I am sorry, but I reject the notion, that in order to be able to install a minor perl-module, I must upgrade my entire system first. Rebuilding perl5 would, for example, also require me to rebuild my KDE3 install -- for which there is no substitute in the ports-tree either (KDE4, infamously, is not such a thing). It is perfectly fine for FreeBSD to no longer provide the perl5.10 port, but it should still handle existing installs, where the old version is still present. Meanwhile, setting the following variables in make.conf helps me overcome the problem: SITE_PERL_REL= lib/perl5/site_perl/${PERL_VERSION} SITE_MAN3_REL= lib/perl5/${PERL_VERSION}/man/man3 SITE_ARCH_REL= ${SITE_PERL_REL}/${PERL_ARCH} The settings should, probably, be placed into Uses/perl5.mk -- conditional on the PERL_VERSION (or a related knob). But I am not sure, what exactly the conditions should be -- fixing things for 5.10-users, we should also check, where the 5.14 and 5.16 installed their bits... Another problem, that remains is the compression of man-pages -- the pkg-plist files of various p5-* ports list them with .gz suffixes, but the pages aren't actually compressed here... I added the following to my make.conf as a work-around: .if ${.CURDIR:T:Mp5-*} != "" post-install: -gzip -9 ${STAGEDIR}/${SITE_MAN3}/*.3 .endif but that's not a reliable solution. I am not sure, what to do about these -- I thought, pkg would handle (un)compressed man-pages automatically... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. We do not support partial upgrades, never had, never will. If you need to do something Perl related with a non supported, outdated, expired version, upgrade your ports tree to before r373448. Anything at or after that commit, you *will* need a Perl version >= 5.14.4_8, 5.16.3_12, 5.18.4_5, 5.20.1_4. Though, skipping up to 5.14.4_14, 5.16.3_18, 5.18.4_11, 5.20.1_10 would be a way better idea. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. Also, the MANDIRS settings was independent from the SITE_MAN-setting -- this caused my confused with man-pages described in Comment #4. This is upstreams first conversion to use Module::Build. Previously, in Makefile.PL there was configure code to check for what options to define in compiling Interface.xs... None of that exists in the current Build.pl method. So, without -DUSE_GETIFADDRS and -DHAVE_SOCKADDR_DL_STRUCT it doesn't use the getifaddrs(3) interface and attempts to use ioctl method that results in the "Illegal Seek" error. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 7.x/8.x/9.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: graphics/p5-Geo-KML broken because: Upstream disabled support for textproc/p5-XML-Compile > 1.43 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=graphics&portname=p5-Geo-KML portname: mail/p5-MIME-Fast broken because: Does not build with Perl 5.18 or above build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=mail&portname=p5-MIME-Fast If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below.
