In May 2013 I did realize that there is an ongoing outage of the server which runs the last (ftp|cvsup)*.ch.freebsd.org mirror left in Switzerland. I did notify / ask the server operator (SolNet). In response I got the information, that they have a hardware failure and it should be back online soon. As one day later the server was still down, I changed the CNAMEs to ftp2.de.freebsd.org and cvsup.de.freebsd.org. I did notify SolNet and asked to be informed when their mirror is back online and up-to-date, so I can change DNS back from this temporary solution. Then I had forgotten about this until last week. I did check and their ftp server was running, but the FreeBSD mirror is out of sync (e.g. 9.2-RELEASE is missing) and cvsupd is not running. Today I asked SolNet about the status. In response I learned, that they not only had a hardware failure (RAID controller), but also had a failure with ZFS on this system and the debugging with Pavel took longer. When they had the system up and running again, access to the ftp/cvsup master (and/or ftp-master.eu) had been denied. They have been told, that after 3 weeks offline they are out as a mirror and the FreeBSD Project will run their own CDN (this is known to me, as it also had been mention here on other occasions). So how should I as operator of the ch.freebsd.org DNS zone proceed? I would like to change back from this temporary CNAMEs to a permanent solution and also to servers in Switzerland. What is the status of the planned FreeBSD CDN? Will there be a server for ftp/cvsup in Switzerland? How about the time frame? Or is it possible to re-enable access to ftp and cvsup master from 212.101.4.244 (ftp.freebsd.solnet.ch + cvsup.freebsd.solnet.ch) again? bye Fabian
