You're going to wait a whole 11 months? :-) In any case, I'm also toying around with arm builds, and of course arm needs yet another special case added. Would you object if I wanted to fix that and then test these patches on an -exp run on amd64? They're just intrusive enough to make me nervous about the tier-1 machines. mcl From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jul 15 05:10:08 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7B1041065674; Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:10:08 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4AB048FC0A; Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:10:08 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id q6F5A8AI026552; Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:10:08 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5/Submit) id q6F5A8Kg026551; Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:10:08 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:10:08 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <201207150510.q6F5A8Kg026551@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-ports-bugs@FreeBSD.org Resent-Cc: marius@FreeBSD.org, kwm@FreeBSD.org, x11@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Mark Linimon Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4B8A61065675 for ; Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:01:23 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 348C58FC22 for ; Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:01:23 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5) with ESMTP id q6F51NsB025851 for ; Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:01:23 GMT (envelope-from linimon@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.5/8.14.5/Submit) id q6F51NFX025850; Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:01:23 GMT (envelope-from linimon) Message-Id: <201207150501.q6F51NFX025850@freefall.freebsd.org> Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:01:23 GMT From: Mark Linimon To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.113 X-GNATS-Notify: marius@FreeBSD.org,kwm@FreeBSD.org,x11@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: ports/169874: [patch] fix graphics/dri, graphics/libGL, graphics/libdrm on tier-2 archs X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Mark Linimon List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2012 05:10:08 -0000 >Number: 169874 >Category: ports >Synopsis: [patch] fix graphics/dri, graphics/libGL, graphics/libdrm on tier-2 archs >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-ports-bugs >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: sw-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sun Jul 15 05:10:07 UTC 2012 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Mark Linimon >Release: FreeBSD 9.0-STABLE i386 >Organization: FreeBSD >Environment: System: FreeBSD freefall.freebsd.org 9.0-STABLE FreeBSD 9.0-STABLE #6 r235139: Tue May 8 21:19:03 UTC 2012 simon@freefall.freebsd.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/FREEFALL i386 >Description: libGL and friends have become broken on the various tier-2 architectures since the latest X11 update. marius@ worked up a patch to try to fix up sparc64 (and possibly powerpc). However, I had already noticed a failure on arm in one of my test builds, for the same reason. I am going to test the below patch on pointyhat-west/amd64 to make sure there are no regressions. I would appreciate other testers. While based on marius' patch, this removes some code that is getting hard to read and replaces it with some code that is, if not perfect, at least more obvious to understand. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: How can I know if LEN0068 is the right string for my laptop? sysctl dev.acpi_ibm.0 If it produces a list of values, the module is operating. If not, something is wrong. dev.acpi_ibm.0.lcd_brightness SHOULD now work (with the patched DSDT installed). dev.acpi_ibm.0.volume will not work, but he mixer should, so you can set the volume buttons to use mixer(1) to adjust the volume dev.acpi_ibm.0.mute works for me dev.acpi_ibm.0.thinklight works for me dev.acpi_ibm.0.fan_speed is valid dev.acpi_ibm.0.fan_level seems to do nothing -- R. IT has been running for a few months with the Intel GPU patches and now WITH_NEW_XORG and WITH_KMS. The current system is 9.1-BETA1 installed yesterday. If I enable "Virtualization" in BIOS, the system boots and runs fine, but if I start Xorg and Gnome, I get several windows including terminal windows and gkrellm up, but after a few seconds, the display freezes. The only thing I have been able to do is to power it down. I then disabled "Virtualization again, and all is well. Any idea on what other information I can dig up? It's not critical as I only use VirtualBox to boot Windows 7 when I need Visio or something else that is only available on Windows.(No, no serial console. Darn!) -- R. In it I am trying to look at dri/libGL/libdrm on all the tier-2 archs, not just powerpc. I have built on patches initially developed and tested by marius@. See what you think about these two ideas: - I believe the patch in 169874 for libdrm is more general than the one in this PR. Do you agree? - There is a patch in that PR for src/mesa/drivers/dri/radeon/radeon_span.c. With that, is your patch for libGL still necessary? SandyBridges has several absolutely show-stopper erratas for interoperation of VT-d engine and GPU. Linux disables several features, including RC6 and fake PPGT, when it detects that VT-d is active for GPU PCI device. And even then, it seems to still exhibit problems, last time I watched. Since FreeBSD has no VT-d driver, we cannot know the state of VT-d. Just disable it if you want to use GPU. --PuGuTyElPB9bOcsM Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (FreeBSD) iEYEARECAAYFAlAEH4QACgkQC3+MBN1Mb4j9xQCgypNWJLwGCNY2MRbRgg+k6443 NnYAn3gs/ME9x2TFA/vHaYS6X+JOKQ5B =f3DU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --PuGuTyElPB9bOcsM-- From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 16 16:42:50 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F0202106564A for ; Mon, 16 Jul 2012 16:42:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from kob6558@gmail.com) Received: from mail-wg0-f50.google.com (mail-wg0-f50.google.com [74.125.82.50]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7B5438FC12 for ; Mon, 16 Jul 2012 16:42:50 +0000 (UTC) Received: by wgbds11 with SMTP id ds11so3055098wgb.31 for ; Mon, 16 Jul 2012 09:42:48 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=Uxxof5/06iaVtIZygt+2vKW3iWTTCblxP6Dva7CEPNc=; b=MGcqQTA5xbJzY6d9Ef/C4BHAWWuI2WoAORmRJXpCMfi4SsmpVd3xiAf9qJ7DLD+zQU DT+NsaBdVtkleTpDev1l0rPCqBQtdL500qWsUxzlxfqyg/OQqHjkn17nTqsAmR2FuHFS miGAWKAbBbMSd5coet6TSsZmMdO/r8gGvsRogYDkJiOlQH8H5zVEI0fjYvMC7sPK0sc7 +fsl0kKtr/sR80XRfPTg7lWsnMBHvyej0j61+4Pw1aQbelCRBQLRHCVU8TDwpfipXP72 kYCUPBKmkSnpG72/oIhpMhObUBE7TZsPkd6yQt3u74LLHLypWkVFZtKfTdIW/YYilrvI rweQ== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.216.196.218 with SMTP id r68mr5485754wen.122.1342456968683; Mon, 16 Jul 2012 09:42:48 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.223.88.217 with HTTP; Mon, 16 Jul 2012 09:42:48 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: <20120716140452.GC2676@deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua> References: <20120716140452.GC2676@deviant.kiev.zoral.com.ua> Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2012 09:42:48 -0700 Message-ID: From: Kevin Oberman To: Konstantin Belousov Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Intel GPU with KMS locks up when visualization enabled X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2012 16:42:51 -0000 On Mon, Jul 16, 2012 at 7:04 AM, Konstantin Belousov wrote: > On Sun, Jul 15, 2012 at 04:09:18PM -0700, Kevin Oberman wrote: >> I don't have much information on this, but I wanted to enable VY-x on >> my Lenovo T520 (Sandybridge). By the way, I see this when I enable "Virtualization" on the system even though VT-d is disabled. I'll admit I don't know exactly what the BIOS "Virtualization" actually enables, but it is a separate option from VT-d. -- R. Some times ago, I tested BSD 9 and all KMS related stuff on a Sandy Bridge chip (HD Graphics) to evaluate performance. everything was fine and glxgears obtained 75 fps, as the monitor refresh rate. I used glxspheres also and everything was fine. I have now a Ivy Bridge chip (HD Graphics 2500). I updated FreeBSD 9 sources to handle Ivy Bridge chips and ran again glxgears: surprise! glxgears cannot run more then 45~48 fps. glxspheres run at 3~4 fps. The suspect is that hw acceleration is not active here. glxinfo tell me: OpenGL render string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2 OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.3 So I guess all libraries are correctly installed and the chip is correctly recognized. But in Xorg.0.log I can read this two lines: (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized swrast (II) GLX: Initialized DRISWRAST GL provider for screen 0 Are they correct or that means that Hw acceleration is off? What am I doing wrong? How could I check if rendering is hardware accelerated? Thanks in advance for your precious help! Best regards, Luca FYI I'm also testing intel DDX 2.20, I'd like to try sna acceleration (--enable-sna in configure_args added), but configuring sna as AccelMethod it failed to start. With uxa AccelMethod everything is as usual (poor performance also) From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jul 19 20:17:36 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3CDC31065673 for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2012 20:17:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mrsanna@ownmail.net) Received: from bizpsie3.9services.com (bizpsie3.9services.com [84.96.93.161]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 930B18FC17 for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2012 20:17:35 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mailserv1.bastide-medical.fr ([86.64.47.58]) by bizpsie3.9services.com with 9services id cLGY1j0031FKKmW04LHZCr; Thu, 19 Jul 2012 22:17:33 +0200 X-VRSPAM-SCORE: 250.00 Received: from ownmail.net (unknown [212.42.185.249]) by mailserv1.bastide-medical.fr (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4200C871629 for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2012 21:55:48 +0200 (CEST) From: Mrs. Anna Hartzell To: x11@FreeBSD.org Date: 19 Jul 2012 20:55:21 +0100 Message-ID: <20120719205521.AA34D88E13801EFA@ownmail.net> Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: Subject: [Spam Probable]Greetings To You X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: mrshartzell@btinternet.com List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2012 20:17:36 -0000 Dear Beloved, My name is Anna Hartzell, a 65 years old US citizen woman with a multiracia= l heritage of Black/German born in Jan. 1947, suffering from a long time ca= ncer of the breast, I am a missionary and I have decided to Willing/Donate = the sum of $5.5 Million (Five Million, Five hundred thousand Dollars) to ch= arity and individual through you for the good work of the lord, and to help= the motherless, less privileged and also for the assistance of the widows.= Can you help me to receive the money? Hello, WITH_KMS="YES" should only be set for intel graphics cards. There is currently no support for radeon or nvidia KMS. Try removing this from /etc/make.conf and rebuilding xf86-* ports. I believe that the following ports also need to be rebuilt: libGL libGLU libGLw libgltext freeglut mesa-demos libdrm dri dri2proto xdriinfo xf86driproto Archibald
