For clarification, I do not mean public for general use, I mean having the package set installable for general testing of ABI backwards-compatibility. In other words, the packages built for this case should *not* be signed and published with the production sets. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. The official upstream FreeBSD package builders *always* build packages from the last supported release on the branch (10.1-RELEASE, in this case) for all supported architectures for which we provide upstream packages. Packages built on 10.1-RELEASE *must* continue to run on 10.2-RELEASE, otherwise we have broken ABI compatibility, and this is unacceptible on a stable branch. Speculation that they will run is insufficient. We are in a release cycle now. Verification is the only proof that is acceptable at this point. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. I noticed that libthr.so.3 was not updated when I upgraded from 10.1 to 10.2 (it was still dated 2014-10-10). I replaced it with the version from the distribution tarball and kmk now seems to work. Whether the resulting package works remains to be seen... R. Wright --- This bug was added before I had a chance to finish. The issue is that with version 4.3.26, using this xorg.conf worked and created a display with the resolution that was requested: Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Modes "1913x1033" "1280x1024" Depth 24 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 1 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 4 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 8 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 15 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 EndSubSection EndSection This stopped working with version 4.3.28, and still does not work in 4.3.30; the created display resolution is much smaller than the 1913x1033 indicated in xorg.conf; downgrading back to 4.3.26 restored the expected functionality -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. I can't speak for the FreeBSD VBox maintainers, but in general FreeBSD ports try to put major versions into a new port (e.g. emulators/virtualbox-ose5 or similar) so that people are not forced to upgrade and possibly break working configurations, and allow a transition period. I would expect that unless by some miracle the kernel module works for both VBox 4.3.x and 5.0.x, you may not be able to have both versions installed on the same system at the same time. Except noticing possible improvements on responsiveness, speed, etc... Well, maybe there could incompatibilities if the VM has guestadditions 4.3.28/30 installed and is running on a 5.0 environment, although I believe this shouldn't happen. Other than the above, the only thing that comes to mind is if the .vdi disk layout has changed so much that would make HD images produced in one version incompatible with the other. I hardly doubt that. So, assuming VBox 5.0 is stable and bug-free, what would be the reason to keep both 4.3.28/30 and 5.0 installed? -- Mario Lobo http://www.mallavoodoo.com.br FreeBSD since 2.2.8 [not Pro-Audio....
