When i switch it, it remains on (light is on) Ive tried editing if_bwn.c, removing the check for rf_onoff() but to no avail, ill have to read the source more in depth. I wonder what else i can do to resolve this issue. Extra Info: on linux (specifically archlinux), the rf switch doesnt do anything, doesnt even trigger a acpi event. On fbsd no acpi event is trigger either (debug.acpi.enabel_debug_object=1) From owner-freebsd-wireless@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Aug 12 02:54:52 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 09507106564A; Sun, 12 Aug 2012 02:54:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adrian.chadd@gmail.com) Received: from mail-pb0-f54.google.com (mail-pb0-f54.google.com [209.85.160.54]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 851D38FC08; Sun, 12 Aug 2012 02:54:51 +0000 (UTC) Received: by pbbrp2 with SMTP id rp2so5426265pbb.13 for ; Sat, 11 Aug 2012 19:54:45 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=fghXDax6iX4PRGDzodJSE0kI6huHWOfZgJ5cxZsWKms=; b=nrrDo71atOI7KZIryjQ46zxB8geBpgQaSMZ5gWfbqBrGoczrMU5g/YeJFTKkv4je6G NL60P1lAsmxpOBgoZgV5fIz3fJ7mnBvjrWVdGGJu3XTcFUZ4cEQ9FFf9GF0Lq+LJLSux LWvfGlpNFrcMFoMwtQAqUKZUemsM9EzCePjzMgtmZBelh8+Xt64ul7sLH8++YpNvixwQ PyCXnGJ/ZgOV77E7YMlIomTGEeRXg8PgWGpp1J7KFJRhAczqjWhmoVKSlZUa5A5uho4z Z2hhdwy1lrV3Zm4rBRhpP5IBuhwD3F2X6eUsMiT47/o91BkzbN/fPmg5dULPGgT+WtNf /MQw== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.68.236.102 with SMTP id ut6mr23884179pbc.113.1344740085431; Sat, 11 Aug 2012 19:54:45 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.68.71.135 with HTTP; Sat, 11 Aug 2012 19:54:45 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.68.71.135 with HTTP; Sat, 11 Aug 2012 19:54:45 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: Date: Sat, 11 Aug 2012 19:54:45 -0700 Message-ID: From: Adrian Chadd To: skydrome Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org, weongyo@freebsd.org Subject: Re: [bwn] bcm4311 Acer Aspire One rf switch X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussions of 802.11 stack, tools device driver development." I think this particular bug (kern/170513) is different to what you've been seeing. Those descriptors don't look like they actually _have_ the aggregate bit set. It's almost like what I'm queueing to the hardware is broken. Please update to -HEAD and retest. If it's still broken (read: my recent fixes to the restart DMA code didn't fix it) then I'll have to start digging into things to see how it is there's only one buffer in the aggregate list but bf_state.bfs_nframes > 1. Thanks! Let's try to nail this one down quickly so I can shift onto trying to design a working power save management framework and filtered frames support so we can finally advertise 11n support by default. The basic spirit of them works, but there are some improvements to be made. * The node generation count doesn't have to be checked. We know the node table is locked; the reason the node generation is there is because in the older way of doing it, the node table lock is released each trip through the loop. * 'goto restart' on each successful addition to the node table turns an O(n) operation into an O(n^2) operation. That's just plain going to suck. * It's always good practice to alloc and free memory in the same function or module and doing it consistently. The patch allocates it in iterate_nodes() but frees it in iterate_nt() if there's an error. That kind of inconsistent handling could cause problems. * There's no need to decrement the node scan generation on error. It's fine the way it is. * .. which means if you don't decrement the scangen in each node, you can release the node table / node iteration table locks earlier, avoiding any LOR with ieee80211_node_free(). I have a replacement patch which I'm currently testing out. I'll push it into -HEAD today. Thanks again to Kim and PseudoCylon for finding and fixing the problem! Sorry for jumping in that late, but I've a bit of a bellyache with that change especially the one which got committed. You've turned a totally safe function call into one which can fail, and malloc will fail eventually, therefore all callers need to either handle the error case or need to clearly state that it is not necessary to do something. I have the feeling that you've introduced some cases where due to lost calls the whole system might be hanging (not as hard as a deadlock, but hard enough to require manual intervention) by not doing a state change or something. Basically, all you've tried to achieve here is an additional unlock to avoid a deadlock when the called function itself needs to acquire the lock, performance aside, I'd really prefer if we're simply adding the unlock and go back to the "restart" approach. At least until someone either fixes the callers or can come up with a safe enough solution. The old 2100 card in a Thinkpad T42 needed a firmware update to be able to handle WPA. That firmware was hidden in a Windows driver update. Maybe this is a similar problem. So, something is holding the comlock when the node table lock is being grabbed. Where is that happening? Would someone like to tackle that particular issue? Eg, what about printing out a witness backtrace if the comlock is held when the node table lock is held? And vice versa? Just to try and figure out who is holding things incorrectly?
