I installed 9.0-RELEASE on sparc64 with a clean disk using the partition scheme that was suggested by the installer. I enabled crash dumps (dumpdev="AUTO"). But at boot the dumpon command fails, apparently because the swap partition is too small. $ dmesg | grep memory real memory = 805306368 (768 MB) avail memory = 762691584 (727 MB) # swapinfo -h Device 1K-blocks Used Avail Capacity /dev/ada0b 746424 0B 729M 0% # dumpon -v /dev/ada0b /dev/ada0b is smaller than physical memory There are no minidumps on sparc64. So unless I reinstall there does not appear to be a way to save crash dumps. Maybe swapon(8) is being overly restrictive, I don't know. I'm wanting to donate it to one of the developers if it would be needed. I'll pay all shipping costs, although I'd prefer it be in continental North America. Overseas is alright, but will cost me a bit more in shipping. Alternately, if noone wants the device, I'd like to know how to access the Serial A port at boot. I tried null modem and straight through adapters and got no love. I even tried the "flip the front switch to unlock and hold power for 10s" to reset it to Serial A and got nothing. I await your responses. -Travis From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Feb 1 09:43:45 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ECE07106566C for ; Wed, 1 Feb 2012 09:43:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from linimon@lonesome.com) Received: from mail.soaustin.net (pancho.soaustin.net [76.74.250.40]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CB9708FC0C for ; Wed, 1 Feb 2012 09:43:45 +0000 (UTC) Received: by mail.soaustin.net (Postfix, from userid 502) id 3435D5620E; Wed, 1 Feb 2012 03:43:45 -0600 (CST) Date: Wed, 1 Feb 2012 03:43:45 -0600 From: Mark Linimon To: Teb Tengri Message-ID: <20120201094345.GA15125@lonesome.com> References: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.20 (2009-06-14) Cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Primepower 250 Donation X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 01 Feb 2012 09:43:46 -0000 Sounds like a pretty weighty toy :) I've kind of forgotten about the serial port wiring on sparcs, maybe someone could remind me. (I have several v210s here which rely on "Cisco console cables". That's probably what you want. It's too late at night to try to figure out the part number.) fwiw, whatever financial support for moving sparcs around (including mine), e.g. to colos, needs to come from the community: AFAICT it's no longer a priority for the developers/committers. As it turns out, the VM apparently has problems with machines that have large holes in the physical address space, causing the kmem_suballoc() call in kmeminit() to fail with a VM_KMEM_SIZE_SCALE of 1. Using a value of 2 allows these, namely Blade 1500 with 2GB of RAM, to boot.
