I also added my chipset id to pciids, i915 and agp. The merged/updated patch can be found here: http://blog.grem.de/bits/haswellgfx_20150106.patch I tested on amd64 on an Acer C720 Chromebook, tests were done using drm.debug=2. pciconf -lv vgapci0@pci0:0:2:0: class=0x030000 card=0x0a111025 chip=0x0a068086 rev=0x09 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller' class = display subclass = VGA After loading the i915kms the screen goes blank, this is due to not detecting the LCD panel. If I connect a screen to HDMI out, the output is actually shown on the laptop's panel. It comes up in the wrong resolution, but can be corrected using xrandr (I had various results, but at some point after booting with HDMI connected I got the panel's physical resolution). Obviously vt is still garbled. I had some artefacts after starting X, those went away after launching Chrome (which got stuck for a few seconds after launch, then caused an error message on the console). After that I could play full screen video just fine. Hot-plug support seems to work in general. Trying to suspend the machine using acpiconf didn' work: [drm:KMS:pid11280:i915_suspend] starting suspend drmn0: GEM idle failed, resume might fail acpi0: device_suspend failed Power management doesn't work (the machine is running pretty hot), consumption is much higher than would you would normally see on this laptop: [root@flimsy /usr/src/sys/dev]# acpiconf -i batt Design capacity: 4030 mAh Last full capacity: 3877 mAh ... I agree that kbdmux(4) and moused(8) are a pain from the point of view of the X.Org server. One nice advantage of the devd backend is that I can turn on/off kbdmux(4) or moused(8) without having to migrate the keyboard layout configuration for instance. Also, I can copy the xorg.conf chunk from computer to computer. I admit these are rare use cases. But I don't think the backend add much complexity. And it makes the X.Org server to behave more like on Linux. Input device handling on FreeBSD is quite basic and we have a lot of work in this area to modernize it. The evdev GSoC (which will hit HEAD I hope) is one step in this direction. We could also improve vt(4) to handle multiple keyboards. --=20 Jean-S=E9bastien P=E9dron --bIPxwDKrgObCseusVqxt3x682ut8qdjgS Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iQJ8BAEBCgBmBQJUsCQaXxSAAAAAAC4AKGlzc3Vlci1mcHJAbm90YXRpb25zLm9w ZW5wZ3AuZmlmdGhob3JzZW1hbi5uZXQ2NzA4N0ZEMUFFQUUwRTEyREJDNkE2RjAz OUU5OTc2MUE1RkQ5NENDAAoJEDnpl2Gl/ZTMo4cP/1zc+t2tWZvj7HYeTqWyEOax pFRIwkejKdxr4J1tFGwnPCjW3Kw7LAdZa3w4SAFm9KeXEgSdI7KPP90rTVtYHKk1 +jzlfzoRFncG85vEkhwu3VGB5MRyI1upC0STxEhzu00upaNu+A+elWleAf8jZneN T/M3Nx+beWEwzRr9YxfDN1ASsVA49CZqEHjNUSV2laVdEyRLs0lOuA63emEiTcn9 iK9EkWBb/nB/c59LUmAadwv1wY7HKT6CNCuhDmrdT/7nuxEZWHofXGi1qR715068 rfG8KBieG4Vz/css8CUlfGPMEaFTLXQOtlmXpE2OCtBSBEMpkCEQrfKs1MUoe7xb 1DLOqg7GwTYVh+he9LEPTWerXddeORoJHBKeQ4VzOjCij3MR17hYDNPVO8pnzAHn XGwdZGxDsefQ8Zgk+gO+YJsTiQH0d8kWrhE4YGtpx4GDyPLcAtFSs54H/tt8mUkt quSwRoZU8eVfaPPgpYX6ig+Xj36/jXrHkCp968dKlt18W0vgsrwKNAOZ2vPSzskb TALOftr5fe8FT85FoKBs2DcNHC4gZLEQXbi+BKacXh4TQaW1vtbrrMlzxnYkj4z+ /NoqZf23DkSou1O5Dfw0jnumu9MzIeuZMAk/fCKFVXgAU8Kdk2CgR3qn10Efk31R P+iTzPGzZEAX9uvH9voB =f6wc -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --bIPxwDKrgObCseusVqxt3x682ut8qdjgS-- From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jan 9 18:57:30 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher AECDH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 3B1AB340 for ; Fri, 9 Jan 2015 18:57:30 +0000 (UTC) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 21E9DDCD for ; Fri, 9 Jan 2015 18:57:30 +0000 (UTC) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.14.9/8.14.9) with ESMTP id t09IvUN1082270 for ; Fri, 9 Jan 2015 18:57:30 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: x11@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 196171] pkg install x11/xorg:10:i386/latest/All/xorg-server-1.12.4_9,1.txz: Not Found Date: Fri, 09 Jan 2015 18:57:30 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: dumbbell@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: In Progress X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: x11@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Target-Milestone: --- X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback? After some time of using X, I'm missing Event type 5 on button 1 (ButtonRelease) thus, touchpad as well as both left buttons (Thinkpad) are unusable. Problem ceases after killing X or switching to system console and back and forth. Unfortunately, the nuisance started after upgrading to 1.16, however rolling back nor recompiling solved anything, and 1.14 is currently similar for me...
