The > pvr250 port is marked as broken. > You're in luck! I just recompiled pvr250 for FreeBSD 10 yesterday so I can help you. (I have a CX23416-based PCI-card). First, comment out or delete the line starting "BROKEN" in the port's Makefile. Next you will need to source a decoder firmware file called "hcwPVRP2.sys" (case is important). There should be one of the driver CD with your card but they are easily enough to obtain on the web. If you get really stuck on that then email me. This file needs to be placed in /usr/ports/distfiles/ Start building the port with: make -DNO_CHECKSUM It will probably fail on a line in cxm.c like this: /usr/ports/multimedia/pvr250/work/modules/cxm/cxm/../../../dev/cxm/cxm.c:1397:3: error: implicit declaration of function 'psignal' is invalid in C99 [-Werror,-Wimplicit-function-declaration] psignal (sc->enc_proc, sc->enc_signal); Change line 1397 of said file so it reads: kern_psignal (sc->enc_proc, sc->enc_signal); Continue build with another: make -DNO_CHECKSUM Port should build successfully. Follow with usual "make install". To use the port you need to load the cxm driver with "kldload cxm" and use "pvr250-setchannel" to select input, etc. After that I mostly only do "cat /dev/cxm0 > something.mpg" Hope this helps, Dominic From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Aug 3 13:39:25 2014 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ADH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 8F144738 for ; Sun, 3 Aug 2014 13:39:25 +0000 (UTC) Received: from Phideaux.RawFedDogs.net (Phideaux.RawFedDogs.net [64.251.15.37]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "phideaux.rawfeddogs.net", Issuer "StartCom Class 1 Primary Intermediate Server CA" (not verified)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4E07F2FA6 for ; Sun, 3 Aug 2014 13:39:25 +0000 (UTC) Received: from Blaidd-Drwg.RawFedDogs.net (cpe-70-120-203-94.hot.res.rr.com [70.120.203.94]) (authenticated bits=0) by Phideaux.RawFedDogs.net (8.14.9/8.14.7) with ESMTP id s73DdA8q080729 for ; Sun, 3 Aug 2014 08:39:10 -0500 (CDT) (envelope-from Kevin@RawFedDogs.net) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/simple; d=rawfeddogs.net; s=x; t=1407073150; bh=b8qbaFThBhEG0cUdY6fKnDOtnAx6jXqPHBHZ6rSHTlk=; h=Date:From:To:Subject:Reply-To:References:In-Reply-To; b=CYfjf2UH0kUxmEAk5JcVDx+MxxNIFCkJOJ8Py9/1b6dHxaFjwVVVOBXgwExX1wTzC XjFqVMdqJOy2Kn5Y9BRb9CbjBFFuiyg2+fMEt2K/OHBgaEZtndlLHEUhhTRyCSqfxR KMhg3S1ug2aM0eS4fYM+JsFq/s4+Tt8N9ADjBZBQ= Received: from RawFedDogs.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by Blaidd-Drwg.RawFedDogs.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3A2092165AF2 for ; Sun, 3 Aug 2014 08:39:17 -0500 (CDT) Date: Sun, 3 Aug 2014 08:39:17 -0500 From: Kevin Monceaux To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: PVR-250 with FreeBSD 10.0? I was able to build and install the port successfully. But, when issuing a "kldload cxm" it loads the module, but I get: device_attach: cxm0 attach returned 6 and /dev/cxm0 isn't created. Could that be a problem with the hcwPVRP2.sys file I found? Or perhaps my card is bad. The last PC I used it in died after a power failure so it's certainly possible that the card was damaged too. -- Kevin http://www.RawFedDogs.net http://Lassie.RawFedDogs.net http://www.WacoAgilityGroup.org Bruceville, TX What's the definition of a legacy system? Considering its age maybe I should retire it and upgrade. Does anyone have any recommendations for an inexpensive FreeBSD friendly video capture card or USB video capture device? The sound devices seem to be detected just fine (the nvidia-X11 driver doesn't seem to work, but that's another issue). I'm having some issues with the sound system that seem to originate from userland. I'm running Enlightenment 17 as the window manager. It does not seem to detect the sound card at all (its volume control shows no devices). Firefox, on the other hand (currently configured to use pulseaudio), seems to have its sound work just fine, or at least the flash plugin does (I can watch youtube videos with sound just fine). I tried playing around with pulseaudio, jack, alsalib, and friends a while back. It seems that alsalib is failing to detect the sound card for some reason. I'm not that familiar with the lower-level sound architecture, so I'm not sure what the problem could be (it might be something very simple). Can anyone give me pointers on where to start? Ideally, I'd like to set up some kind of system-wide sound process, but that's a purely optional goal (jack seems to be able to do this, but not all applications can use it; pulseaudio seems to lose a number of capabilities when configured this way). Has anyone done something similar, and if so, what were your experiences? A few weeks back I posted a message that basically summed up to what you describe here. alsalib doesn't detect my sound device, so e.g. audacity won't work. Browsers, mplayer, etc work fine. I'm steadily working to the point where I can dive into this deep enough to figure out the problem but I'm not there yet. Maybe next week. Well, it took me most of the day to figure out how to build the needed ivtv kernel module. Ah, Linux's lovely kernel menuconfig. For reasons I have yet to understand I had to enable a remote control module to get the ivtv module to show up under the appropriate menu. After building and loading the ivtv module the card appears to be working under Linux. Aside from the kernel module configuration I didn't have to jump through any hoops or search online for firmware to get it working. I'm working remotely via ssh right now so I can't be sure until I get home, but I was able to select the S-Video input and capture a short test video, which is presumably blank since nothing is connected to the S-Video input at the moment. But at least ffmpeg reports the test file as: [mpeg @ 0x652a80] max_analyze_duration 5000000 reached at 5005000 microseconds Input #0, mpeg, from 'test.mpg': Duration: 00:00:18.13, start: 0.289867, bitrate: 6593 kb/s Stream #0:0[0x1e0]: Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p, 720x480 [SAR 8:9 DAR 4:3], 29.97 fps, 29.97 tbr, 90k tbn, 59.94 tbc Stream #0:1[0x1c0]: Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16p, 224 kb/s so it looks like the card is working. -- Kevin http://www.RawFedDogs.net http://Lassie.RawFedDogs.net http://www.WacoAgilityGroup.org Bruceville, TX What's the definition of a legacy system? In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 7.x/8.x/9.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: multimedia/y4mscaler broken because: Conflicts with mjpegtools on /usr/local/bin/y4mscaler build errors: http://beefy2.isc.freebsd.org/bulk/93amd64-RELENG_9_3/latest/logs/errors/y4mscaler-9.0_8.log overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=y4mscaler If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD.
