eyesbeyond.com: glewis set sender to glewis@eyesbeyond.com using -f Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2012 08:16:41 -0700 From: Greg Lewis To: Super Bisquit Message-ID: <20120403151641.GA52490@misty.eyesbeyond.com> References: <20120403061108.GA46679@misty.eyesbeyond.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.21 (2010-09-15) Cc: freebsd-java@freebsd.org, freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Problems with compiling java programs on FreeBSD from ports X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 03 Apr 2012 15:16:44 -0000 On Tue, Apr 03, 2012 at 10:43:16AM -0400, Super Bisquit wrote: > On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 2:11 AM, Greg Lewis wrote: > > > On Mon, Apr 02, 2012 at 08:20:05PM -0400, Super Bisquit wrote: > > > Here is where the problem becomes apparent. > > > > > > file /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java > > > /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java: Mach-o executable ppc > > > brandelf -t FreeBSD /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java > > > brandelf: file '/usr/local/java/jre/bin/java' is not ELF format > > > > > > Mr. Lewis, do you know who created the package? So, whatever machines you have, at least one of them will have to have a compatible working JDK on it. You could, for example, install Solaris on the Sparc64 machine and run a JDK there, but you have to have _something_ with a running JDK. Also, since the bootstrap JDK isn't on the same machine you're building on you'll have to use the technique described in the post I sent a link to above. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 3 23:46:36 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5F70D10657C9; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 23:46:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from superbisquit@gmail.com) Received: from mail-pz0-f44.google.com (mail-pz0-f44.google.com [209.85.210.44]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8B4118FC15; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 23:46:35 +0000 (UTC) Received: by dadz14 with SMTP id z14so895262dad.17 for ; Tue, 03 Apr 2012 16:46:35 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=OZs6m3K2NhlGmg3wu8Z4T5lLC702/VUJHiuQuWlfbJI=; b=mQEqFw/do7hh4seeO4dPhkgd8aDhKStZAGGUex8tXESybikBzT+O2lcwjthTw1r5LB cBdGXocp4KhuUIFlrKNGv+/a52ysYY6etBeJ/3uxFNqGc+tIcBo2enf5PxJ8Bg/DlYRg 6ZkHH0H8UgZ89rmg3nOiNtw0FoJVkty2CNtG7TYfo8NeSjj7/+KLDCdWszGHuelr/mdM 0WpSMdPYEaiKLe1tU+pgR+3/0nEERegT0nbOKc5NBmvH/mQnlsb7Q4VIGtscD4dqp82w LadF91WMaW+0tAYFjy7gCMw37/GUqsjqRChOuKuG/SPo7v01tCcjhucM+js3CljUl6PW DHPg== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.68.200.104 with SMTP id jr8mr29213442pbc.164.1333496795162; Tue, 03 Apr 2012 16:46:35 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.68.189.103 with HTTP; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 16:46:35 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: <20120403151641.GA52490@misty.eyesbeyond.com> References: <20120403061108.GA46679@misty.eyesbeyond.com> <20120403151641.GA52490@misty.eyesbeyond.com> Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2012 19:46:35 -0400 Message-ID: From: Super Bisquit To: Greg Lewis Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: freebsd-java@freebsd.org, freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Problems with compiling java programs on FreeBSD from ports X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 03 Apr 2012 23:46:36 -0000 On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 11:16 AM, Greg Lewis wrote: > On Tue, Apr 03, 2012 at 10:43:16AM -0400, Super Bisquit wrote: > > On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 2:11 AM, Greg Lewis > wrote: > > > > > On Mon, Apr 02, 2012 at 08:20:05PM -0400, Super Bisquit wrote: > > > > Here is where the problem becomes apparent. > > > > > > > > file /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java > > > > /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java: Mach-o executable ppc > > > > brandelf -t FreeBSD /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java > > > > brandelf: file '/usr/local/java/jre/bin/java' is not ELF format > > > > > > > > Mr. Lewis, do you know who created the package? Please read my email again. Nowhere did I say you had to use Solaris. It was simply an example of something you _could_ use. FWIW, simply looking up the latest OpenSolaris release page would have told you that you didn't have to pay for it. Another quick search would have also indicated that there are openjdk-6 packages for Debian/sparc if you wanted a Linux option. There are plenty of options here for you. Pick one and give it a try. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 4 01:26:03 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DE8A4106564A; Wed, 4 Apr 2012 01:26:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from superbisquit@gmail.com) Received: from mail-pz0-f44.google.com (mail-pz0-f44.google.com [209.85.210.44]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 99D838FC08; Wed, 4 Apr 2012 01:26:02 +0000 (UTC) Received: by dadz14 with SMTP id z14so1155415dad.17 for ; Tue, 03 Apr 2012 18:26:02 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=2oD4awej98bWUywhTOur5q3uVRPJqyu9t0NWSxnLaZY=; b=EecKSizqotnNZz+bNYAbyk67Pup2BGGMzH3z1IEt0Pn2IUt4sZhFbpym2uJaVnHxJ/ 3ZXc+Ar3Jh5Q2MYNhszOa/3UZARpEe35ti7VhJltAvjz8D7e9DNAHBEBrwEfb8s6HZ5F TQfQj9+oZFtC06X6EOaA68sEQOOc+VufNME0/eT8kvZmRHB4lY8N1W0c+VK850oGE3/+ C2Ug5VUCNSp74H0X5mDyKh+vnz3/4f4SQR7xIB/CO8rBsbMO4hU+39VQxH+caS1asTAI VfYYIYyZRJxNwpdI5BgD0Ao2JzZ3rvSlY1A/BEZoIB2qSrAqY/dGqueP73fdfuw6cKLX lsEA== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.68.194.40 with SMTP id ht8mr296293pbc.122.1333502762323; Tue, 03 Apr 2012 18:26:02 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.68.189.103 with HTTP; Tue, 3 Apr 2012 18:26:02 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: <20120404010534.GG10821@dormouse.experts-exchange.com> References: <20120403061108.GA46679@misty.eyesbeyond.com> <20120403151641.GA52490@misty.eyesbeyond.com> <20120404010534.GG10821@dormouse.experts-exchange.com> Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2012 21:26:02 -0400 Message-ID: From: Super Bisquit To: Jason Helfman Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org, freebsd-java@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Problems with compiling java programs on FreeBSD from ports X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 04 Apr 2012 01:26:03 -0000 On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 9:05 PM, Jason Helfman wrote: > On Tue, Apr 03, 2012 at 07:46:35PM -0400, Super Bisquit thus spake: > > On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 11:16 AM, Greg Lewis >> wrote: >> >> On Tue, Apr 03, 2012 at 10:43:16AM -0400, Super Bisquit wrote: >>> > On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 2:11 AM, Greg Lewis >>> wrote: >>> > >>> > > On Mon, Apr 02, 2012 at 08:20:05PM -0400, Super Bisquit wrote: >>> > > > Here is where the problem becomes apparent. >>> > > > >>> > > > file /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java >>> > > > /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java: Mach-o executable ppc >>> > > > brandelf -t FreeBSD /usr/local/java/jre/bin/java >>> > > > brandelf: file '/usr/local/java/jre/bin/java' is not ELF format >>> > > > >>> > > > Mr. Lewis, do you know who created the package? Jason, it's i386/amd64 only but thanks for the help. Chris, I don't have any way of burning a DVD right now. Carlos, interestingly enough, there is a Mach-O to ELF converter but I believe it is for MacOS i386/amd64 only. I may be wrong about my conclusion here. Justin, I need to look at the Makefile because I received the "too many symbolic links" error even when I did not set the prefix. This is about JamVM. So this means I should be able to bootstrap it? I can't remember if 6 or 7 is on it. Also, since the binary works on RedHat, it should install onto Fedora. All downloads support both 32-bit and 64-bit processors. 64-bit mode is automatically selected if at least 900 megabytes of memory (RAM) are available. " Working on it sounds like a fun project and a topic for another mailing list. It's been a long day. Thanks for the help and suggestions. See you peoples later, night. I have plenty of disk space so I will also do a 32bit install next week when I'm back as I'm out of town from tomorrow. I also have Fedora 16 PPC and will try a test install to see if Xorg works or not. Booting the DVD in graphics mode just gives me a black screen but I suspect that might be because it needs the "ReverseDDC" option as I have a monitor connected to the DVI port but none on the ADC port, but I can't be sure till I actually install it. > I'm also curious as to what the performance would be if you installed it > into the server. > Open Firmware isn't x86 BIOS; this makes me wonder why Xorg is even > looking for BIOs.
