Do not attempt to load i915kms.ko. Do not attempt to load drm2.ko. For the past months the drivers have been fixed to automatically load all needed drivers and kernel modules when Xorg is started. My Sandybridge behaves just like your system if I try to manually load i915kms.ko. Screen goes black and that is the end. Oh, and you didn't mention libdrm. It should be built with WITH_KMS, too. -- R. For the past months the > > drivers have been fixed to automatically load all needed drivers and > > kernel modules when Xorg is started. My Sandybridge behaves just like > > How do the wrong modules get loaded? Thanks for all the help guys. The problem was the result of my own stupidity. I went through some code trying to find out why the wrong modules were loaded, and I discovered that I previously commented out this line in x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel/Makefile: EXTRA_PATCHES+= ${PATCHDIR}/extra-i915kms This patch is for -CURRENT since the name of the module changed when kib@ imported the code to -CURRENT: - intel->drmSubFD = drmOpen("i915", busid); + intel->drmSubFD = drmOpen("i915kms", busid); Since I built -CURRENT from around 3 months ago and an up-to-date ports tree, I had to remove this patch to make it work. So it fell apart when I tried to upgrade to the lastest -CURRENT... Apparently portsnap doesn't overwrite local modifications to the ports tree unless there are updates (unlike csup), so the patch wasn't included until I discovered my mistake. Next time I'll keep a list of local changes for my ports tree, so I don't shoot myself in the foot again. Sorry for the noise. -- Denny Lin From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jul 29 08:21:03 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A0E39106564A; Sun, 29 Jul 2012 08:21:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from erichfreebsdlist@ovitrap.com) Received: from alogreentechnologies.com (alogreentechnologies.com [67.212.224.110]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4AD928FC12; Sun, 29 Jul 2012 08:21:03 +0000 (UTC) Received: from AMD620.ovitrap.com ([49.128.188.2]) (authenticated bits=0) by alogreentechnologies.com (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id q6T8Kq0Y006763; Sun, 29 Jul 2012 02:20:57 -0600 Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2012 15:23:24 +0700 From: Erich Dollansky To: Denny Lin Message-ID: <20120729152324.5896ca0b@AMD620.ovitrap.com> In-Reply-To: <20120729072136.GA23082@mail.hs.ntnu.edu.tw> References: <20120729015350.GH72464@mail.hs.ntnu.edu.tw> <20120729105954.7de47bbf@AMD620.ovitrap.com> <20120729042013.GA22960@mail.hs.ntnu.edu.tw> <20120729121201.5ca6db2e@AMD620.ovitrap.com> <20120729072136.GA23082@mail.hs.ntnu.edu.tw> X-Mailer: Claws Mail 3.8.0 (GTK+ 2.24.6; amd64-portbld-freebsd10.0) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org, freebsd-current@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Unable to load i915kms X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2012 08:21:03 -0000 Hi, On Sun, 29 Jul 2012 15:21:36 +0800 Denny Lin wrote: > > How do the wrong modules get loaded? > > Thanks for all the help guys. I however experience some problems with X and nVidia driver after suspend-resume-cycle. Symptoms are that after a resume I pretty regularly get a 2 second freeze of the display. I also get a errors in mplayer with vpdau. They are of two types: 1. Complete hang of X. Can be mitigated by ssh to the machine and pkill -9 mplayer. 2. [vdpau] Display preemption detected [vdpau] Error when calling vdp_video_surface_put_bits_y_cb_cr: The display was pre-empted, or a fatal error occurred. [vdpau] Attempting to recover from preemption. [vdpau] Error when calling vdp_video_mixer_render: An invalid handle value was provided. [vdpau] Recovered from display preemption. and accompanied by 1 or 2 seconds rendering stall. This is on 9-stable r238754, nvidia-driver-304.22 ( I need the xrandr support ;) ), make.conf has WITH_NEW_XORG=YES and WITH_KMS=YES. Has anyone experienced this? I'd rather not recompile without KMS, as this is setup as a zfs-root which is shared between different machines. I might however give it a try, if time permits. I'm evaluating 3D performance of IvyBridge [C|G]PU (HD2500) on FreeBSD 9-1BETA using i386 as architecture.. The kernel driver works good (thanks Konstantin for the fix). In order to use the last driver capabilities, I'm using xorg-dev trunk: https://trillian.chruetertee.ch/svn/ports/trunk I had a strange configuration issue: AIGLX was disabled by default and DRISWRASTER was used. Enabling AIGLX manually in xorg.conf, the right i965 DRI2 GL is used. Not a big deal, but... with DRSWRASTER, glxgears performs about 45 fps with i965 DRI2 GL, glxgears still performs about 45 fps. It looks like that the hardware acceleration is somewhere not used. My xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log are attached. I'd happy to provide more information. Help and hints are greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance Best regards Luca --------------060001030708070303040504 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; name="xorg.conf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="xorg.conf" Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" ModulePath "/usr/local/lib/xorg/modules" FontPath "${prefix}/share/fonts/X11/misc/" FontPath "${prefix}/share/fonts/X11/TTF/" FontPath "${prefix}/share/fonts/X11/OTF/" FontPath "${prefix}/share/fonts/X11/Type1/" FontPath "${prefix}/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/" FontPath "${prefix}/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/" EndSection Section "Module" Load "extmod" Load "record" Load "dbe" Load "glx" Load "dri" Load "dri2" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "AutoEnableDevices" "False" Option "AIGLX" "True" Option "DRI2" "True" #Option "GLxVisuals" "all" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbLayout" "de" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/sysmouse" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName "Monitor Model" EndSection Section "Device" ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: : integer, : float, : "True"/"False", ### : "String", : " Hz/kHz/MHz", ### : "%" ### [arg]: arg optional #Option "DRI" # [] #Option "ColorKey" # #Option "VideoKey" # #Option "FallbackDebug" # [] #Option "Tiling" # [] #Option "LinearFramebuffer" # [] #Option "Shadow" # [] #Option "SwapbuffersWait" # [] #Option "TripleBuffer" # [] #Option "XvPreferOverlay" # [] #Option "DebugFlushBatches" # [] #Option "DebugFlushCaches" # [] #Option "DebugWait" # [] #Option "HotPlug" # [] #Option "RelaxedFencing" # [] #Option "AccelMethod" "sna" Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" #Option "NoAccel" "False" Identifier "Card0" Driver "intel" #Option "FallbackDebug" #BusID "PCI:0:2:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 1 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 4 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 8 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 15 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection --------------060001030708070303040504 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; name="Xorg.0.log" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="Xorg.0.log" [ 41.889] X.Org X Server 1.12.3 Release Date: 2012-07-09 [ 41.889] X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 [ 41.889] Build Operating System: FreeBSD 9.1-PRERELEASE i386 [ 41.889] Current Operating System: FreeBSD pc177 9.1-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 9.1-PRERELEASE #7: Mon Jul 16 13:11:59 CEST 2012 root@pc177:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 [ 41.889] Build Date: 02 August 2012 05:02:27PM [ 41.889] [ 41.889] Current version of pixman: 0.26.2 [ 41.889] Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version.
