(The latter with the "gavin-usb-controller-patch" however worked very well on this system!) Unfortunately, 8.2-STABLE didn't improve. On the contrary, no usb devices at all work after resume, so this is kind of a regression. I tested with a couple of different versions of the usb system and concluded that it is commit r229370 that makes the difference. After resume, the console says: uhub1: at usbus1, port 1, addr 1 (disconnected) uhub2: at usbus2, port 1, addr 1 (disconnected) uhub3: at usbus3, port 1, addr 1 (disconnected) uhub0: at usbus0, port 1, addr 1 (disconnected) What can I do to debug this further? Hi, Some more info: The code that executes the USB suspend and resume is located in: /sys/dev/usb/controller/usb_controller.c All devices should be re-connected again at resume. If you have USB audio devices, try suspend/resume w/o those plugged. --HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Feb 7 23:59:14 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 56E181065696 for ; Tue, 7 Feb 2012 23:59:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nayak_purushotham@yahoo.com) Received: from nm27-vm0.bullet.mail.ac4.yahoo.com (nm27-vm0.bullet.mail.ac4.yahoo.com [98.139.52.244]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id DAE198FC0C for ; Tue, 7 Feb 2012 23:59:13 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [98.139.52.197] by nm27.bullet.mail.ac4.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 07 Feb 2012 23:59:13 -0000 Received: from [98.139.52.156] by tm10.bullet.mail.ac4.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 07 Feb 2012 23:59:13 -0000 Received: from [127.0.0.1] by omp1039.mail.ac4.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 07 Feb 2012 23:59:13 -0000 X-Yahoo-Newman-Property: ymail-3 X-Yahoo-Newman-Id: 127477.61363.bm@omp1039.mail.ac4.yahoo.com Received: (qmail 66428 invoked by uid 60001); 7 Feb 2012 23:59:13 -0000 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=yahoo.com; s=s1024; t=1328659153; bh=2TSApK/aiIyg41EbdDJcdn3UeQTQiPaxy8ZD0nQ5Jrg=; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:X-Mailer:References:Message-ID:Date:From:Reply-To:Subject:To:MIME-Version:Content-Type; b=jpS4sPOXF8EiDT62iFOimqeK2lQr46OXcVcqM/knJKwNXE495tg3gQ2wsduAN1nv3Qtdl47nPerO6rZ3NH5i2wcKqHASbO3zlqyqx5Prin6PJQv7i6w0EFweyeBrs8XSQAsb9Pq/mO77wCyxe3TVRc5rLc1CqgHdAqRtiZ2D46Q= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:X-Mailer:References:Message-ID:Date:From:Reply-To:Subject:To:MIME-Version:Content-Type; b=YRDi1j5w+t6fSxYMBnz6DyGiX2YV72k6sNvakb2MQLznwhdxYoJRcie2XSS0R8UrIysVjItOgWdpWOXcbHUgMZZGK2n/xB1LvTkmAajfjhx3dmY2mgZHyyEQfJxSwwT4N8uYWQ5Cq+ZDqU00Yo8TyG/qqwHZ9fEFBFUU9s3HEwQ=; X-YMail-OSG: ew3OpdYVM1lw2kNgXj9956RaGAkhE6vu2LUXyiQJ2W72qqg 4pUCOeZJFqIHxL93DLA6w2A.qik4sDIXawJZfMhdEFSs793gh_EyQJWCEXd2 hrq14cSKS5cPat.D5L1ykCRW5xmrQ0KAF4JBLyJLw19IOnn7WR.kBKrvAwJn VqRpTsQSFbYyxOuoveFEGcxkgyoM_D3zB5FbQPxmlNuY313TO8LVYffIHKSA vLBjhTUAKhrkAuRBBOJnqc6_qlaCReQfQACnOHDdMRJQGwvSsSns25O235jc MoQHGA7gTc9WSCIGg1ZotF2Yi_GFn5KA3bYfJLRpxw0TBSTRxxUP0C8tjM6t JC1cp84shY_jlWPiOOo6avfOfdIVbA9Jf5ayLb6DHZ_j.s87BFF8liycotJU VME0QK6eSRQjEcx8mczP6brDTDb7Z3udZgGaY.PZVY731kGXZ4OjzQAsVbf_ cMgmQQ.DXDI4lKYGiylJgrq11FQ-- Received: from [68.45.182.235] by web65903.mail.ac4.yahoo.com via HTTP; Tue, 07 Feb 2012 15:59:12 PST X-Mailer: YahooMailWebService/0.8.116.331537 References: <1328486659.93108.YahooMailNeo@web65904.mail.ac4.yahoo.com> <201202061730.31119.hselasky@c2i.net> <201202061805.38647.hselasky@c2i.net> Message-ID: <1328659152.54775.YahooMailNeo@web65903.mail.ac4.yahoo.com> Date: Tue, 7 Feb 2012 15:59:12 -0800 (PST) From: Purushotham Nayak To: Hans Petter Selasky , "freebsd-usb@freebsd.org" MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="-578491218-1310596410-1328659152=:54775" X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: Subject: Re: Bose USB Audio No Playback X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Purushotham Nayak List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 07 Feb 2012 23:59:14 -0000 ---578491218-1310596410-1328659152=:54775 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi Hans,=0A=0A=0AWhen I just run usbconfig I get =0Augen0.2: at usbus0, cfg=3D0 md=3DHOST spd=3DFULL (12Mbps) pwr=3D= ON=0A=0A=A0I ran,=0Ausbconfig -d ugen0.2=A0 dump_device_desc dump_curr_conf= ig_desc=0AI've attached the output with this e-mail.=0A=0AI pulled out the = bose usb and ran=0Asysctl hw.usb.uaudio.debug=3D15 =0Aand then plugged back= in and it's still the same in dmesg. You can also set this in: /boot/loader.conf I think the problem is that that your device is having a lot of channels, and should really be using High Speed USB. The device might not work correctly when connected through a High Speed HUB. Connect it directly to your PC/MAC! PS Hans re. > You should try to get an obduction report if he just died like that. Yes thanks, my thought too, (& when I peg it I'd like someone to check if I snuffed it naturally, or was 'helped' on my way ;-). A good programmer considers all possibilities however remote :-) However we believe it was natural, ill health. What if this > data is written at the moment a device is unplugged? > > --HPS The key is that the filesystem has to get an error back if a write fails or was unable to be completed. It can then take evasive action to avoid doing something that would cause an inconsistent filesystem (which triggers the panic). Admittedly the usual action is to refuse to do any further writes to the filesystem until its integrity is checked, but that is better than a panic. So, I am guessing that somehow an I/O error happened that was not reflected back to the filesystem. Apparently this lack of error reporting is possible in the presence of a broken chipset or when a device is unplugged. While there have been many later improvements to the USB subsystem since this report was filed, lack of error reporting is still possible in which case filesystem corruption and panic will happen. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=158711
